hahahah thought it said 21 cans of Asahi

    Stupid me

  • Awesome, are these made in Japan? Cheers

    • probably not - thailand most likely.

      • +6

The ones at Dan Murphy were imported from Japan.

    • +1

The 2lt cans are official japanese brew.

No doubt it's from the same batch as the $9 ones at Dans, so best before is end of Feb 2014.

Great deal though, i have 4 cans and want to get a few more before they're all gone.

      • Dayum thanks for the heads up, probably won't be able to crack it open this month :(.

        • +1

beer lasts for years past expiry date

        • +1

Not the Asahi bottles I bought last time! Tasted funny after 3 months past expiry.

        • +5

Best before means its safe to consume but the taste may alter after the date specified… :)

        • I recently drank 2 year expired Sapporo 600mls bottles, didn't realize at the time. They tasted fine.

        • +16

beer lasts for years past expiry date

naturally brewed (bottle fermented like coopers) lasts and gets better for years.

artificially carbonated stuff like this often gets off flavours after a few months. specially when in "cans"

edit: coopers have a "best after" date on them for exactly this reason

        • +1

Makes sense really! Cheers for the good info.

        • +3

if i manage to find one - it wont see another day light

        • here here! cheeers!

Sticker on the side of the can says made in Japan

    • The 1, 2 and 3 litre cans are the proper Japanese product. The stubbies at BWS/Dan Murphys/1st Choice/etc are Thai or Chinese brewed.

  • I think these big ones are the Japan ones….there was a big discussion on it when a similar deal was posted at Dan's a few days ago.

  • +1

The equivalent of about 5 normal cans of beer. Not exactly practical either

    • +5

      Or 6 and a bit Asahi stubbies (6x330ml = 1980ml)

Very practical when sharing with friends.

    • +9

I like your name. I like how you are getting away with it as well since people don't understand :P

      • +1

        Also made in Japan!

      • +1

Thanks for making me google it at work :\ Lol

    • i drink these in a group.

    • +1

      immpractical? no way.
These things are so practical they sell them in vending machines!

Perfect for when you need two litres of beer on the run.

    • +14

It's only impractical if you drink like a girl.

Otherwise, you saved yourself four trips to the fridge.

      • Binge drinking on VD… right on… I can use the empty can to catch my tears for being forever alone :_(

        • +1

I remember a viz top tip

STUDENTS: Demonstrate your drinking prowess by stacking up all your empty cans on your window sill. This is a sure way to prove your manhood and have all the good looking birds beating a path to your door.

        • Good looking chicks before or after the beer? :)

        • Neither I suspect.

previously was made in Japan, but now made in thailand. None the less, it still tastes good!

    Is this for every store?

    • +1

Well previously its $22, now its $10. You get what you pay for, still brilliant for the price. You dont ask if its made in germany when youre only cheap enough to buy a mazda.

  • one cent cheaper at dam murphy on clearance:

  • Love the handle.

  • Brilliant Valentine's Day gift!

Just finished calling 8 stores to confirm availability. Not one has any! The last one I called in Brunswick told me that all BWS stock of this had an expiry date of Feb 1 and had been dumped. I'll neg the deal until someone confirms they can actually buy them somewhere.

    • Great investigation work TA.

      • +6

Ok, make that 12 stores now. The funny thing is, no-one has any idea that 'maybe' these were being sold for $10. From the post above, what evidence do we have it was actually purchased for $10??

        • Save money on your phone calls now and buy a 2L Cans of Asahi Super Dry for $10

        • Save money on your phone calls now and buy a 2L Cans of Asahi Super Dry for $10

Believe me, I want to! But where??

        • -6

Ask the OP. Or maybe get 2 slabs of VB for $70 here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/133553

        • +9

          get 2 slabs of VB

          /me shudders

        • I got 4x2L cans a couple of weeks ago @ DM's the 'Gabba (BNE). Tasted fine. There was plenty of cartons that day. $9 or $9.99 they were.
Also scored a repacked case of Becks for $27.

        • Just got two cans earlier today at BWS Keysborough. Best before does say 02/2014 though.

        • Someone got some in SA. Revoke ;)

        • Where in SA? It's a big state

        • Post the stores you called to save others calling/driving to them? :D

    • +1

      Nothing in St Leonards NSW.

    • Dans in Brighton Nepean Hwy has a few on the shelf if that helps you

  • I picked up some of the Dan Murphy ones the other week and was very disappointed with the taste which is nothing like the brew you get in Japan.
I assumed this may have been because of the expiry date being this month. It wasn't bad, certainly was drinkable. Just not what I was almost excited to crack open and taste :)

Could someone confirm the expiry date of the stock BWS are selling?

    • yup as i said above these tend to go off quite quickly. they also pick up a sorta metallic taste from the can. artificially brewed bottles/stainless kegs are a lot better, proper bottle fermented are much much better again.

      • +1

Apparently the metallic taste is from the aging process and not the can.
        See:
        http://www.professorbeer.com/articles/oxidative_staling_beer…
        and
        http://gizmodo.com/5928991/how-to-keep-beer-from-going-bad

Packaging. Clear glass is the worst at filtering UV light. Green glass is a little bit better. Brown and amber glass, however, do a very good job of filtering UV, though you still want to minimize exposure to sunlight. Cans are the best—virtually no light can get through them at all. A lot of great beers come in cans now, and no, they don't taste metallic. They taste as they would coming out of a keg (which is also skunk-proof).

        • fair enough. i assume it came from the cans caus it only happens in cans when they are left for a while. i seem to be quite sensitive to it so have always preferred bottles.

  • Any state if stocked?

  • +1

Just picked up two cans at 137/139 Henley Beach Rd,Mile End SA
Product of Japan, expiry on bottom stamped as 05/2014
Not advertised as on special, still had $22 price tag. There are two left.

    • +1

You got paid how much for them?

      • +1

I paid $10 each, so $20 for two cans

  • +12

This is not a nation-wide special, it is store specific and they are likely very limited in stock. Our store got a box of 6 of these in January, with a best before of February. We didn't manage to sell them all on special at $18, so we were forced to reduce them down before they went out of date to $10, after which they went out of stock quickly.

Basically no store should have any left by now, unfortunately. Well done to anyone who actually gets one, though. You must be lucky :P

    • +1

thanks for taking time to post dude.. :)

  • I managed to get 2 days out of my can before it started tasting flat.

  • +3

Aw… Missed out on the Dan Murphy ones… Looks like I missed out on these ones as well.

I wanted to get one for old time sake.

This was me in 2004 drinking a can in Awashima, Japan.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1p8tro834nfk3k6/DSCF0066.JPG

I tried to bring it back to Australia but it was just too big + I had too much other stuff to bring back (after living in Japan for 6 months).

Probably a good thing. I've already got way too much OzBargain stuff/junk around the house…

    • Someone looks happier than a pig in mud with their big boy beer!

  • Only two in stock at DM Orange, I grabbed one to try it out though

  • My local BWS sold out…

  • -2

If you want actual beer avoid this. This stuff is horrible in a can.

  • +4

2L cans - I like the idea. When the wife asks "How much had to drink?" I can say only 1 can (maybe 2)

  • +1

There was one box of 6 at BWS in Kilsyth, marked at $22 each, but scanning at $10. Now there are none. Perhaps try looking in a suburb where the majority of people don't drink anything but VB.

  • +1

none at The Glen or Burvale (VIC)

  • +2

gotta love living in a regional area sometimes - picked up 3 at Eaton WA 6232, about another 9 left. exp 5/14 and made in Japan as Deep purple said!

  • +1

Although technically not matching this deal because not from BWS, I have just returned from Dan's at Noarlunga, SA where they still had about a dozen cartons remaining @ $9.99/can.
    BB 02/2014

I saw these back online….Not a bargain for me since I got to ship them to Tassie..Still they seemed to have 3 in stock from the online shop which usually ships from Melbourne…So maybe try your luck with the online store if you want.
