  • Tried a number of postcodes in NSW, seems to be $15 shipping

  • I have this modem. The interface is very cumbersome to use and after 18 months it just started to reboot on it's own.

Hey EarthMan, do you have a v4?

As it is inexpensive, I purchased and set-up 3 of these for (cheapskate)family members when the TD-W8960Nv4 first hit the Aus market. All have run 24/7 in the Queensland heat, and I have not had one them whinging to me to coming over due to their "internet being broken". But your comment does have me a little concerned, but then again, we are talking about a $40 wireless modem/router.

Whilst I agree about the clunky interface, you can only rationally compare this modem/router to those in it's price range, and most would be pretty poor. And with its Broadcom chipset and 64MB RAM, does makes it rather hard to beat. But as always, you'll need to make compromises when purchasing in the low end of the market.

      • Have to check (if i still remember) when I get home. I replaced it with Netcomm NB16WV-02 which I am not entirely happy with either. Look, for that price range from MSY or whereever it is good as I bought it back then for approx $90.

        • I have a V3 and recently I too find that it is rebooting randomly for no apparent reason. Had it for 2 years already though…

IMHO, this is probably the best sub-$50 wireless modem/router one can purchase.

    • 64MB of RAM
    • Detachable antennas using reverse SMA connections
    • Broadcom chipset (for those, that don't live on top of an exchange)
    • Good venting

And before anyone whinges about the subsequent shipping costs, please consider that as VisionTech offer a zero fee pick-up option. Therefore, for locally based customers this is a bargain.

As I live in the Sunshine state, this is not a bargain for me. However, for those that live in the Greater Western Sydney area, it is.

Agreed. When I did my research last year, this was the best available for $49 at MSY. Other one was TD-W8968 for $60. Bought both for me and friends, both running fine close to an year. My friend configured it once and he never goes into the web-interface, so it's a non-issue. Sometimes we need to restart the device, generally evening peak hours, but I didn't find any other router more reliable at this price range.

$45 at msy. great modem with broadcom chipset

  • Need Gigabit router.

  • Can this be used as a bridged modem?

    • +1

Sure can. I believe it's the cheapest modem with broadcom chipset too. Very often recommended on whirlpool

  • +1

you can pick up this modem from MSY and several others as well at $45 straight away, rather then pay $15 for post and wait for few days, even free shipping you only save $5, not a bargain

    • +2

It is if you live in the country and the nearest MSY is 300 km away!

  • crap , they should have posted this a month ago, we got a Belkin instead for 99$

  • the $15 postage kills this deal for me. If it could be discounted atleast in NSW I would go for it

    Morning Everyone,

Thanks for all the orders so far and the instant Paypal payments. All the stock I had on hand sold pretty quickly. Don't worry another shipment of routers should be arriving this afternoon. For those who ordered and selected "Pay on Pick Up", i'll give you a call/email this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

    Cheers

    Jason

  • What's the hardware version of this TP Link TD-W8960N - v1 / v3 / v4 or /5?

I am in a block of units about 2.8km from the exchange.
    Line of Sight: 2083 m
    Estimated Cable: 2812 m
    Estimated Attenuation: 39
    Estimated Maximum Speed: 8666

Previously, a Netgear DGND3700v2 (Broadcom CM53115) modem router syned at ~11Mbps. 2 android mobiles & 2 laptops are connected via wireless. Gigabit connections preferred as a ps3 & 2 pc's are connected via cat6 cables for streaming HD movies.

Is the TP Link TD-W8960N a good idea or are there more suitable alternatives?
Is there a Billion or Broadcom chipset dual band wireless AC modem router?

  • Hi everyone.

Plenty of stock in store. Version is 5.1

    Edit:
Forgot to mention my new shipment of stock was also bundled with a few TD-W8950ND 150Mbps Wireless Lite N ADSL Modem Rotuers. Also ready for pick up in store for $29.99 if you don't need the 300Mbps version
