Melburnian’s love nothing more than enjoying the long, balmy nights of summer and what better way to do this than with a free outdoor cinema series set right on the water’s edge?

Presented by Destination Docklands and supported by the City of Melbourne and Mirvac, Movies Under the Stars at Yarra’s Edge is a new event series that will be held on Thursday 20 and 27 February, and Thursday 6 and 13 March on the lawn at Point Park, Yarra’s Edge, Docklands.

Guests are welcome to bring a picnic or have the option to take advantage of the pre-movie specials on offer from nearby restaurants. Movies will begin as the light fades at approximately 8.30pm.

“Everyone loves a night out at the movies. With this in mind we have collaborated with Mirvac to create an outdoor cinema event at Yarra’s Edge. People can enjoy a summer evening at the movies whilst taking in the stunning city backdrop at this waterfront Docklands sanctuary. Point Park is the perfect location to unwind under the stars, and the first 100 people to arrive on each night will receive a free bean bag to sit on whilst they take in the movie,” says Anita Donnelly, Destination Docklands CEO.

To make the most of its waterfront location, a free ferry service will run from Federation Square departing at 6.30pm, returning to Federation Square at the end of the movie.

“This is a fantastic collaboration with Destination Docklands and one that Mirvac is thrilled to be part of – we now have in excess of 1 500 residents residing at Yarra’s Edge so it’s important that we continue to give back to the community and offer an activity that residents and the wider Melbourne community can enjoy during the warm months,” says John Carfi, CEO of Residential, Mirvac.

Each week before the start of the feature film, movie-goers will be treated to a preview of work by upcoming Melburnian filmmakers who have been a part of the Made in Melbourne film festival.

Thursday 20 February – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Thursday 27 February – The Sapphires
Thursday 6 March – Finding Nemo
Thursday 13 March – The Great Gatsby

Everyone is welcome to enjoy this free event so grab your picnic rug, snacks, friends and family and enjoy a night under the stars at Yarra’s Edge.

Gold Coin donations will be collected throughout the series and will be donated to Kids Under Cover, an organisation that works to prevent youth homelessness by building homes and providing scholarships and mentors to at risk young people.

Site opens at 6.30pm, with a feature film at 8.30pm – Point Park, Point Park Crescent, Yarra’s Edge, Docklands.
