The 520 is a great buy, I think this is the lowest I have seen it apart from JB offering from last year.

  • naw. I'd get one if they had the Optus version.

go on the interwebs and unlock the phone.

      • +2

These phones are sold in two different WCDMA versions: 850/2100 or 900/2100

So unlocking a Telstra model is of no help.

        • Optus is mostly 2100mhz and 2G anyway

        • Not so if your traveling/live in rural/regional areas. Just saying.

  • HTC desire comes up as $203. Where are you seeing $99?

  • +3

Be careful with HTC desire - RAM 512 MB and battery 1650 mAH. Not enough to enjoy Android completely, but for $99 it is a good deal.

    • Agreed, surprised it hasn't got a 1gb ram in. I recently bought the moto g as a temporary phone, but might have considered this for $99.

Price match the Nokia 520at OW for a futher 5% off.

    • last time the 520 was $99 at JB (Telstra locked) there were people who price-matched at OW AND got the unlocked one. Worth a try.

  • Would have bought the HTC if it had 1GB RAM

    Good post though

  • Damn just bought the Huawei Ascend 600 from JB for $168….

My father broke his 520 two weeks ago (cracked screen), and this is almost the same price as getting it fixed (he decided to wait until a sale, and use a old backup phone). Looks like we'll be getting this now.

  • Anyone know if this would make a good MP3 Player (the Lumia) after my ipod broke. (with a 64gb microsd). Cant find any MP3 Players under 200 bucks.

    • +2

I reckon it would, plus the bonus is that you get a good camera aswell (along with FM radio if that's your thing).

    • And can do GPS too

  • which one is the better deal? Lumia 520 or the HTC desire?

    • htc is android os and lumia is windows os. your preferred os is your choice.

      • +2

Not necessarily, the Lumia is the clear winner here. A much better experience will be had compared to the Desire because of the fluidity of Windows Phone.

App selection sucks, but to browse the web, do some social networking, phone calls and SMS (has maps, too) - the 520 is the clear winner.

If you're wanting to give Windows Phone a try, it's a great deal.

Coming from an Android user. I would go the 520 even though it has 512mb ram it is still smooth as silk unlike android and it can be messy at times.

  • Great price for someone wanting to try the Windows phone OS for the first time. It really is a smooth, friendly system. The app store is severely lacking but if that doesn't bother you, go for it!

  • Can anybody please recommend an unlocking code provider for the Nokia 520? Had a quick look in ebay but it seems very expensive to unlock it.

I did a lot of searching but ended up paying $22.95 USD to ITZ Unlocked.

    • Try bagman on here, good bloke

  • Looking to replace My Telstra frontier 4g. How is the GPS on Lumia and the 300? Need one that doesn't keep losing signal and is the Lumia drag n drop friendly as I always watch movies on my phone.

    • GPS hardware wise, more or less the same (in terms of locking speed and accuracy). However, Nokia Here Drive is one of the best navigation systems (and it supports / provides offline maps). So, it is like having TomTom for Android for free.

Hardware wise, Frontier 4g has a better CPU+GPU than either phone. Though Frontier 4G's LCD screen is really poor quality. Lumia has 8GB phone storage (after OS and system apps, about 4.5GB user usable). ZTE did a poor job on the software side of Frontier 4g. Only Frontier 4g supports LTE/4G out of the 3 phones.

  • The frontier is really unstable at times, yes the screen is really bad the GPS loses signal no matter where I am. My misses S3 GPS using google maps so far is pretty much good in terms of signal n navigation with google maps

    • Just tested: Frontier 4G GPS is quite poor compared Nokia Lumia 520.

Google Maps is good, but Nokia Drive is better (you get your driving speed and the current speed limit), route settings (whether to use toll road for example), and you don't need 3g/4g data to use it (you can download the entire AU map onto your phone). If you are willing to pay $20, you can download every country map supported by Nokia Drive.

  • Price-matched at OW (their store is just around the corner - only reason).
Thanks - it will be a good phone for my mum.

  • How's the GPS hardware on the 300

  • Now $99 at Officeworks

  • i bought one from officeworks and it doenst boot :(
worst thing is i paid for unloking code $27.50 now if i go and get a replacement i need to pay again for unlocking code:(

  • Thanks OP - managed to get an Optus Lumia 520 from Harvey Norman for $99, wife needed a replacement phone and this will do very nicely.

  • Been wanting to try WIndows Phone - boom
    Thanks OP

  • I think the HTC has been removed?

  • Noticed at Dick 'Head' Smith this morning (Top Ryde NSW) that despite having the 'clearance' tags up on a range of prepaid phones, there was no stock whatsoever. Poor form Dick.
