Unless you have celiac disease gluten free is a scam

it can also be recommended for those with other medical conditions such as fructose malabsorption and irritable bowel syndrome :)

Got any evidence that avoiding gluten is beneficial for individuals with fructose malabsorption?

        • do you understand what fructose malabsorption is?

avoiding gluten is a way of avoiding wheat :)

        • -1

Wiki says the exact opposite, ie that people with fructose malabsorption don't have to avoid gluten. I'll ask again, any evidence?

        • +1

they should avoid wheat, which contains gluten => avoiding gluten is a way of avoiding wheat :)

        • -2

I will take that as meaning you have no evidence except spurious anecdotal claims…

        • you don't believe wheat contains gluten?

btw one can also be gluten intolerant without having coeliac disease :)

        • No, I don't believe that there's any evidence that avoiding gluten is beneficial for those with fructose malabsorption. You've yet to provide a single shred of evidence despite repeated requests…A simple website link would be fine. Anything at all?

        • sorry but if you can't follow logic or read wikipedia properly then there's no point in providing more evidence :(

        • It pretty clearly says "Foods (such as bread) marked "gluten-free" are usually suitable for fructose malabsorbers, though sufferers need to be careful of gluten-free foods that contain dried fruit or high fructose corn syrup or fructose itself in sugar form. However, fructose malabsorbers do not need to avoid gluten, as those with celiac disease must"

        • Foods that should be avoided by people with fructose malabsorption include:

Foods rich in fructans and other fermentable oligo-, di- and mono-saccharides and polyols (FODMAPs), including artichokes, asparagus, leeks, onions, and wheat-containing products, including breads, cakes, biscuits, breakfast cereals, pies, pastas, pizzas, and wheat noodles.

wheat-containing products include gluten => avoiding gluten is a way of avoiding wheat

    • You mean SCAM

    • While marketers have definitely taken advantage of the market (smaller portions, higher prices), some gluten free alternatives are healthier than their counterparts.

Research the different types of flours (eg. wheat vs buckwheat) and how our bodies absorb them, particularly their proteins. In addition to absorption, gluten free flours also tend to be much lighter, carb and calorie wise.

And I also love The Checkout.

    • Yep, avoid gluten, hello lighter wallet and diabetes? A necessity for some unfortunately.

  • i don't know why anyone would want to go gluten-free by choice.

  • o many people eating gluten free for no reason. The truth is if it was just people with a diagnosed issue eating it, as opposed to recommended by their personal trainer, hippie naturopath or other unqualified person there wouldn't be a big enough market for any supermarket to bother with.

Of course there are people that would benefit and all the best to them.
