Toyota Camry Oil Filter Z418 $6 over 50% off - Supercheap Auto

250

Went into my local Repco to buy an oil filter for my car. Was told it was $17 but would do it for $14 and thought that was still a little too much for me. So I decided to try supercheap and glad I did! It's apparently in their current sale and should be nation wide. I bought 12 and they still had heaps of stock! I'm now set for the next couple of years.

    Good work. I think. XD

Thanks OP. Now I just have to buy a Camry. Any good deals on those.

  • +5

    Z9, Z154, Z79A and Z386 are all $6 as well

    • are they the only ones on sale mate?

      • +1

        Yeh just those ones

    • You guys know $6 is normal price for filters in some countries right? :( Stock up while you can.

    • I visited a Supercheap store today and the Z386 is not on sale unfortunately. Although original price of $10.45 is pretty good anyway.

  • +7

This is probably quite the relevant bargain, i'm sure half this this forum owns SV21 camrys

    • +1

Nope, MCV20R… But the Mrs used to have one!

      • It appears i don't know my camry's, the MCV20R was the one i meant.

    • +1

Oh man, my first car was a beige sv21. 8 years on I am looking for another one, this time I am getting the V6 jap import.

      Oh the memories…

  • +2

Good deal. Most Ozbargainers can't afford to service their Camry's after they do bulk buys of migoreng noodles(for breakfast, lunch and dinner)

  • +2

    12 lol

now thats something Broden would be proud of! isnt that like 6 yrs worth?

    • Haha I change my oil (magnatec) every 5k-7.5k klm… keeps my engine nice and happy :)

    • +1

Mr JZX - don't you service yours relatively regularly? 5,000KM for our 1JZs…

  • +3

Weirdly i believe this is also the filter for many BMW M10 and M40 engined 4 cylinders (from the classic 2002 up though the 90s) along with a HEAP of other vehicles Including 4cyl toranas, the awful 4cyl falcon, Alpha Romeos, Saabs, even harleys lol http://www.sparespro.com.au/product.php?productid=16436
(if somebody ever looks here trying to figure out what goes on an m20 engine, it is generally z63, even the ryco database has this wrong for the later model 320i and list the model for the old 320. Same filter as the 325i, which they have right)

    • +1

      Awful 4 cylinder Falcon?

    • Many engine have same filter threads. So do the filter body size, they are interchangeable. However, different brands have different oil flow rate and filter pore microns. Most however is adequate for daily driving use. The so call high flow filters are good for track use.

  • +2

Unfortunately for all the cool kids with Nissan's (myself included) we usually take Z145A :( Bugger, great deal though!

  • -1

normal price $4.50 at Mekong auto parts, Canley Vale 2166. Made in Indonesia.

    • Is that for Ryco though?

PS- This also suits the 5VZ-FE petrol engine that the Toyota Prado 95 series use. Might go get myself a couple tomorrow.

      • it's Sakura brand oil filter C-1123. Interchangeable with 90915-03002, 16510-82001, PF53, Z418, Z87A, Z422.
FILTER OLI, PT. Selamat Sempurna Tbk. Jakarta

        • I have seen a few companies selling cheap oil filters. Userviceit is another one. Are these $5 oil filters good to use in cars rather than spending $20 at SCA or other brands?

        • +2

I personally never use anything that isn't genuine Nissan (surprisingly cheap at the right dealer) or Ryco. I'd rather pay a little more, engine rebuilds or replacements are expensive. Labour alone for myself to get another motor would be about $1k.

        • +2

Do Nissan manufacture oil filters? Or other bolt on ancillaries?

Ps. To ShirdiSaiBaba above. There can be a huge difference between brands in oil filters. ie. The filtration and flow etc. Imagine all those tiny particles of metal or other oil contaminants flowing through your engine. Or worse, putting your foot into the loud pedal only to find out later on that that very noisy twangy sound coming from your engine was caused by lack of oil flow through the engine because it's stuck back at the filter!

        • +2

Thanks guys. I guess using Ryco will give us peace of mind

        • No they don't. But at least I know it's of a certain quality.

  • Also by chance fits my Cub Cadet ride on. So prob suitable for a number of Kohler small engines.

  • Not a bad price

  • How can I check what parts my car uses?

  • -5

Anybody who has a Toyota Camry would not even know how to change an oil filter :0

    • -3

We don't need to, we can afford to take ours to a mechanic… Unlike the Commo or Falcon owners who have to do it in their driveways!

      • That can't be right, if you can afford to pay a mechanic to change your oil filter, you aren't driving a Camry :)

        • +1

Actually, I am driving a Camry. But in the 3 years I've owned it I can't see the sense in taking it to a mechanic… It's near bulletproof!!!

Edit: Oh, and I have the Camry because apart from having company cars in the past, my last car lost 30k value in about 6 years, whereas I could still sell the Camry for the exact same amount I paid for it 3 years ago!
Meanwhile, I've saved heaps on interest and my houses have gone up about 30%+ in value!

        • Whilst i agree not spending money on the latest car has some merit, there is your own safety at play. Safety technology has gone ahead in leaps and bounds in recent years. I'd rather survive a crash with maybe a broken bone or 2 in my 2013 VW than a fatality or major disability in a 1992 car.

        • +1

Agree with the safety aspects, that's why we also have a recent model Euro car! But a more educated, more aware driver would be safer in a HQ than what 90% of the population are in in their current models!
It seems that a lot of people nowadays rely to heavily on technology to keep them pointing in the right direction without fully understanding what it does or having ever experienced the effects it has on the car. The negative to this is that they don't actually know how to "drive" a car!

        • I would rather be in a 2000camry than the latest golf in an accident. At the end of the day it will be about vehicle mass as well

      • +2

i just enjoy changing my own oil ;)

        • +4

I used to back in the day. Nowadays it's change a nappy, not the oil; or build a deck, not a donk; or pull the weeds, not the chicks!!!

        • +2

i've long decided that my cars will be my children :p

  • Damn, no Half Price for Z445, but increased about $1 to $20.75! That is about the same price when i bought the 5L Castrol Oil on special!!

  • Would this fit Toyota Aurion?

    • Depends on your engine model! What year Aurion?

  • Here's a good model reference chart for anyone wondering what the Z418 will fit… then expand the product description.

Ps. Thanks OP. I've been meaning to order a K&N air filter from the States and was going to grab an oil filter at the same time. Now I can't see the sense in spending the extra over getting the Ryco at this price!!!

  • -2

I'm sorry to break this to you but there are suppliers on eBay (Sydney based) that sells genuine OEM filters for only 10 bucks..

    • +1

Who in particular? Holden, Ford, Toyota, Mazda? I didn't realize that these companies actually manufactured their own oil filters!
Ps. These are only $6… and I can't confirm who does today, but it wasn't that long ago that Ryco used to supply most Australian car manufacturers!

      • I got Toyota and Honda filters from them. They also stock Mazda. Toyotas are made in Thailand, Hondas are Japan. You are right, car companies don't make oil filter, they usually outsource.

I understand $6 is cheap, but I don't like how Ryco price their products on par with OEM ones in normal days. I used to buy a Ryco air filter from SCA at like $40 or something, thinking it would be like $70 at Toyota dealer, turned out it was also $40 there. So I vow to never use Rycos again. If I want cheap, I ll just go with Repco ones.

    • Hunting for one. Link please?

Last time I paid extra on getting a Mobil-1…so far so good.

      • Suzukisuper on eBay here

I like Mobil 1 oil filter and Pennzoil or Mobil oil on some of my car as well. Peace of mind for the lazy ones like me. Since I dont drive it a lot and too lazy, I usually change oil at 10k or 1 year lol

Did you get your Mobil-1 filters at GL lube $18?

        • Yeah both Mobil 1 oil (EP) and filter there.

Already 1 year and 13000km and still running great! Well apart from needed to top up the oil once (400ml)

  • Now we all know who the real Camry drivers are… :)

  • +2

Great I'll get some tomorrow. 1jz represent.

    • +3

Reppin' 2J over here. No SH*T!

    • JZX110 reporting in.

  • is it easy to change Oil & filter in Corolla? Toyota service is ripping me for charging $250!

    • +1

Yes it is, but you probably will need a socket set and wrench, plus jack. If you havent changed oil and filter on a car before, might be worth finding a mate who has some experience. No big deal it's just better to know a little of what you are doing.

Probably no worse off than having a pimply faced apprentice working on your car at the dealership!!!

    • don't forget the jack stands!

also, look up your model year online for some tutorials to figure out exactly what tools you need to buy.

on one of my cars for example, i only need a 17 and 13mm socket for the sump and oil filter housing. so i could just go down to supercheap or whatever, get a 3/8" ratchet, those 2 sockets, maybe an extension bar, 1400kg jack, jack stands, oil pan, funnel, oil filter and 5L of oil.

you might also need a lot of newspaper for the inevitable first oil change spills: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135207 ;)

    • You could skimp on the jack stands if need be and park it over the gutter! Just need a ratchet & appropriate socket or a ring spanner (prob 5/8 or 11/16)! And depending how tight the filter is, you may not need a filter remover, you can just use a leather belt, etc!

Edit: Just thought, this is for an older Corolla. I forgot they still make them. Got no idea on a new one how accessible it is!

      • +1

i'd still chock the wheels though. i know we ozbargainers are cheap but it shouldn't be at the expense of safety :)

    • i just changed my oil filter first time by myself. I can help if you need.
      Oops mine is a camry.

    • @ Devang…. UTube it! If you arent confident, there are plenty of instruction videos online to help you learn. It's not hard, but if you dont do it right you can hurt yourself or your car.

Read the comments of the videos, because if the video shows someone doing something obviously wrong, somone will pick up on it.

Either that, I go into Supercheap and buy a service manual for your car. But its not hard.

  • Hmm will this fit in my 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder BRZ?

    • +1

Nope, you need a Z79A. Which just happens to retro fit an old carby 1.3L Ford Laser. Go figure!!! ;)

      • +1

        Lol I was joking. I'm a mechanic. ;)

        • +1

I gathered looking at the link. Clearly I was too, hence the Laser reference! ;)

        • What about a 2012 Outback 3.6L?

  • +1

Is this the Camry admiration society? - I had the sv21 wagon Acclaim (1990-2?)- red one so it went fast…. Went round Oz in it - did die in the end but many good memories in the Gulf, Darwin, Springs, the rock - mate still has one and his kids drive it - held together with 100 mile/hr tape but what a car ! Always did my own oil change…will past this on - Thanks for the tip !

  • +2

Sorry meant CSI - getting it mixed up with the Holden -= cheers

    • +1

Ha! I was going to ask if maybe you had an Apollo? ;)

  • To the OP,
Thanks for posting the deal. You might want to check manufacture date. While the rest of the filter material might have infinite shelflife but you might want to keep the rubber seal around the lip of the spare filters away from heat and drying out.

    • +4

Really haven't heard of this happening, most of us just take a rag and wipe some fresh oil onto the rubber seal before installation.

      • Yes that's what I do. Just lube it up with a bit of oil before putting it on is best practice.

        • And the fact I change my oil more frequently then others means I'll go through those 12 filters within a few years.

  • +1

thanks op and dank16. Picked up two z 386. Not marked down on the shelf but rang up as $6

  • +2

Lee Spare Parts and Performance in Underwood Qld most filters are $6 ea all day everyday for sakura which from what I have read are equivalent to ryco quality. Do your own research on it.. It also makes me smile to read people worried about filter quality when they are using Castrol Magnatec.. Again do your own research.

    • +1 on the Magnatec. Used it once 15+ years ago and listened to engine rattle around like an old train!!!

  • +1

Awesome, two filters on sale for my two cars. Z79A and Z386. Thanks. Shame I didn't see them the other day when I was there, problem with products on sale in sca is that they don't display it large enough, like how coles does it.

  • My 2008 Camry takes Z432 :( its ACV40R

  • supercheap auto and much much more

  • +1

Blackburn VIC store out of stock. Only have the expensive "Platinum" ones left.

  • -1

While it is a good price it isn't really a bargain…
Look at Ebay filters if you want cheaper for your car.

    • +1

Are Ryco filters cheaper on eBay? Is the cheaper brand you're referring to as reputable as the Ryco brand? If you answer no to these questions, then how is this not a bargain?
As an example: People post the Coles or Woolies specials for Coke on here, but I can still buy AC Cola cheaper. Does this mean that the Coke is not a bargain?

      • They have OEM filters that were designed with the car engine on eBay. To clear all doubts about which is better, OEM or Ryco, can someone do a video cutting open the 2 after their useful life? :)

        • When you say OEM, is this maybe a brand you're talking about? Because OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer, and depending on the car, most vehicle manufacturers do not actually manufacture their own ancillaries like oil filters, but outsource products from companies like Ryco! The only difference is the colour of the paint on the outside of the can!

  • I went in to get one for my Hilux on the weekend, had no idea they were on sale until I went instore. It's a shame it's only $1.50 saving from the standard price for a Z9.

  • +2

Heads up if any of you have the following filters:

    Important Quality Message From Ryco
    RYCO OIL FILTERS: Made in Indonesia Z386, Z432, Z442, Z445 and Z547

As a precautionary measure, we request that you identify and cease to fit any Ryco branded oil filters with a part number Z386, Z432, Z442, Z445 or Z547 that were manufactured in Indonesia. The country of origin can be found on the bottom of the inner carton. If you have any of this product please call Ryco Customer Service on 1800 804 541 and we will make arrangements with you to have the defective stock swapped at no cost to you.

Last year GUD Automotive experienced a minor quality issue across a limited batch of 65mm diameter spin on oil filters manufactured in Indonesia. The result of the issue was that some filters could weep oil from around the seam of the filter.

As the market leader in Automotive Filtration Ryco takes its product quality very seriously. GUD is taking every possible measure to ensure that all suspect stock is removed from the market. All stock of these part numbers shipped from GUD Automotive since October 2009 has been 100% certified. This stock has a country of origin of China so please do not return this stock.

GUD have undertaken significant investigations into the cause of this defect and are confident that the issue will not reoccur.

Generally if this defect occurs it represents an inconvenience for vehicle owners and fitters, and based on our analysis it is extremely unlikely that engine damage will occur. Should any vehicle in the field exhibit an oil leak then this should be handled through the Ryco warranty policy.

A full Ryco warranty statement can be found in the Ryco catalogue or on our website www.rycofilters.com.au

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and you can rest assured that Ryco is committed to providing high quality genuine performance filtration solutions.
