[Price Error] Breville Scraper Mixer Pro BEM800CB $99.95 (RRP $599) - Myer

Moved to Forum (Price Error): Original Link

I bought one of these 18 months ago for around $500 and couldn't be happier - it's brilliant, very sturdy and work extremely well. According to the Breville page it's recommended by Choice (ha!) and used by MKR (double ha!).

So, I was pretty impressed when I noticed they were out on the Myer website for $99.95! I've linked the cranberry colour in the post, but they also have sherbet, silver and black

Interestingly they also have the cheaper non-pro model for $99.95 (RRP $349) but don't know why you'd get that.

Delivery is $9.95, but they also have free delivery for orders over $100, so if you buy something small to push over the $100 mark you'll get an even better bargain. I bought a set of 6 champagne glasses (was $29) which were on special for $10, but then had a 30% extra discount on them applied - $7. At least I'll then have something to celebrate my bargain with!

The overall advice I have for an bargain-hunting newbie is to refresh the OzBargain page once every 5-10 minutes and keep an eye on new postings and especially those that make it to the front page in a short period of time. Also good to educate yourself on how much things cost vs how much they're actually worth to you because someones 'bargain' could be landfill fodder for others.

Once you get in the groove of that it all comes down to fast reaction times… ie. if you see something you know is good just JUMP ON IT! As per Knackers comment you missed your window of opportunity by about 24 hours so there's no point even bothering to go into the store now :) You've gotta be a lot quicker than that!

Does anyone have a screen shot of any of the mixers priced at $99? I'm going to give Myer a mouthful.

    • +1

I'm going to give Myer a mouthful.

      Why? What did they do?

      • -2

Have you read any of the posts?

        • Yeah, read them all. But so far Myer hasn't cancelled anyone's order, so what is there to complain about?

  • Just got a call from Myer and they will be cancelling my order because it's a price error :(
Didn't even offer any compensation or anything

    • bummer, wonder if one brings up that they've actually sold a few at $99 if they'd change their minds.

      • I mentioned this to her but she said she's not aware of this and the main thing is that it is a price error and they will not be selling it to me for $99

  • I wonder if anyone else had the same phone call? :(

  • +2

I had the call few minutes ago, expressed my disappointment and frustration, the rep said he was very sorry and decided to give me a $20 voucher for my trouble. Good one Myer. :)

    • I was not offered any vouchers

    • boo.. was hoping they would honour it.

am yet to receive the phone cal,

do you have the rep name?

      • Sorry no, but you can try what I did.

      • I didn't get her name, she sounded in her 40s or 50s. Called from Victoria, area code 03

Went to the Karrinyup store in WA & spoke with a guy there who called up the head office to check. Told him about the story of the guy whose partner got it on layby & showed him the receipt from the sydney store.

Talked to the head office for about 15mins, no luck. Head office said noone would & noone is getting it at that price.. Was a little disappointed because the attitude of a couple of the staff were like "she can't seriously think that she's gonna get it" but then again, that particular store's staff don't have the best reputation..

So, no luck for me people, but if you're trying, better luck to you!

They gave me a $40 Myer gift card last week after inadvertently selling a display unit as new. I used a variety of free giftcards to make the purchase. V.me giftcards, myerone giftcard, woolworths promo, ING 5% credit x 2. In the end I paid approx. $300 for a Breville Kitchen Wizz pro + free scales.

  • I have not received a call yet but if I do I will express my disappointment in then taking more than 24hrs to contact me. Not really good enough… Yes I am ranting

    • agreed took them less then 30 mins to change the site why did they need to wait 24hrs?

      • +2

Maybe because of something like this…

        • They see lots of orders coming in and fix the price up on the website/mark it out of stock to stop any more
        • They then have this mass of orders that did get through and need to work out what to do with it
        • They probably need to gather all the info (eg how many people did get an order for that price).
        • They probably then need to escalate it with management and work out what they are going to do
        • Then find someone who has some spare time to call the hundreds of people

Each step takes time… its not like flicking a switch and instantly everyone is called. I think 24hours is a reasonable time to get back to you on this…

        • -3

I disagree. The only thing that could take much time is someone making a decision and it taking 24hrs is still not good enough

        • -4

They should have plans in place for all possible outcomes and price ranges. There is no reason to make a phone call they could easily send an email to anyone who made an account ie most.
Calling each buyer is a waste of everyone time not to mention a blanket email would be significantly cheaper then calling each person individually for unspecified periods of time.
I for one only give out fake numbers, anything they need to say can be said in writing.

        • +3

Do you work for Myer? If not then how do you know how long each step takes (even if these are the steps).

Maybe they had to check with their legal team? Maybe they have other internal processes they need to go through?

Maybe their IT systems aren't very good and they couldn't easily pull up a list of all the orders? Who knows, but expecting to know within a few hours I think is unreasonable.

        • if they sent you the email, you would then proceed to complain that you were sent a generic email by Myer which shows that they dont care about the customers and can't find the time to call and personally inform the customers. Its a lose-lose situation with guys like you

  • I imagine they are going to call every one of the people who bought this mixer for $99 and cancel their order/s. The Myers 'orders' section of their website is currently down, so once that is back up I reckon they'll start calling people again.

    • +1

Yep, their system is currently down and the guy I spoke to said that their IT dept. is hopeless and he expects the system to be fix tomorrow.

      • -3

I wonder when Myer will disclose to the ASX this issue, especially since their website is down. For some optimism for some of you, Myer always has website only sales, with offers up to 75% off the retail price and and they also regularly do 75% off the marked price, reduced price and clearance sales etc. There was a range of items and brands selling for $99 not just one so there is only a number of times you can claim incompetence of pricing error. I am sure there was random people who genuinely thought it was a legitimate sale since the $99 price was on a number of items and brands.

        • +10

You think Myer will disclose a pricing error on a mixer to the ASX?

Funniest thing I've heard all day :)

        • -4

The website being down could force an ASX announcement, like they had to for the post boxing day period, however the website seems to be back up. My post was in reply to lusiul so take it easy grasshopper.

If they were forced to honor the error, if people take them on, they could have to disclose any potential earnings downgrade if it was big enough.

        • +3

Haha potential earnings downgrade on a few lousy kitchen appliances. You can't be serious

matt_will_fix_it was wrong… your reply is the funniest thing he's heard all day

        • With the same logic, every time the CEO has a loose stool, they should report it to the ASX. His ability to run the company is being affected, thus causing a potential earnings downgrade? Im sure the ASX has bigger fish to fry.

        • -3

You guys still do not get it, however the post was in relation to if the online website was going to be down for a few days. Anyway I am happy that I was able secure multiple mixers and food processors…not everyone's was able to be cancelled.

        • +2

          SELL SELL SELL

        • Wait… the Myer website is back online… BUY, BUY, BUY

  • I just got the phone call and was given an apology but not offered a voucher or anything. Pity. But she did explain that it was within Myers terms and conditions that any price error purchase could be cancelled by them.

    • -4

There is laws that can override them though. Myer has not published a retraction that the pricing was an error and could be deemed Multiple pricing as a number of products and brands were priced at $99 online and at higher prices in store.

      • +1

        care to quote which law?

      • What law?
Also, lots of stores have different online to in store pricing.

      • +2

dandandan, seriously just stop. You are spitting non existent law left and right. It's a pricing error and recalling from my first year law subject years ago, one needs to suspend the sale and resume the sale once the error is fixed. THAT'S BLOODY IT !!! You might offer the customer the price of $99 as an act of goodwill, not because there are laws overriding them.

        • -3

Clearly vermantino! you have no idea and have no idea of Australian Consumer Laws. If you read the thread carefully you would see a receipt posted of a purchase after the sale was suspended and fixed. Good on you with the capitalised commentary….better brush up on your so called first year law subject study from years ago.

        • +2

You need to brush up on your reading skills. There is only one receipt posted. That wasn't because Myer was required by the law to sell it at that price as it was clearly a pricing error. Hell the person even said he/she got it as a gesture of goodwill shown by Myer's employees which was what I posted, if you bothered to read it in the first place :)

          http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/ftw/Consumers/Buying_goods…

This is the law. You said there are laws overriding this which requires Myer to sell it at $99,please show me :)

        • Wow Dandandan, you are determined…

you have no idea and have no idea of Australian Consumer Laws.

And a comedian i guess because that is pretty funny. Well unless you meant that seriously in which case it is rather sad. Found that law you think exists yet?

  • -1

Wow, I have absolutely zero sympathy for anyone who ordered this expecting to get away with pretty much theft!

Some of the people on this website are absolutely appalling- the amount of energy you have used to lift your fingers and thumb to press the add to cart button and type in your paypal account password must really have hurt your feelings enough for a $20 gift voucher in compensation.

And no- it is not a defense to say some companies deserve it because they lie, cheat and find just as many loopholes as us. Those companies are made of people just like you!

    • +5

Interesting opinion. So why do you visit ozbargain exactly? Don't appreciate being labeled a thief. I just like being a savvy shopper.

      • +7

To find genuine bargains !!! Not to score bargains and capitalize on someone's error. COME ON !!! You know its a pricing error before you even decided to buy it. If I get it, great. If not, I wouldn't go make complaints.

    • +1

Companies have different policies. As a result there are differences in how they (their employees, following those policies) behave if something goes wrong.

It makes sense to keep track of that. Why not label companies as good or bad and adjust your behaviour accordingly? If everyone does that eventually the good companies thrive and the bad ones go out of business.

    • +4

It's sad isn't it. To see a large portion of Ozbargainers with a warped sense of entitlement and worse there justification of it sometimes.

  • +1

Got the dreadful call. However bargained a $20 gift voucher that they will send to my email :)

  • +4

Voucher offered as standard now. Thanks for your haggling, people before me. A decent gesture for a (somewhat predictable) disappointment.

  • With confirmed price error, we are now moving this to the forums.

    Hi guys

First of all thanks for both guys who got breville mixer for 99 down from 599 from penrith store and let us here an the other guy got kenwood chef for 99 dowm from 999 in sydney city store he dis posted the receipt. You both guys are nice and let us know with generocity and with guts to get from store. You both deserve well.

Today i printed the receipt for kenwood mixer for 99 to sydney city store as only sydney city carry that range. I talked with the salesguy n showed the receipt my friend got it and he called the manager. The manager happened to be same manager approved yesterday for 99 for this guy. He said im sorry it was a genuine price error. Your friend was lucky what happened was the sales guy name xx has hearing issue and when the salesguy asked for permission he thought customer wanted $99off from full price of 999 not 99 as final price and he said yes go for it. The manager added again your friend came again to get another one showed me the receipt then only he realised salesguy wanted permission to authorise for 99 not 99 off from 999. Since sale was done i told your friend you are lucky with that price and he added your friend seems nice guy share the receipt with you. The floor manager added again if he had already fully understand the price is 99, he wouldnt have honored that price to your friend.

He said if you want talk with store manager and i did store manager said same the saleaguy guy gave incorrect info to floor manager and it was authorised. The sales guy now accountable for the loss of sale. He added again the terms and conditions if price error they can refuse to honor it. He said he can give 20 percent off the mixer to make me happy. I said him no thanks.

Thanks guy whoever got the mixer for 99 enjoy it and you guys well deserve it. You guys should try lotto to try luck too:)

Note: since i used to worked in sydney city myer 10yrs ago in same department i knew the sales guy the manager mention has hearing aid. I feel for him as he was my colleague 10yrs ago and once i prevented him misunderstood was going to give 50 percent for something instead of 15 percent. I hope his job is not in danger and only getaway with retraining and warning

    • So much adding

    • that's concerning
