I love the tivo, and so does the wife. I had one of the series 1 single tuner standard def imported US boxes for years running the oztivo software (those guys are champs) using the Infrared blaster to control a standard def set top box.
Finally I got the HD twin tuner legitimate AUS version last year for a similar price as above, and whilst you cannot do the 30 second add skip thing, it is not really an issue. It may take all of 8-12 seconds to skip a standard advertisement block which I can live with. More often than not I put the tv on pause during an ad break so that I have time to grab a beer / get a snack / get the wife something anyway, and upon returning simply fast-forwardx3.
The first thing i did with the HD tivo remove the existing internal hard drive and replace with a 1TB drive (prior to ever connecting the tivo to the network).
I wouldnt waste money on the tivo home networking package though, it kind of sucks.

But if you can get your wife to get you something instead of you getting her something it would've been perfect! No need to leave the couch!
This is cheaper at Harvey Norman. I went to the Chadstone store the other week and picked one up with a little negociation very cheap.

Google it. No ad-skipping. I'm not saying its a bad deal. Its just not the same tivo you hear the yanks raving about.
