    Great deal thanks for posting

  • I can't think of a reason why I'd need more storage… I want to buy cause it's a great price but frankly just don't need it, and when I do, 1Tb will be laughably small..

    • m in the same boat so am skipping this also

      • me too. June 30 & great price tempt me, but I'll pass

  • Which WD hdd do you think it is?

    Likely to be the WD10EADS ?

  • The only difference between the ..DS and ..VS drive seems to be the cache size

    Looking at the spec sheet for the WD Caviar Green drives, cache size:

    DS = 32MB
    CS = 16MB
    VS = 8MB

    SEE -> http://www.wdc.com/en/library/sata/2879-701229.pdf for more details on this drive family.

    Thus the drive will lose out in random access but for an archiving drive it should be fine and fast with the eSATA connection (if you have a compatible port on your computer).

  • Damn, bought this same setup from Umart in Brisbane just a week ago for $163.00 so this is a good price.

    Three small complaints about the AStone housing:
    1. It comes with very short (~600mm) USB and eSATA cables.
    2. The power and access LEDS are on one side of the housing such that they are facing away from you if you have the drive sitting on the supplied base and on your right side (yep, stick it on the left side and you're good to go).
    3. Housing needs to sit on a rubber pad to dampen a small amount of resonant vibration from the drive through the housing. Can't see any means to dampen the drive from the housing at all.

    Otherwise, good gear.

    Donk.

      One possible reason for the short ESATA cable is that they have problems at longer lengths. Problems include causing the system to freeze, hang, and essentially not work. There are some unresolved issues with ESATA.

    • How is the transfer rate on USB2 ? The best I had was Vantec USB/SATA NexStar 3, it gave 25-30Mb/s.

      I have not tested the Lacie 1TB. Not sure if the "USB Boost" helps.

      • esata can get about 40kb read on average, I have seen it at 60 for me but on average will not drop below 30kb for write

        • i think he means MB not KB.. :)

  • good price. just bought one

      • Free USB does not work with additional purchases…just tried :(
        But the $10 off = free shipping makes up for it :D!

        • really? damn

  • any other coupons on this site?

  • Yup..
    Discount Cannot be Applied: This discount code may not be used with other discounts.

    Nonetheless, great code (and great deal), thanks! :)

    Somehow I can't seem to pay by CC, but meh, BPay with CC should have no extra charge, right?

  • bought one TOTAL: $128.95 delivered.

  • Great deal, also used the $10 coupon (thanks monkp).

    I was about to buy this external enclosure from umart for $33, but with this deal you are essentially getting a 1TB WD drive for only $96. You can't even buy a 1TB drive that cheap at msy or umart.

  • Nice, got one!

  • Good deal. Just bought one. Thanks!

  • Only 1 percent of stock left!

  • sweeet deal!

    By the way, what's the speed difference for the USB 2.0 and eSATA?

    And; I've got an Acer Aspire 2902Z, and was wondering if I bought an expresscard with eSATA, will I still get eSATA speeds? If so, will there be a superior difference compared to USB2.0? Cheers!

    • AFAIK eSATA is pretty much the same speed as normal SATA? The speed of the drive won't even be as fast as the max theoretical speed of eSATA. So yes, it will be much faster than USB2.0

  • SOLD OUT! SOLD OUT! SOLD OUT!

    And I'm glad I brought myself one :D!

  • I got one too :) Said 2% left when I ordered, and 1% left when the order was complete. Now I'm researching whether the expresscard with eSATA port will transfer as fast as with an eSATA port already in the computer.

  • Anyone had their drive shipped yet? Its now tuesday and it still just says "processed".

    • i just got a "dispatched" email this morning. hopefully it will be soon.

  • So what's the next best 1tb esata drive?

  • Back in stock today, but now $169 + $40 Top Buy rebate. So it's now only $129 if you place another order for something else to use the rebate.
