Yes it's Voda but if you're data and mobile usage is low, getting a $30 post paid plan makes sense as you get a free phone as well (Xperia Z 4G). And you can use the $300 credit to call overseas.
Don't forget your cashback! $96 from Qwibble. Mine tracked 5 minutes after the transaction.
Let's do the maths:
$30 x 24 = $720
Less: $96 cashback and $60 4 months half price access fees (if you are eligible, ends 26-Mar)= $564
$564/24 = $23.50 per month. You get a free phone, $300 credit and 300mb data! Not bad.
FYI Optus has the Xperia Z 4G free on their $50 plan. Telechoice is selling the Xperia Z 4G for $600+
Side note: Call rep offered me iPhone 5C 8gb on $40 plan + $0 handset payment but I don't get the cashback nor the half-price access fee.

  • The Xperia Z is probably closer to $400 for local stock, but good deal nonetheless, especially consideirng Vaya and LiveConnected's recent price increases.

    • And some can salary sacrifice a phone, but not a plan.

  • I got the Xperia Z deal for my and my mum last week, since we were both with Lycamobile (using iPhone 4's). We live in Brisbane and have found the reception very good with Vodafone. I tried out 4G the other day in the CBD (Bus Tunnel near cultural centre stop) and got around 64mbps down and 32 mbps up! And yes the plan is $300 fake money of credit per month and 300mb 4G data per month. They're also doing first 2 months free ($60 discount) in-store or 4 months half price online.

  • Can't make out the deal from the title.

  • Its still too expensive. I'd rather get a cheaper mobile plan with vaya/amaysim/telechoice.

    • Eh, Vaya's cheapest plan is $16 (which has lower inclusions and shittier customer service). So $16*24=$384, which leaves only $280 for a phone. If you're happy with a phone you can get for that budget, and don't mind the lower inclusions and per megabyte data billing (urgh) then I guess Vaya is a good choice, but this is a much better deal imo.

Vaya is per Kb billing. Customer service is not worse the others. I don't know if Vodafone has improved it's connection, but it used to drop or be inexistent. So all that "Credit" is not worth much. Since I changed to VAYA I am a much happier person.

All new Vaya plans are per MB, unfortunately. In my experience, it adds about 15% to my data use (comparing my phone's log vs my bill).

And as for their service, well, this is a conversation I had with them requesting a plan change. Worth noting that the fee ended up being $10, not the $33 I was quoted. I've contacted customer service several times, always with results like this.

I am happy with them as a phone provider though, good value for money and with Optus' coverage, just be prepared for a massive pain in the arse if you need to contact customer service.

  • $40 plan is $400 now and 500mb
5c free on $40 is current offer (8gb version) so anyone can get it.

300 MB with 4G, that can be a disaster.

Obviously everyone for themselves, but 300 MB was barely enough for an average user 2-3 years ago when 4G wasn't even available. Now with faster access, more HD content it will only require more. So be wary of excess charges.

Interestingly I have a 30 per mth plan with voda and have had for the last 4 yrs i get 200 Mb data per mth and find i never use more than 100 . Why I have internet at home and use the phone as it's meant to be used for voice and text only. Not as a Tv or Movie player. I have all those things at home, where they are meant to be.

I am not addicted to Facebook or Twitter so never need to use either. I see no reason to use more than 500 Mb per mth on data if the user refuses to play the smartphone shuffle and waste bandwidth on FB, Twitter, or on web browsing which is better suited to a PC or tablet with bigger viewing area and faster connectivity.

      • where is my time machine? I want to send you back in time of Nokia 3310/3315…lol

      • Stop being an old man… it seems like you are butthurt by people using the phone for what it is capable of these days. You are in a minority if you use phone just to call and text. I don't use FB or twitter, have wifi at home and office, and i still get to 500mb with 4G. I use it for google maps, internet banking, push email, looking up information on google, etc. If i were you I would get a feature phone with a cheap sim only plan, because based on your usage you have been getting ripped off for the last 4 years.

      • I use my 1.5GB every month because I like tube8 a lot. Ha there you have it !

Remind me never to borrow your phone

    • Really depends on how you use a phone. Connect to WIFI at home and work … disable data when you don't need it. I usually use between 30 and 75MB / month (I am on the 1$ TPG plan which includes 50MB of data … excess is 2c/MB … so ideal for me). 300MB would be nice and give me a bit more convenience …

What do I really need to use MOBILE … email, google maps, Instagram pics, Facebook or Twitter post and lots of instant messaging … for all other things I am usually connected to WIFI. I know this is not for everyone but works for me.

But I agree with "hys" … watch out for excess charges it's easy to get over when you don't manage it properly …

  • can we get rebate after joining ?
    i joined last week.
also.. im moving from crazy john to vodafone - but i havent even received my tracking number yet. is that normal?

  • Still comes to $13 a month (if the phone cost $400) for about 4hours worth of calls you can make + 300mb data each month. At least with a prepaid you can more or less vary your monthly usage and not worry about it not using about using too less or too much in any given month.

When i was on crazy johns with $5 data i used to do 150mb a month of the 500 mb.. but now I hardly use more than 50mb data a month which would set me back $1 on my current prepaid.

  • Is the phone unlocked? The resale of a locked phone is pretty restricted I suppose.
