    • yeah took me awhile to work it out too…..

  • +1

Yet again, I simply give up trying to use their website, saved $25… bargain!

  • Was thinking of getting class 10 UHS to use as readyboost, now this one is better than the sd card readyboost.

Just picked up 2 from Malvern MSY. Whilst I ordered it online, I never got a confirmation email and went there straight after I ordered. The guy did look at my order email before grabbing the stock though.

There wasn't any line and it looked like they had heaps left.

  • Got order number picking mine up tmr after work so cheap for abit of a speed boost

  • These SSD are actually quite common in tablets and laptops found on alibaba.

  • can i buy a portable hdd enclosure for this and use it as an external hdd?

    • +1

Don't see why not, make sure you get a USB3 enclosure.. would be a pretty damn quick portable.

  • I wish there was a way to make these work as a SD card.. lol

  • +1

Could be useful as a virtual ram drive to older server or htpcs.

    • Nice idea - there should be enough space for a linux install AND a swap partition on it, easy. Maybe 6G swap and 24G root/boot with media storage and log rotations on spindles.
I hadnt thought of putting swap on it too - i am in your debt

  • Comment: Oh this is a very good…

[error. out of hard drive space.]

  • +1

Pick one up for my NUC-HTPC. Thanks!

  • Can we Raid 0 with these? Probably can, right?

  • If someone need one I'm selling mine $25 (sealed).

  • My 250gb Samsung SSD currently has 163gb free space after almost 1 year. Worth getting one of these to support my 2TB drive in the same computer?

    • +1

if u have ssd, the review stated it will help to slow it down……

    • This will not work as a cache in a system with an SSD as far as I have been advised by SanDisk. (http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6790/kw/sdssdr…)

I might have to give this a test though, I removed mine last night and added in a 256GB Boot SSD.

  • How do you set it up for pickup?

  • Anyone used this drive as a boot linux os? Planning to use this as a boot for my IPFire server I'm building.

    • +1

I haven't used this SSD, but wouldn't it be overkill for an IPFire server? Wouldn't something like a USB stick do the job? That said it is about the same price as a USB stick…

  • +1

As a couple of people have mentioned, they are an excellent option for a NUC, especially one that has a main aim as a media server / XMBC install that won't be storing much content locally on the device.
I have done 2 of these in recent weeks and they are perfect for the job, and even more so at that price.

  • Would this be good for a small Linux installation? I won't be putting too many large files onto the drive and I'll be able to add it to my computer to have as a second OS.

    • +1

      yes

  • $13.63 shipping for a SSD.. ? really

  • Could you use this alongside another SSD? I mean, I have a current 128Gb SSD for the OS.. was thinking of putting this just for the readycache… would that work? I have games installed on a normal drive.. so was thinking this would cache it?

    • If you already have an SSD running the OS, you don't want to use this for readycache. It actually slows down your PC. Cache, by definition is something that's fast / faster, but limited in size.

A readycache for an SSD would be something like a RAM drive.

  • this might be good for my old acer revo 3610, might pull it out of the trash heap and make a linux server.

  • +2

For those running a freenas box, this probably wouldn't be too bad as a ZFS cache drive …. Hmmm all the possibilities for only $25 + delivery… Initially I had buyers remorse when I bought it but given this now has over 90 pluses, I feel more confident about my purchase.

  • +1

I've purchased two today at Ultimo. Installing Lubuntu on an old netbook right now. The other i'll probably test caching on later.

    They're light as pencils :S

    • lucky you, I just read my email, went to MSY site none available in NSW.

      • May have been out of stock since they've all been reserved for pick up. However, I just walked in at 6pm and bought it

  • Would this be any good for the OS on a NAS machine?

  • Ordered one yesterday (pickup from Kingsford).
Realised this morning (at like 3am) that it would be a great replacement for the HDD in my Linux media PC. Went to order another one and all gone :(

Then I watched a YouTube video that seemed to imply that you can get even more gains using 2 of them. Spewing I didn't order 2 yesterday!

    • Could've ordered 2 & decide if you want both while picking them up. If you still stuck with 1 the other will still go back in to stock & be sold to some other lucky person.

    • I can't seem to find that video on youtube, do you have a link?

I bought two and pretty happy with what gains I just got with one in my old gaming PC. I was going to use the other as a standalone SSD in a laptop (has two slots) but if I could get 2x gain on the gaming PC then I would do that.

I just can't find the information to hook up two ready cache drives.

      • Just read the text that went with the video. Its actually referring to the second launch.
The video just says No Cache, 1 Cache, 2 Cache which i took to mean 2 cache drives. Sorry.

  • Received a pickup email from MSY.

  • shame that MSY don't have any online store otherwise they would clean up

    • Err, yes they do…

The 'upgraded' their site & separated ordering into 2 sites (pickup & online+delivery) & each also by states respectively. More clunky IMHO.

  • Sold out already.

  • Pity out of stock. I bought one about a month ago for my new SFF Mytbuntu (frontend) machine running MythTV and XBMC. Works beautifully. Boots up in a few seconds - so quickly that I had to disable MythTV from autostart on startup because it would start before the Ethernet connection was established. No need for any more hdd space as all content is on the server machine downstairs. I'm going to build another one but I suppose I'll have to pay the $50 again. Too bad.

    • I picked up two yesterday but I actually need just one, I'm selling it for the same price.

      • Thanks! I'm in Sydney. Never used pm on this forum - but could we correspond to arrange ?

        • I'm in Sydney as well, living in Lidcombe and working in surry Hill. Btw the ssd is sealed and come with the invoice. How can we correspond?

        • I've just changed my account settings to accept private messages. Can you try message me ? You may need to do the same on your account to receive my messages. Cheers.

  • Ordered last night, got email today and just picked it up. Maybe check stock again to be sure guys, I think it disappeared from a few stores then came back later.

  • Hey guys if anyone has one spare in Melbourne I'd be willing to take it off your hands for $30 :)

  • anyone found someone silly enough to price match this deal ? store clerk msy dandenong says sold out vic and nsw. suggested internet pre-orders of up to 50 of these at a time had occurred and honored because payment was made.

    • I don't know HOW…… I tried to order 5 units (Wanted them for caching drives in 5 boxes) and the website said only 2 per order. So I doubt someone ordered 50 in one hit! unless they did 25 orders of 2 each.

Plus its not 'value' if you try to pool them 4 x 32gb = 128GB SSD for $100…. not really cheap

  • +2

Just installed the Sandisk 32Gb and its software. Dropped my Windows 7 boot time from 1 minute and 15 Seconds to just 19 seconds.
Took about 3 reboots for it to learn what to cache.
No bad at all for $25!

    • They are great little speed boosters for older machines, even at $50…. I've installed a few into older machines. If you have under 100GB of OS/DATA then get a 120GB SSD for $90, but if you are like most users have have 500GB+, then this little puppy makes a machine snappy without the hassle of dual drives (OS and data) etc. install the drive and software, job done!

  • Just wondering: is it possible to partition off a part of a larger SSD to use as cache so it does the same job this drive does?

  • +3

I ordered yesterday when the item was still "in stock", received an order confirmation through email and on the website. Currently still in the "Preparation in progress" status and when I just called the store I was supposed to pick it up from, they have said they do not have any stock and do not have my order (even though I can still see my order on the website). Supposedly the 9 alpha order reference means squat.

Thanks MSY, I won't be buying from you ever again.

    • May I ask which state & branch this was?

Most of the time they sell the (supposedly reserved) stock to walk-in customers as they have priority over paid/unpaid online orders (ie. screw you over). Really hate how they do that!

      • Ugh that's got me concerned about my order I'm picking up tomorrow. I was told I couldn't pick it up yesterday because the sale hadn't started yet. I got an e-mail today telling me "this item will only be on hold and at this price during the promo period"

      • You're safe. This was a WA store. Both have no stock and they didn't offer anything else or any way to better the situation.. Just a "sorry, we don't have your order and we don't have stock anyway."

    • This also happened to me. Ordered WA Cannington store on Wed. Today received e-mail that they didn't have any stock left. bummer. was looking forward to bump up my speed.

    • I got screwed aswell. Got the confirmation, called up to confirm it, fine. Got called back later and told it was the last one and it was 'damaged' so they couldn't sell it to me. What are the chances I haven't been blatantly lied too? I'm going to go in to collect my 'damaged' order, and if it's not there head office will be getting a complaint, what else can I do really. Fuming.

  • really decent upgrade for the price..

  • Same here, ordered and got confirmation yesterday and late today received email that they didn't have any stock left.

    • Same here. Would have been nice to try one and bring a bit of life back into this PC of mine

  • Can this please be marked as expired or out of stock ?

  • Installed this SSD on my pc last night. My pc boot time takes around 10 minutes as I have several apps loading plus it is a 4 year old pc. After 4 reboots, it now takes 3 minutes to boot. Very impressed with it as I didn't really want to spend lots of money for 256GB SSD.

  • Best $25 I spent in ages big bootup boost very surprised :) best thing about this dont need to reinstall OS as thats the main reason why I didt want to get a SSD drive before…

  • They have clearly just ignored the sales orders and sold them in store. This is really bad practice I feel like we should all lodge a complaint here.

    • what can you do when they ignore us? don't shop with them!
until they reliase the online users are important too!

      • I just paid the postage. Sorted.

….I assume. They said that it's posted.

    • Obviously they have given priority to those who pickup in store right away. I got confirmation and went to the store right away. in the store they just got it from a box so it does not seem they reserved it physically but just basing it on what the system says.

      • Did you get 2 emails?
        I got an email saying:

"This is an email confirmation of the order that you have placed with us.
We will be in contact with you as soon as your order is ready.
Please await further instructions and updates regarding your order."

        And nothing since….
Looks like I've been ignored. Damn.

        • Yes I got 2 emails. The second email states it has been reserved. I collected early because I was concerned they would not put my reserved product aside with order number attached to it so no one can claim it.

        • I got 2 emails aswell, but I could not get to the store on the day. I called up to make sure it was reserved, and they still sold it anyway.

        • So for future deals you'd have to buy & pick them up the same or next business day. If not, there is not a chance of getting one…

        • Or pay for delivery. Mine arrived today.
