      • -5

        ..

        • +23

guess the joke flew over your head…

    • wow, that is damn cheap for 747, but I am still looking for something like 60 inches…

      • +3

        That's right.
Missus prefers 60 inches than 50 inches.

        • +1

Once you give her 60 inches, she'll want 65 ;)

        • are we still talking about tv's……….

        • She tells me she likes the 3D better, it is more realistic.

        • Ahh someone had to say it….

      • +1

i got this, loving it so far

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/137361

  • Coupon code SAVEME11 doesn't appear to be an option in this case?
EDIT - just realised it was only for yesterday.

    Previous prices for reference:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128189 - Good Guys $747
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/130828- Costco $740

I was tempted for a second but I think I'll wait until EOFYS.

  • +1

Got this from Costco few weeks back, when it was on special @ $740. Nice LED. Highly recommended @ that price.

  • It's listed as $997 on DS's latest Sale Brochure (on sale THU 27 Mar to WED 9 Apr 2014)…

    http://catalogues.dicksmith.com.au/catalogue/dick-smith-cata…

  • the best deal for this tv so far was 740.
how come this deal is featured on ozbargain front page?

    • +1

      $740 wasnt the best price

The best was DSE $747 free shipping plus 10% off= $672.30
Also good guys went one better boxing day $747 free shipping plus $100 store credit = $647

      • 672.30 and paid with wish gift cards so got it for 638 :)

  • was less last sales.

  • +1

what is the refresh rate of the tv?

    • 50Hz.

      • -3

that's awful. kinda hope for 60Hz

        • +3

You need to move to the US for 60Hz.

        • +1

It does both 50 and 60 at 1080p.

        • Is 60hz ok to watch?

        • It hertz more than 50.

        • +1

Can anyone confirm this? I was thinking about picking this TV up and it's main use is for video games, but the 50HZ thing was holding me back. It's so hard to find good information/reviews on these Aus-Specific models.

  • +4

    yeah, 50 hurts

  • +1

This is currently available for $815.32 delivered for Sony X members

  • Whats the smart menu like, is it slow and buggie like my samsung tv?

    • Not really, I think it's all based on Opera TV.

  • Still waiting for that elusive 55 incher name brand to go for under a grand..

  • +4

I bought a KDL50W670A recently from TGG who price matched a previous Costco sale at $739.
Oh, and it was even cheaper during the boxing day sales.

This isn't really the best bargain IMHO. (But its on Lifehacker's home page)

    • I'm sure I'll get negged for the neg (44+, -1), but it's $160 more than I paid. And if you look at the above prices, people have got it much cheaper than I did. I'd say haggle a bit more.

Also, I've moved my Chromecast to my 'dumb' TV in my bedroom as the TV has some cool integration built in…

      • Miracast support (I presume, since I can cast the screen on my Nexus devices wirelessly to the TV)

      • Can send video (YouTube/Netflix etc) to the TV from my laptop and phone.

      • Other stuff I forgot to add.

Also, I'd really recommend the TV SideView app by Sony. Not only does it turn your Android device into a remote, it allows you to view TV Guide, Keyboard Entry, Virtual Touchpad, etc.

    • True. It is also cheaper in Good guys as mentioned by another user:
      http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Sony_50%22(126cm)_FHD_LED_LCD_Smart_TV_KDL50W670A

  • Using FTA as an example, it is broadcast at 50Hz..Panels with refresh rates >50Hz will use motion processing 'magic' to 'create' additional frames to increase the number of frames in the video..For example 50Hz = 50 frames/sec..lets take frames 1 and 2a 100Hz TV for example will see frames 1 and 2 and calculate what it thinks has changed/moved between frames 1 and 2 and insert a new frame with this info in-between frames 1 and 2..- So a 50Hz TV will show the broadcast 50 frames in one second as frames 1,2,3,4….50- A 100hz TV will show the broadcast 50 frames as well as 50 it has 'made up' in one second as frames 1,1a,2,2a,3,3a…..50,50aSo 1/2 the stuff you see wasn't broadcast, it was 'calculated'/'derived'It is essentially an attempt at 'smoothing' out the motion. Some people like it, some people hate it. Some think it looks smoother, some think it looks very artificial..(and many people disable motion processing on their new 100Hz/200Hz/etc LEC/LCD's removing much of the 'Hz' hype anyway)In general just because a TV is 100Hz v 50Hz does not make the 100Hz automatically better as other aspects such as colour gamut, black levels etc can all make a much larger impact on picture quality. If it looks good to your eyes showing FTA, thats all the matters… who cares if it looks better showing Avatar if you spend 99% of your time watching FTA and downloaded TV shows.
Thanks to SBOB for writing this.

I need more HZ, stuff buying a lazy TV that cannot be bothered, if there's no frames there then you make some up!

  • I bought 2 of these back in December for less than this. I think I paid around the $740 mark for each TV. More than happy with them for my bedroom and spare room. Wouldn't buy one for living room though.

  • +3

    Goodguy is $1 cheaper :)

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Sony_50%22(126cm)_FHD_LED_LCD_Smart_TV_KDL50W670A

    • Haggle with Dick Smith to go another dollar cheaper than that?
