  • Presto is Foxtel answer to Netflix etc…

  • "Presto is owned by Foxtel"

And Foxtel is part owned by News corp, hence in the Sunday Telegraph.

    • +10

And 99.9% of media in western country's is served news by news corp and its minions, you're reading, watching and hearing the same information on all sources just re arranged words and lots of flip flopping. Long live freedom of speech and democracy..yey…

    • Aha!

Explains it why it's in the Sunday telegraph!

  • +4

HD is currently not an option on Presto. All movies are streamed in standard definition (SD).

  • +1

How's the selection compare to Netflix?

    • +1

Nothing like it. If we had a Netflix equivalent here in Australia I would happily pay $20 for it but SD streaming, older movies and not a huge selection, no thanks. I will stick to the proxy loophole and watch Netflix for around $9/month AUD until something changes.

I have subscribed to Netflix for many years and is great value. However, new releases takes a long time to come out on Netflix. I have been using Presto and it is good in that they have much more recent releases than both Netflix and Quickflix.

A good combination to have is Netflix and Presto and I will be keeping both

        • Not really, there's are a number of 2013 releases on there, hell there's even a fair few I've noticed that are there the exact same time as they're released on blu-ray. Even more when you change regions to Canada or the UK.

        • That doesn't sound like quite good solution. It sounds expensive. You could complement Netflix with vudu as you need to and save some cashand probably get the movies quicker. Unless you want to watch quite a lot of new releases. Try switching regions on Netflix and you might see more of what you want.

      • I subscribe to Netflix and have for a long time, as much as I enjoy the service for what I pay, it's not what everyone beats it up to be.
At the end of the day, if you want real new release movies, Netflix or Presto are not for you, if you don't believe me, just take a look on their respective sites for the latest release movies and see how many you find!

        • I agree with that, but still watch about 50% of everything on Netflix. It's the breadth and ease of selection that you party for. Then you download or navi-x / ice films the rest. Worst case scenario is vudu. All up, will not be paying Aussie prices for worse services.

Dont even consider it and just get Netflix (10 000 movies). First thing is to get a dynamic vpn. Bit of a guide on http://www.Unblocking.tv

I wonder why so many OzBargainers are negging your helpful information?

I gave you a + to help out.

        • Yeah, well they can take it or leave it. Thanks.

    • +1

Crap selection, no HD. Way worse than Netflix (particularly if your unblocking solution of choice lets you change Netflix regions to get an even bigger selection)

  • +3

$20/month is way too much. There are far better options, they are a lot cheaper AND offer the first month free.

  • +2

No TV series. No HD. More expensive. FAIL

  • Is it still piracy if you buy the SD movie on presto, then download a HD torrent of the same movie?

    • Is it still piracy if you buy the SD movie on presto, then download a HD torrent of the same movie?

      Yes.

      • -2

Why? Aren't you paying for a license to view that particular show/movie?

Downloading movies is illegal because you didn't pay for the license to view that film.

        • Not sure why you got down voted - no problem with asking!! I would think the license from a streaming service would be quite specific to that source. I think it would explicitly exclude downloading (rather than streaming) from that source, even, let alone obtaining the movie from a different source.

  • I've got a QuickFlix account for rental DVD's which costs me $22.99pm.

    Is this a realistic alternative?

I also have Netflix but they take for ever to get new release DVD's so are not a replacement for Quickflix.

Get Amazon Prime or Netflix instead. Prime costs USD$99 and Netflix is USD$95. You'll need a DNS redirection service like Unotelly.com for USD$48.

Depending on what your credit card AUS/USD rate is, this is approximately AUD$160 a year. Plus, the range of content on Amazon Prime/Netflix put Presto/Quickflix to shame.

If you're dubious as to whether it works and want to test it with your media centre/Xbox/PlayStation/AppleTV/iPad, the first month of Amazon Prime/Netflix is free. Unotelly.com has an 8 day free trial.

  • +1

limited movie selection and prices like this is what is causeing so much piracy.
bring netflix Hulu and Amazon prime to Australia and not charge crazy prices and watch how much piricy will go down. it will never dissapear but it will certainly decrease alot.

till then ill stick with getflix DNS subscription and netflix.

one day they will learn not to be greedy with the australian people.

You know, this deal is great, provided you cancel it and just use up the 1 month at $5 and pay nothing more, why not give it a go?

    • netflix is free for first month and just 9aud after
