This morning we pushed out a new user-submitted referral changes. This is an update to the previous attempt in 2012. Problem with the previous one is that it's difficult to add new stores that support referral benefits, and the feature ended up only supporting GreenManGaming and not being used much by our users here. What happened afterwards were wiki pages created for each online shop. Yes it's an interesting use of the wiki pages, but

  • Not a good idea to let any member to be able to edit everyone's code.
  • Free-form might not be the most ideal format, and hard to police everyone to edit in the same format.
  • The list is ordered rather than randomised.

What we have done now is having a single place for you to put in all your referral codes. Go to your Settings page and click on the referrals tab. You should be presented with a list of "stores" that we currently have referral support. For the comprehensive list of stores / products supported, please go to the referral wiki page.

New ones should be easily added as well if the method of referral is via a referral link (i.e. unique URL per referrer). Feel free to submit new ones in the comments. I need

  • The URL format for the referral link
  • Instructions to get the referral link
  • Benefit for the referrers and referees.

Another reminder that Affiliate Links and Referral Links are different and we do not allow affiliate links here on OzBargain.

Once a referral system has been set up for that domain, for every deal posted to that domain, a grey box will appear below the content and above the Share buttons containing a randomised referral link AND OP's referral link (if OP has submitted one for that domain and the deal has hit the front page vote minimum - updated 9/5/16). The benefits for the referrers and referees are also shown so people know what they (and you) are getting. For example this Amaysim offer I submitted. In this case including your own referral link and link to wiki becomes redundant.

Yes this is still in beta and needs improvement. Some potential issues / possible improvements:

  • Since you do not really need to put referral link in your content, you can submit deals with your link in the referral box without the deal being marked as "referral post". This might lead to abuse of people posting excessive deals from the stores offering referral. I shall look at ways to prevent it. I don't want to mark them as referral post at the moment because previously submitter can pick and choose whether to include his/her referral link. Now it's always included. 9/5/16 Update: Your deal must hit the front page vote minimum (currently 30) to show. This was previously 5, before being changed to the front page vote minimum.

  • Referral-code / coupon-code type referrals are not yet supported. For example Budget Direct, Rabobank, etc. We can potentially generate a popup containing the code when people click on "OP" or "random".

  • A good idea to let people pick and choose? For example some people might not want to use OP's referral link, not a random one either but from a list of friends.

So here it is. Give it a try guys! I will start removing some of the wiki pages later today. Meanwhile, please leave feedback in the comments.

              The referral code appears to be based off your email address that you provide when generating the link. If you entered [email protected], your referral code will most likely be http://petpostau.refr.cc/reanukeeves.

              Or it may also use your real name if you entered it in the (Optional) field.

              You can also change your referral link to something else if you do not wish to expose the first part of your email address. Login to the referral candy site http://petpostau.referralcandy.com/ and then click "Change Link" at the bottom of the page after you've set a password. You can remove 'reanukeeves' and enter a custom code.

    For this code I've selected 10% commission fees, which means referrer gets 10% of fees, referee gets 10% of fees (equal split, can be 20/0, 15/5 or 10/10).

    Just drop the referral code in when signing up, its applied on each transaction, I'm unsure if there's a cap or timelimit.

    For current binance owners its under your account icon in the top right corner, named 'Referral' in the dropdown menu.

    Only launched today but its $200 cash for referrer and referee once 2000 in transactions are made. Bit niche as it is biz bank account but a good deal given that a lot of biz bank accounts have fees wh ereas this is free

    Just wondering, I used to have a whole heap of referrals set up on my profile. I just went to check now to add another one and found that all my previous entries are gone (I haven't checked in ages). Was there a sitewide purge or something?

      No.

      All stores have a maximum of 365 days before the codes/links expire. On expiration, you will receive a notification from OzBargain (bell menu) to enter codes/links again.

        Ahh I see, is it possible to get an email reminder instead of the bell notification? I don't use the bell notification because I have too many of them for comments.

          I think we are pushing towards website notifications more and less on email notifications. Also, we want referrals to benefit those who are active on the site and not those who just come in to update their referral codes.

    Merged from Referrals to Future Broadband in OzBargain / Can Someone Refer Me?

    The OzBargain referral system doesn't currently show Future Broadband as a referral system; essentially, I'd like to be referred to Future Broadband for the benefits at https://futurebroadband.com.au/refer/ for referrer and for me (selfish, I know).

    Mods: I know the rules at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin… say someone should not solicit referrals but I'm seeking to be referred rather than posting my own referral or affiliate links, which is what the rules seem to refer to.

    Not currently being a Future customer, I don't know the specifics of the referral program but the unique, one-time code approach wouldn't work in OzB but "Re-usable Referral ShortCodes" seem addable.

    So, can I either a) be referred by someone and/or b) Future Broadband be added to the referral system.

    The way it works is simple, they give $1 per friend that registers (using the referral link), then give a further $1 for each of the first 19 surveys the friend completes.

    I have just posted this referral opportunity in the hope it will be added to the Ozbargain referrals page.

    There's an extra step that you have to take after signing in so that you can get your referral link. You must first select a minimum of 3 categories (Travel, Food and Drink etc) as your favourites from the categories page. This is done by clicking on the heart in the top right corner of a category.
    Only once you have done this will you have access to the referral link which can be found by clicking on the "Refer a Friend" tag.

    They are not very generous. The referrer will get $5 but the referred person does not receive any benefit.

    The $5 is only issued to the referrer if the first purchase of the referred person is over $20 after discounts have been considered.

    Shopback has changed it's referral structure. All codes marked expired and everyone notified. Some of you may have received 2 notifications (and code removed twice) as the store didn't have an expiry and was set to 365 last night. It was then discovered the structure and codes were different.

      Not changed, they just have a difficult referral system. As per the instructions:

      2 Methods:

      • Open the ShopBack app to obtain your referral code. Manually type in the Referral Code you see on screen in the app (6 characters).
      • Open the Referral Page on Shopback's site and click the https://app.shopback.com/ link which will unshorten to https://www.shopback.com.au/signup-referred?raf=[CODE] . Copy the CODE in the final URL.

      Do not use the code on the app.shopback.com URL as that code changes and is not your actual referral code.

    In regards to Nuts About Life referral, information is misleading.
    There is no $10 credits given to referer and referee. Both instead just get a targeted $10 discount code that can't be combined with another public discount codes (e.g. FREESHIP that gives free shipping on orders over $100).
    I have referred two people and got two different $10 vouchers - not credits, and they also can't be combined.

        On the referrals page, it just doesn't allow the expand/collapse of the arrows. All expanded ones can't be collapsed, and all collapsed can't be expandeed.

        It appears to be a browser issue, as it works fine in Edge, but not in Chrome Version 86.0.4240.42 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) I don't have any extensions on Chrome.

    I received a notification saying my referral code for "Beem It" has expired. I went to put it back (the field is now empty), but when I add my code and click Save it gives "Error: This referral code is already in the system".

    Not that I think Beem It is running a referral program right now, so it's probably sub-zero in terms of priority, but maybe something to look into in case it's a problem in other areas? (E.g. is a condition of expiry that the code must be different each time, and is that always the case?)

      I can confirm that there is a user with the same code as you. Whether they entered it wrong or some other reason, is not known. I've checked Beem It and they don't have a referral program active so I've disabled it from now.
