  • I use this currently, but honestly don't know if it really does anything.
I paid about $3-4 at Big-W for it 4months ago, but swear 98 parts water to 2 parts dishwashing liquid cleans noticeably better.

Dishwashing liquid will strip wax off your paintwork and break down windscreen rubbers, you should use something formulated for car windscreens.

I've been using Bars Bugs as long as I can remember and never had a problem with it cleaning windscreens unless the bugs are dried out and baked on, I usually will give it a squirt if I see anything on the windaheild before it gets the chance to dry out.

      • There is not a lot of science behind bar bugs. Just good old ammonia. This will strip off wax just as well as any dish washing liquid. There are some better companies out there which offer alternatives. However, I have never bother. I just use some decent car wash and ONR instead.

        • ONR?

        • optimum no rinse

"I just use some decent car wash"

+1, just use some of whatever car wash you use

Another idea is to have a setup like the servos use at home next to where you park your car, least you'll know it hasn't been used to wash fuel spills etc

    • A simple but good idea.

This Drive review, suggests the Castrol product is cheaper (per use) and better: http://www.drive.com.au/editorial/articledetail.aspx?Article…

    • That review is from 2005 and all the products are from SCA bar one. But some comparison information is better than none, so I'm gonna give the Castrol a go (and then maybe the Trico mentioned below).

      • The Castrol wasn't at my local Repco, but was at Autobarn. Turns out the Castrol has ammonia in it as well. So looks like I'll give the Trico version a go.

mix this with distilled water to avoid horrid water spots that comes from tap water and gets etched into your paint/glass.

  • I used this and it was very bad quality. Back to the proper bug off.

Repco has the Trico vision stuff 5L for $15 from memory, ammonia free.

Just an fyi here, these stuff will probably not clean the bugs on your windscreen 100%, they are not really meant for that job. They are more for lowering freezing temperature of water so the pump dont eff up on cold days, and also keeping bacteria growth in the reservoir at the minimum for they can enter the cabin when you use the wiper sprays with your windows down.
