    Does this support adobe flash?

    • I think it should… These normally come with Flash preinstalled or.. you can install the apk file..

    • if you look on the site, it states under specs: supports Adobe Flash 11

    • Hi,

Yes, it supports Adobe Flash 11.

    Networking:WiFi 802.11b/g/n 10/100Mbps With internal Antenna

Umm, what is that ? Cabled Ethernet is 10/100.

    • supports a USB eithernet ADAPTER.

  • anyone have any experience with beyond XBMC?

    • What is beyond XBMC anyway? I had heard of XBMC, but beyond XBMC?

      • +2

I just googled it, you should too.

      • Thanks for the reply. I wonder if it supports XBMC as well?

        • +1

it IS XBMC, thats the point - it is a version specially compiled to make best use of the hardware acceleration on these RK3188 devices

  • So this plays back 1080p movies through xbmc just fine?

    • Hi,
Yes, it can playback 1080p movies through xbmc very well.

  • Anyone know the brand or manufacturer of these?

    • Hi,

      It is OEM.

  • I wonder how xbmc playback on this compares to a raspberry pi with openelec.

My expectation would be that it'd run very smoothly, considering it's a quad-core Mali400.

I've got an old tablet lying around somewhere with a single core Mali400, which outputted 1080p with ease. Never had problems with codecs.

  • Hi Rep,

Does it have full web browsing capability?

    Thanks.

    • Of course, it's an android machine with a small form factor. Lacks a screen and battery, but still does all the expected functions.

    • Use Dolphin Browser… Just enable "Flash Content" from Settings, and install Desktop Toggle Add on, and you have a full fledged browser :)

    • Hi,

Yes, it has full web browsing capability like a computer.

      Thanks

  • I recently purchased a similar device - MK908ii. It works well, but won't load some apps from google play AppStore (device not supported), and 3 different web browsers won't play the streaming video I want (live football streaming from an AFL site). Perhaps I'm spoilt because I'm used to iOS and things just working (except flash obviously).

These devices are a great concept - but until they can work straight out of the box then they won't reach mass market appeal - and I don't see that happening with Android.

For the record I also have a chromecast. This is also a great device in theory - but the supported apps for it at the moment are so limited.

I probably would have been better off stumping up for an appleTV - and if they come out with a dongle version I probably will (and put everything else back on eBay).

    (/end life story).

Did you try dolphin browser? Another option is to use a player like VLC that specifically handles streams, rather than a browser

    • Hi,

Your problem can be solved by custom rom: http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php/2014/03/31/rom-download…

      • Thanks Rep - I have downloaded some custom roms so will give it a go… but further illustrates my point that these things will never become mainstream unless they work out of the box.
Reading through freaktab.com forums there is debate that the custom roms are worth the trouble with reports of flickering etc. I'm pretty good technically so will give it a go.

@mycosys: I've not tried dolphin browser but will give it a go. I'm somewhat surprised that chrome & firefox don't work.

        • Use Dolphin Browser… Just enable "Flash Content" from Settings->Content, and install Desktop Toggle Add on. I find it much better than Chrome and Firefox etc. It also supports the extensions like LastPass etc.

        • Sometimes you also need to download and install flash from the adobe archive.

  • How can I navigate through UI?
Should i buy Mele F10-PRO 2.4GHz Air Mouse Wireless Keyboard

    • dont waste your money. just buy a normal wireless mouse. you coudl find one for under $20 at MSY or woolworths or centrecom.. if you plug in a usb mouse it would work also. I have a MK808B and mouse does everything. it has an onscreen keyboard, bu tyou can attach a wireless keyboard also.

    • Yes, either use a bluetooth airmouse or keyboard with touchpad, or just a bluetooth touchpad like the logitech touchpad for mac that is going for about $30, or use a usb wireless remote with direction keys, or a usb wireless kb with trackpad or trackball, they all work tho using usb is a bit more hassle - using a mouse sucks

but yes - that airmouse looks like one of the best i have ever seen

    • I have a Logitech K400r, easy, compact and does the job.

  • Just to add, I bought same device from ebay year ago and it works great, I mostly use it for watching movies, youtube, Just a piece of advice though, just stick with stock rom, I've tried many custom roms and stock rom is the best so far.

If it only had a headphone plug (analog line out) so you could use it with a monitor and speakers it would be utterly pefect

    • You can still attach it with monitor like Dell UltraSharp 2414H or similar Monitor which has Audio out port and add a sound bar(Dell AX510)/Speaker/Headphone to it. So the monitor get the sound over HDMI and out through Audio as analog signal.

  • This might be cheapest but not best.
Processor is rk3188t where t =throttled. So it's slow processor.
Another problem is WiFi u need it very close to your router or buy ether the Ethernet adapter
If u want best experience u probably wanna buy 2 amp charger as these units often crash due to lack of power.
. You need powered USB if u wanna watch movies locally.
    XBMC is hit and miss.
I use it for online streaming so that is good but with full hd content it's not as good.
Rk remote app for android is good remote control. And u can play some games too.

Regarding room support I am not fully sure that other finless roms r compatible as it has new chip whereas the roms are based on rk3188 .

  • I bought this exact one a few weeks back for $59,I have xbmc installed on it,the thing runs very well.
    No complaints.

  • Good price for a good unit

  • I bought the mk908ii from geekbuying (similar device to this but $10 more) because xbmc was a pain to use on my atv2. It arrived on Monday. I found I had to update to finless 1.6 because of choppy video, so you might have to do that with this. I knew nothing about android gear and don't own any windows machines, i' m mac all the way. I had to update via parallels on a mac (not for the feint hearted). I also installed Beyond Xbmc. It's fantastic. The setup has as smooth as butter video and has excellent wifi. Matched with a logitech k400r keyboard i couldn't be happier with the setup.

OP, how does this unit compare to the mk908ii?

  • The main difference between mk809iii and mk980ii is on the antenna. MK980ii has an External antenna. I think the different is very minor.

  • Can this run Plex from Google play?

  • +1

    Hi,

    Yes, it can run Plex.

  • If this unit is similar to mine and it came with beyond xbmc AND finless 1.6 pre installed i'd buy 5 more to give to friends and family. The choppy video of the off the shelf unit is the drawback and installing finless from parallels on a mac is a nightmare. For windows users it might be a different story.

  • I'm interested in an android box with optical SPDIF, like the CS918S - http://www.geekbuying.com/item/CS918S-Allwinner-A31-Quad-Cor…

how does it compare to the MK908III please?

    • Hi,

CS918S has built in XBMC and runs smoothly.

      Thanks

      • Hi,

thanks for the reply - I've done quite a lot of internet research on the CS918 and I'm interested in buying one - any chance of a special price for the CS918 (the RK3188 chipset, not the Allwinner chipset) please?

        Thank you.

  • Before I buy this can someone confirm if this can install apps onto SD card and NTFS support is available for hard drives etc?

    Thanks.

    • Hi,

This MK908iii can install apps onto SD card and NTFS support is available for hard drives.

      Thanks

      • So you also mean the 809iii as well then?

  • This MK908iii can install apps onto SD card and NTFS support is available for hard drives.

    MK908iii or MK809iii (which you're advertising here)?

    • Sorry, my mistake. The deal should be mk809iii.

  • I'm gonna buy this and then get a DVI to HDMI convertor to plug the google tv into a spare 21" monitor (which only has DVI input), and then use bluetooth in the Google tv box to reroute the audio to BT wireless headphones or BT speakers and have full streaming internet tv + my movies (from PC server) available. Its a handy solution for small setups in bedrooms/kitchen etc, without the need for too much peripherpals and space.

  • Ordered… hopefully it all works out well. Would like this to be a portable PC as well for work. Saves me lugging around stuff if I can do presentations via the TV.

  • Also to the store rep, was wondering does your website have any public ratings available online?
Where abouts do these items come from? (what would be estimated delivery to brisbane)
This one looks pretty good too, would the external antenna give it better coverage? (this one has mic and cam in it aswell for anyone into some funky stuff in front of their TV)

You guys have some wicked looking deals under the clearance section!

  • Found an answer to my own question, 5-11 days business days for AU.
    http://www.geekbuying.com/help/payment_and_shipping/shipping…

  • I am still waiting for shipping confirmation :((( Very slow!!!

  • arrived and working fine. be sure to use its own power supply.

    • gone dead & will not update per website.. not worth returning (as suggested) due to post charges and six weeks wait.

      • Install cfw, use the windows program to do it. Make sure that you use the external power supply not just hdmi. Especially if using 1080p.

  • Arrived but still trying to work out how to use my tablet as a remote..

  • -_- now my wifi is not working…
