  • Great app, integrates into IE and Chrome and iPhone pretty nice

Out of curiosity, what is it about onepassword that's unique? I've seen free alternatives such as lastpass which seem to do a great job

    • +2

Just companies using the opportunity to sell their products.

    • 1password doesn't send your logins back to a server where they could be compromised. They are managed on your machine and encrypted with a password you set.

      • +1

Well apparently lastpass uses only encrypted information:

All sensitive data is encrypted and decrypted locally before syncing with LastPass. Your key never leaves your device, and is never shared with LastPass. Your data stays accessible only to you.

But is that the only difference?

        • LastPass has got a nice feature if you have Vas, you can share with them logins without exposing the credentials.

I use 1Password for personal usage and LastPass for work usage.

My understanding is, 1Password I think is supported on more platforms than last pass, so it's a lot more convenient than lastpass.

Lastpass is free for desktop but $1 per month for premium which allows tablet/phone integration. Works on PC, Mac, ios and android so integration isn't an issue.

          I rate it highly.

        • You can also log in to LP through your browser, instead of the LP app on your phone.

      • This is what I like most about 1Password, and why I use it over the alternatives.

The encrypted file lives on my computer, and I have total control over where it goes. It doesn't have to go on the cloud at all if you don't want it to.

I do sync my file with Dropbox, because that's super convenient. But even that is a choice.

        Great software. Highly recommended.

Always free for Android devices - 1password

    • the android one is a read only client, which for a phone suits most purposes but can be a little irritating that you can't update details in it

Heartbleed Sale? Exploitative nonsense; why aren't they just having a Royal Tour Sale?
No mention of SSL on their website, just "openly published design" (not openly published algorithms), whatever that claptrap is.

  • i was finding it difficult to spend the $23 odd for this software earlier as i already had purchased the old version 3 software. having it at 50% off makes it a lot more "palatable" and glad i ummed and ahhd about the huge price

    • Same here. Still happily using v3 though…

  • so which one is recommended for sync between 2 android phones + 1 W8 tablet + 1 RT tablet … I would like to sync/backup to OneDrive too.

edit: I have the android msecure installed (from previous Amazon deal) but have not started putting in details.

    • i don't think 1password supports windows RT

  • I was trying to weigh up Lastpass vs 1password.

    1password:
$34.99 USD for Windows and Mac
$10.99 AUD on iTunes for the iPhone app

Does anyone know how the updates work for 1password?
Are you entitled to all updates released or do you have to buy the next version?

This would be a good option that you could sync your encrypted password file to your own NAS or storage device if you have one and setup a secure VPN to your own network to access the file.

    Lastpass:
$12 USD a year for Windows, Mac, iPhone app.
You are entitled to all the updates released while you have your license.

This syncs to Lastpass servers but is encrypted according to their documentation.

    • You must pay for the newer versions

I use last pass. Best. Free

      • Does anyone know how the updates work for 1password?
Are you entitled to all updates released or do you have to buy the next version?

You need to pay for each platform and pay to upgrade to the next version.

I bought it when it was on sale a couple weeks ago, nice interface but I think that it's only advantage. Also annoying that you have to use dropbox or icloud to sync to other devices when Lastpass does it automatically. Thinking to ask for a refund with their 30 day back guarantee as I don't plan to buy the newer version.

It seems that the discount code from this post still works:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/138409

The discount is from $5 to $10 USD depending on the product (20% off on the already discounted prices).

    • Thanks! It still works.

  • 1Password for iOS
$22.99 > $10.99 (AUD) (Previous price is based off Google)

or you know, just use AppShopper.

Last lowest price of $9.99 was on 17 September 2013 so in a way you're paying a $1 premium (over the lowest possible price).

  • A good alternative I've found to both 1Password & Lastpass is Dashlane. I've been a long time user of LP but their implementation of website logins was a bit buggy and frustrating when there were multiple logins. Dashlane works on windows & mac (no linux unfortunately) and mobile platforms (premium version). Premium is US$29.99/year which allows unlimited devices.

  • I needed 2 licenses and I bought a bundle pack family license (5 users) for only $39.99 with the MACPOWERUSERS coupon, a better bargain compared to purchasing 2 licenses through the educational store ($41)! Thanks OP!
