  • its AUD 799 thats a bargain for unlocked one + 15.90 for postage … doesnt say anything about the warranty though !!

but it does say "Feel free to call 0404 51 00 66 if you need to know more".

  • It's quite easy to software unlock. I "should" be getting mine tomorrow - an unlocked one. I will post back to tell you how it goes. I'm on optus.

  • yeah !! do let us know .. how it goes with all the warranty and stuff !! cheers

  • Search for anySIM on Google for the open sourced GUI unlocking app. Next day delivery — they must have bought lots from Apple/AT&T.

This also came out from Apple today:

"Apple has discovered that many of the unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs available on the Internet cause irreparable damage to the iPhone's software, which will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed."

Basically it is saying, don't cry to Apple when your unlocked iPhone breaks. All the best! :)

    • Scotty -good point to bring up. However unless the software is automatically updated, then it would be wise not to update the software until others find out if it "breaks" it. Generally a good idea with any software update on any system. Let someone else find out the pain.

  • Hey Scotty - I read that earlier today.

    However I also read that if Apple actually release a firmware update that actually causes your iPhone to stop functioning, there could be possible legal implications;

The fact that Apple releases software which stops an otherwise 100% functional phone, means that they intentionally cause it to malfunction - and that opens the door for possible legal consequences.

It's a long shot - but a possibility for those who get into a situation where apple will not support you in fixing your phone.

We'll see how it all pans out ey.
    :)

  • They have apparently changed the price. Now you get:

    • iPhone 8GB Locked & Refurbished — $640
    • iPhone 8GB Locked — $680
    • iPhone 8GB Unlocked — $800

I think it is still good idea to get the locked version and unlock it yourself, so that you'll know how to re-lock it before the firmware update.

  • I have received my iPhone and am now using it on the Optus network.
    kekekekekekeke

    :P

  • hey thats awesome !! good on ya

  • By all means, DO NOT UPGRADE FIRMWARE TO 1.1.1

The "bricking news" is all over the web this morning.

  • Oooohhh… Thanks for the heads up Scotty!!!

Looks like the hackers will be having fun this weekend.

  • I have a nose for a bargain!
These guys are palming off refurb iphones as new ones. I don't think they offer any warranty from what I can see.
I brought mine from www.nobetaplace.com and they offer 12 month warranty. I paid a bit more but got free
    accessories and warranty.
Very happy. Got letter with purchase advising customers to turn off auto update to stop relocking.

    • Sure. I guess you want to promote nobetaplace.com so much because you happen to be the owner?

VoiTech clearly marked some to be refurbished and they are cheaper than the ones that aren't. There are many on WP forums that have bought from them and were happy with what they have got.
