  • Wow, was just looking at your site today thinking of getting These o-rings… Can you do a deal? :D

    • +4

I seem to remember you asking about these the other day? :P I've taken $7 off it.

      • Yep, that was me. Thanks a lot man, ordering now.

      • +2

Just a note to potential buyers - If you're on the fence because you can't decide which type of keys/switches to get; definitely score the Deck Cherry MX Sampler kit for $11.50 (inc. postage to 5000) because it will give you a good idea of the switches you will end up buying.

After getting one of them from the first mechkb.com deal, i bought a mechanical keyboard a week later (unfortunately not from mechkb, as they didn't have the one i was after) because i knew the kind of switches i wanted immediately, when before i couldn't decide. It's very hard to tell what kind of switches you'd like without trying them. Well worth the investment before you're going on to spend $120+ on a keyboard.

      • Are all o-rings the same? I'm looking to get some for my Filco Blue Switch TKL. Thanks

        • O-rings are made of rubber of differing stiffness and elasticity but dimensionally, they are all the same.

  • hey Roland
Keenly awaiting Coolermaster's 30gram Topre uniform switch keyboards here. Hoping you'll carry 'em when they arrive. I hear Q2 or Q3 2014.

    • Heh. Let's see what Topre says.

Here's the CM lineup from the recent CES show.

CM now taking on Duckeh with two TKL boards with various light schemes (breathing, light fade etc)
Comes in normal print and side print (ninjas)

There's the Novatouch TKL which is the Topre switch board. Guy starts discussing it at 2:10
I buy fullsize boards only which mean it could be next year before they bring out the fullsize Novatouch. Cest la vie I guess.

      • +1

CM is moving into the Topre field and we can't wait to see their Novatouch board.

Their Ninja backlit TKL also looks interesting. I just hope the LEDs aren't prone to failure (I say that because a lot of boards, including some Duckys, seem to have been suffering from this lately.)

  • Was asking board which is comparable to Ducky Zero, guess I will get the leopold then.

    • Indeed, very similar keyboards :)

      • Just put an order, went to paypal, confirmed, and directed back to your site, with no acknowledgement what so ever, did you get the order through for Leopold brown switch, just now?

        • Hrm, I don't think we got the order, did you get to an order review page on our site (may take a little while to appear). Can you check your Paypal to see if you got charged, if you did, PM me your transaction ID?

        • Never mind the 2nd round it went through, funny though the first time, from paypal bounce it back to your index homepage, not the the order review, using chrome

        • Hmm, maybe just the effect of the traffic spike. Apologies for the inconvenience.

  • Any with o-rings already applied? :)

Also, no discount on the Leopold 10-key-less?

    • The Logitech G710+ and the Das Keyboard Silent editions have O-rings already installed… Let me check with my manager if we can put one on sale for you.

And, sorry, no discounts on the Leopold FC700R, stock shortage :(

    • +1

      Ok, Logitech G710+ at $129 :)

  • Anything comparable with the DAS Keyboard Cherry Blue Unlabeled?

    • Do you mean something with blank keys?

      • yup

  • I've wanted to buy a mechanical keyboard but unsure which switches to get.
Any deals on the cherry MX sampler?

    • +1

Heh, limited on what I can do with the sampler but I can take $1.50 off. Sorry about the shipping, it's just slightly too bulky to be shipped via non-parcel methods :(

      • Every little bit counts, cheers!

    • Here's a guide. Everyone's preferences are different though. http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide

  • +2

    Gonna buy one.

    • Look forward to it! :)

  • I missed out on your last sale and I'm quite interested in this one!

Have you got something with a similar layout to my current keyboard? See this image. The main things I'm looking for

    • qwerty layout
    • USB
    • 60% keyboard
    • Mechanical: Brown or red proffered
    • No function keys but Fn keys hidden in the numbers
    • A large backspace key
    • Rick click/context key
    • Home and end keys
    • Arrow keys
    • +1

      Hello Callison,

Sadly, as you will note, both the 60% layouts which have arrow clusters do not have large backspace keys or dedicated Home/End keys. I've been on the lookout for a keyboard like the one you've described myself. So, I would know :P

Mostly, there's two options, either learn to use FN+WASD combo of the Poker II or learn the smaller backspace of the Pure Pro / Filco Minila. Not ideal, I know. With the Pure, you can also remap the larger delete key below the backspace into the backspace key if you desire (key remapping is a built-in feature of the board.)

The only other alternative I can think of is the Leopold FC660, we don't currently stock this keyboard but we'll be looking into stocking some in the future, starting with the Topre switched variant.

      • Hey Rep, cheers for the reply!

Arrow keys hidden under the WASD? That's beautiful and I think I'd learn to use that feature effectively. What's the purpose of the Pn next to the Fn key on the right side of the keyboard? Can it be remapped into a context menu/right click key?

        • +1

The Pn key is used in the key programming / remapping functionality and, sadly, it's about the only key that cannot be programmed. I'm not sure about the context key, you may need remapping software to do that for you.

      • The only other alternative I can think of is the Leopold FC660, we don't currently stock this keyboard but we'll be looking into stocking some in the future, starting with the Topre switched variant.

Any ideas on the pricing for it?

        • Hard to say until it's landed. The FC660C will not be cheap, and we haven't yet being offered the other (Cherry MX switched) models yet.

        • Bit the bullet and spent $144 on a keyboard (when including shipping). Hopefully it'll serve me well.

        • +2

I was apprehensive when i dropped $165 on a mechanical keyboard, but after using it i'm never turning back!

        • Thanks for the heads up. I've been looking at mechanical keyboard for a while. My current rubber dome keyboard has lasted me many years without failure so I'll be pretty annoyed if this doesn't live up to its expectations.

  • Any keyboards mac compatible or able to swap out for mac keys? Not sure how it all works!

    • The Das Keyboard MAC edition is, AFAIK, out of stock.

MAC has a pretty intuitive detection system that will properly assign most of the keys although there are some keys that have some difficulty (such as multimedia keys). The Deck keyboards and most 60% Vortex keyboards (which are on sale), have the ability to reassign keys on the keyboard itself which should fix up most of the issues you would have.

I have a colleague with a MAC who is in today and will also be in on Wednesday, if you let me know or drop me a PM on which keyboard you are looking for, I could see if I can test it for you?

  • Do you have the Filco Minila Air with Blue MX Switches in stock? I could drop by this weekend and grab it at your Silverwater location if you have any available.

    • Hello lucksmith,

As it happens we do have the Minila air with Blue switches in stock. We do not generally open on the weekend (esp. this being a long weekend). If you could pickup during on a work day, that'll be preferred (we can stay later if you would like) or we can ship it to your work place (shipping within Sydney is pretty reasonable).

If you really cannot make it during work days, you can drop us an e-mail, [email protected] and we might be able to arrange for a member of staff to be present.

      • For how long will you be having these prices for? If you have some of the other keyboards in stock, I wouldn't mind dropping by and having a look to see if there are other items I might be interested in. I'll try to drop by this Friday. If I won't be able to, I'll just opt for the delivery option. Thanks!

        • These prices will be valid until next Tuesday, and we have plenty of Keyboards in stock :)

This Friday is a public holiday :P If you can organise a specific time, I'll see if someone can be in the office?

  • hi Roland,
can you do any deal on cm quickfire tk? looking at the red switch.
    thanks.

    • We've added the Quickfire TK, I'm trying to locate the Cherry MX Red. We're suppose to have one or two tucked away somewhere but I cannot located atm. :(

      • do u guys open this friday? if yes, i might drop in to check out the brown one, you guys still got stock for brown?

        • +1

Yes, plenty of Cherry Browns in stock. We are not currently planning to open on Friday but if we get a few inquiries we might organise a time. Do you want to drop an e-mail to [email protected] just so we have a record of your interest?

  • Ooo, the corsair K70 looks great
    Any deals on it?!

    • $149 :) Sadly I cannot reduce the price on the Cherry Brown variants. Very rare and expensive to get a hold of :( .

      • nooooooooooooooo :(

      • That's a shame. So the Browns are usually $165? Since I can't see them on the site, or in the dropdown selection, I assume you took them off the page for the sake of the promotion? Just wondering, is all.

Cheers for the good communication anyway, rep.

        • Browns are normally $175, it's disappeared as an option because the last few we had in stock were purchased :P

    • I have a Corsair K70 MX Cherry Blue after being recommended by another OzB user. They look fantastic, have a great build quality and are a pleasure to type on.

It's on the higher end of the scale in terms of price at around $165, but it's great especially if you don't want any of that gaming nonsense and just a quality board (not that there's anything wrong with gaming nonsense).

Rep - As a side note, why are they hard to get a hold of?

      • +1

Combination of Cherry switch shortage and successive batches having problems with LED failures and being recalled. Thankfully, we haven't run into any problem LED batches but the news out of other regions has been less kind for Corsair.

  • What's the time slot for pickup?

    • We open Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm excl. public holidays but we can accommodate for pickups outside of these hours with prior arrangement. Please e-mail [email protected] so to register your interest.

      • Can I walk in to buy the Deck Cherry MX Sampler Kit tomorrow at around 10am?

        • Sure :) We'll be around. Keep our number handy in case you have problems finding us. (It's not the easiest place to find.)

  • I have a Topre 104u. Do the O-rings benefit me at all, and are the compatible or only for cherry's?

    • Hello commandershephard,

I believe the O-rings are physically incompatible with the Topre stems. I will double check for you tomorrow.

    • Nope, doesn't fit. Sorry. There are some landing pad mods available for Topre switches although I can't think of a guide off the top of my head.

  • Ordered last Tuesday, only just got it today with 1-3 day shipping. I guess the Easter break is to blame for that.

    • +1

Hrm, what shipping method did you chose? Can you drop me the last four digits of your order number (Via PM if you like). I'd like to look into this. Tuesday orders should be dispatched Tuesday or Wednesday and should arrive by Thursday for most of the services that we use…
