  • For the oldies among us, how does this compare in output to to an incandescent lamp?
    Equal to 40W, 60W, 80W ?

    • +1

      Usually compare like this

      1W LED=15W incandescent
      3W LED=25W incandescent
      4W LED=40W incandescent
      8W LED=75W incandescent
      12W LED=100W incandescent

    • +1

Generally 12lumen per watt for a traditional bulb so this would be equivalent to a 40W incansescent.

      • Thanks. So these are pretty useless, not very bright.

  • i have a 10W led bulb which can light up a 8.5mx5.5m room with a brightness of 18W bulb

    • what

Hi Rep. Any specials on 10 - 12 watt ball type bulbs? I've bought a few of the lower watt ones but find them not bright enough to use.

    • "ball type"

      • Sounds right: he gets 10-12 "Wot's" every time.

      • +1

They are classified as "Ball Bulbs" nested under "LED Bulbs" on their web site.

  • Guys? I have used a couple of LED bulbs in the past and have used them with the normal bayonet fittings, and after a couple of days use, they exploded. What am I doing wrong ? Do I need some sort of transformer ?

    • +6

It's completely normal when you buy generic unbranded rubbish like what's advertised here.

    • +1

Speaking from EXPERIENCE (rather than an unpleasant orifice) and as a trained electrotech, this is NOT normal. The most likely reason is that you have been delivered 110v equipment. The only other reason I can think of is that your light fittings are tiny, completely enclosed and have no bare metal to allow the LEDs to cool (if you were using more than a couple of watts).
We have them all over the house in fittings going back to the 60s (enclosed globes with a metal lid which acts as a radiator for them) and haven't lost a single globe, other than one pair of incredibly cheap ones from buyincoins that didn't last a day but were so cheap i didn't even bother with.
We have LEDS from MyLED that cost a buck each running strong used over 12h a day, and $2 Units from Merimobiles that were used 24/7 for months without issue. I have 5 globes behind the TV alone (colour spots that light the wall). We haven't lost an LED that has lasted more than a day.
My advice - try another supplier (unless you are using VERY tight downlight fittings with no top vents, these just dont suit LEDs over 3W)

Any deals on LED Ball Bulb B22 12W 480Lm Warm White?

    • +1

Yeah, I don't want my house looking like a science lab.

    • i thought many people want cool white so that i post a deal for cool white B22

      • +1

Well, now you know. Will you consider of selling that for $3.39?

      • +3

        Nobody wants cool white.

        • +2

Don't trust a salesman when they want to get rid of old stock!

        • I love cool white, so do a lot of people i know. Feels brighter, more like daylight.

        • Like yellow daylight?

        • No, like normal blue daylight. 'warm' colours emulate antique tungsten lights, not the sun.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_temperature#Categorizing…
Even 'cool' white is more yellow than full daylight.

        • Your argument is too well structured. I can't retort: is the internet broken?

      • +3

No-one wants cool white, ever. I expect they are somehow cheaper to manufacture? That must be the only reason they exist.

        • They exist because they are more natural

  • Thanks Rep. Ordered 5. Hope it works OK when I received it.

    • Thx ricky123 .

  • +4

Actually most people I know want cool white .. Thanks OP got a few to try ..

    • +1

you know some seriously un-cool people.

    • crimson sunsets for the bedroom, winter, lounge room, bright midday for the laundry kitchen bathroom. some area both. Horses for courses

  • Ordered 2 for my balcony. Thanks Rep.

  • Rep, any chance you can do 10-12w warm white bulb in the future? 9w mr16 warm white will be nice too!

Compared 4.5w osram led with 35w halogen side by side, there is no way the led get close to the halogen….9w please!

To be fair, last time Rep put up a warm white down light promotion here but many people asked for cool white!

Why not doing cool & un-cool lighting promotion at the same time? Everyone will be happy!

Sympathiser. We know where you lurk.

  • Lumens per-$ purchase cost would be 132 versus 100 for Muller Licht (1100lm 10.99$)at ALDI this weekend. Known brand + Dimmable + easy return

    • Lol, I wouldn't consider "Muller" as a known brand.

    • People worrying (or feigning worry) over safety concerns the previous ad; as such, this had a veneer at least of Deutsch engineering> but sadly likely all gone by now of the [13 W]- 1000+ lumen decent bulbs. I should tread carefully installing the few not ACMA allowed, albeit Conformité Européenne 6.5 W that I purchased in ?RayShop brand previous sale.

  • HI all,

I was wondering I am still waiting on my order that processed on 18th April?

    Has anyone got their order?

    its 6th of may 2014.
