Not to be a party pooper but under Australian laws your not allowed to fiddle with the phone lines in your house, 50v of DC power hurts.

    • +3

These are used to trace cables or identify cables from point "A" to point "B". For example, you may have 4 network devices but you have 6 network points in your house, however you only have a 4 port modem/router and no cables are labeled, that's where something like this will help you identify what network cables you want to plug in. Now you may be thinking " there's only 6 cables, I'll just plug them in 1 at a time and find the ones I need" that's fine when there's only 6 but what if you were in an office environment with hundreds, these come in very handy

As far as this product goes, I picked up 1 of these from another supplier and the alternating tone didn't work right out of the box.

    • It is a good point but if you have the appropriate ACMA registration you might find this post useful, equipment might not be approved for use in Australia but I know that a lot of people in the industry use cheap imports.

Also someone might find this useful for equipment that is not going to be connected to the telephone line.

  • I'm willing to bet the canvas bag is not real canvas :)

    • Hi,
I have confirmed with our supplier,it is a real canvas bag.:)

WHY! can't people realize we are Australian's and we use AUD!!!!

    • +2

because we can't use apostrophes right?

      • +6

How ironic. Ranting about being Australian and complaining 'cos the price is listed in US dollars, yet you spell realise the American way.

      Welcome to the global Internet.
OzBargain is an Australian website, but if you want to buy goods from overseas, you need to learn to do currency conversions. (Protip: Google does maths for you!)
Some posters will choose to put the point-in-time converted AUD value in their post, but 1. currency exchange rates fluctuate and 2. different banks/cards utilise different rates and conversion fees.

      • -7

yes this is an Australian website that is what i am talking about one single conversion will makeing it easier for the many people that are interested in the deal.

seriously ive said this a million times before and ill probaly say this a million times to come I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK THIS IS NOT ENGLISH CLASS AND I'LL SPEAK HOW THE FK I WANT TO SPEAK.

        • +2

You're free to rite osstraalean wivowt apostrofeez or capitelz howeva the fek u want, therefore the rep is also free to post in USD or CAD or Vietnamesee Dong, as long as it's clearly stated in the title.

I'd rather a site that charges in USD state USD instead of a pre-converted AUD value, because as lmh86 states, different banks charge different conversion fees.

        • +3

I would prefer to have a correct value in USD over an incorrect one in AUD.

I dont care what you think this isnt a closed market and I'll but in whatever currency I like.

I do find it amazingly ironic that you dont even get the irony of complaining about a price being listed in american, and writing your complaint in american. But then you are named after an american company that has pretended to be australian for decades and still is while is shuts up shop so it cant be THAT surprising.

I suggest if you dont like direct imports you go pay GST to Gerry Harvey, you can complain about the evils of online shopping to each other.

  • I need a male RJ45 to male Rj12 cable or similar because my telephone wall socket is cat6. Rep do you have that?

    • You don't need an adapter, normal male RJ12 plugs fit into RJ45 sockets. Only the two middle pins are used for the phone line. It might seem a little loose in some sockets, but it should still make contact. Unless it's a VoIP socket, then you can't plug a normal phone in anyway, that's a different story altogether.

Here's an image showing the pin-outs, the four middle wires are the same for telephone use:

      • How do I know? If it's VoIP? One port is labelled voice and the other data. Body corporate said the building is NBN ready (but ironically can't actually get NBN because it's fewer than 100 dwellings). It's a new building and I'm getting adsl internet/phone connected in a couple of weeks from Exetel, I'm not sure whether they will know? The person I spoke to on the phone didn't know what RJ45 was

        • if you are able to get ADSL you likely have a splitter/filter in the wall, the voice port is for your phone and your data port for your modem, older houses tend to have combined points and need a splitter or filter at every point. It is possible there is simply data wiring as well a phone cable to your unit and the data cable is not connected at present, in this case you be able to tell by the fact will not be able to get modem sync on the data plug and will need to plug a splitter/filter into the phone plug if you are using a landline as well rather than naked DSL

    • Hey amanda89,
Sorry we dont have this kind of cables.

  • Ordered 2 for work use, thanks op.

  • Not sure if this is the same kind of thing http://www.buyincoins.com/item/40179.html I've bought stuff off there and it just takes a few weeks from china I think

What you've shown is a basic continuity tester, which detects if there is a break in a network cable and lets you know which wire is broken or not connected. Useful for testing network cabling, but it can't locate a single cable amongst many.

The MS6812 is connected to a pair of wires and sends an RF signal through the wire, which is then picked up using the non-contact receiver probe:

The probe can be moved near the wire to find where the signal drops out, indicating where a break in the wire is located.

It can also be used to trace where a cable runs through a wall, as the signal will become louder as the probe is moved closer to the cable, and softer as it's moved away. Handy if there's a random wire poking out of a wall and you have no idea where it leads to. This can help find the other end.

It can also be used to find a single pair of wires amongst many, which is very useful when you have a hundred network or phone wires coming out of a hole in the wall and need to find the exact one that connects to a particular socket in a different part of the building.

      • Yeah greenie4242,you are right.Good answer.:-D
