"An icon of the Australian outback, the swag is an original Aussie design born out of necessity in the 1800s, but these days it's one of the best ways to travel fast and light through the Aussie bush. Quick and easy to roll out, the tough 320 gsm (12 oz) canvas Boundary Swag is great for fishing trips or weekends away. A front window with awning, no-see mesh panels for total insect protection, and a foam mattress with polycotton sleeping surface are things the jolly swagman couldn't have imagined. Generous in height, with a high-tensile Aluminium pole, the Boundary Swag packs down small enough to fit in the back pannier of the motorbike. It weighs only 5 kg so you won't even notice it's there."

A cheap but decent swag even if the RRP is overblown.

  • Is there a double swag option?

    • They have doubles but not on super special. Dune $380, Mitchell $430 - probably better quality. At the prices on offer though I'd shop around via google. Ebay usually has large numbers of swags of varying quality. Look for thick base, good canvas, thick matress, good airflow, fine mesh.

      • If you're going to spend that much might as well get a Burke & Wills.

I've got one of these, bought it in a previous sale, pretty good for the price IMO but you'll need to chuck the mattress that comes with it and replace it with something better and wider!

Yes 10cm dual density is much better, or just put a cheap sleeping/yoga mat underneath.

      • Any self inflating mattress would be better, obviously the thicker the better! My main issue was the fact that the included mattress is too slender, and I'm a pretty big guy so I practically hang off the side of it.

    sweg yala

  • To be perfectly honest, some people like swags, and others prefer a small 1 or 2 person tent. They are priced at very similar price points, although I assume the swag is a lot more heavy duty, but then also much heavier. My small tent takes less than 2 minutes to set up.

I have always used some of those rubber square mats UNDER my tent to act as insulation when camping. I have no doubt it would be effective as well for a swag.

I won't comment on Anaconda's quality or service. Lets just say they are not my favourite shop, and where possible I give BCF or Rays Outdoors my money.

Also worth noting that Anaconda 'Specials' are really bringing the over priced stock back down to a realistic price point. They do price match so you may save 10% if you can find the product cheaper in a real shop.

In some cases you're correct although I haven't got a clue what you mean by "a real shop". Shop around is the answer. I rarely shop at any of the places you mention unless they are 'on sale' and in my experience Anaconda>Rays>BCF but I guess it depends entirely on where you live and what you're looking for.

      • Sorry - real shop = bricks and mortar shop.

Dune Single Swag - Paul Atreides has it.

  • interested but nervous - bought one of the Stockton swags for $49 on a previous ozbargain deal and it's absolute rubbish. One pole, one guy rope and only pegs for the base. No pole at the feet so you end up wearing it except at your head. No PVC floor - just a lightweight canvas that can't even keep heavy dew out - top or bottom. I followed the instructions (which happened to be for another type of swag) regarding soaking and drying it before use. Still, in my one attempt to use it I discovered that it was entirely damp inside when I tried to go to bed, after being rolled out on a dry, clear sky hence high dew, evening. What it would be like if it had actually been raining - who knows. Does anyone know if this swag (which looks far better I have to say) is actually waterproof? dew proof?

    • canvas should be wettened. moisture causes the canvas and stitching to expand making it waterproof. - so when you set up a tent of swag then oyu shoudl wet it - to seal it.

you can also get wax compounds to seal edges/seams.

      • thanks altomic… but wouldn't some heavy dew been ideal for sealing it; slow buildup so plenty of time for the canvas to swell. Instead, it was very damp inside - such that it would pretty quickly soak your bedding if you jumped in.

    • I don't know about your particular swag but many if not most modern swags are already "seasoned". In the unlikely event that this one isn't waterproof you'd simple return it.

      • I've got three different brand swags, from cheap to top of the line. None of them came pre seasoned.
