Free High-Quality Printed Custom Map of a Destination/City of Your Choice Delivered from KLM

730

Sorting out a trip to the Europe. noticed this previous post by Neil and thought it was worth reposting

KLM have a new Google Maps based application that allows you to create a map for an upcoming trip that includes all the places that you want to visit.

KLM Pack & Go enables you to create a map of places that you wish to visit and KLM will then send you a high-quality printed map of your selections - for free. You can share your on-line Google Map with your Facebook and Twitter friends and they can also add tips to your map of the places that they recommend you visit.

The terms and conditions of the offer mention that the free map offer only runs 'while stock lasts'. So if you want a free custom printed map you had better move fast.

As of submission there are 18,000+ maps available. This hasn't hit the bargain sites yet, so you have a good chance. I selected Melbourne as a test but there are loads of other cities to pick from. I added some coffee shops, cafes, pois, to the map. Quite useful if you are traveling to a foreign city.

Seems to be only maps for cities where KLM fly to.

For clarity: KLM print the map and send it to you in the mail. You need to first save your map (bottom left button) and then the Order my free map button.

Via Google Maps Mania A great blog if you are into your Gmap mashups.

    KLM destination guide at http://www.klm.com/destinationguide/au_en/airline-ticket/ind…
I did a map with them a while back before you could put locations onto it. That one was not very good. I found it better to google map print and stick a few together. But I still give this a +. Also, just letting people know that it took quite a while to arrive. 6+ weeks

  • Thanks Neil.

  • 20mins later there are only 4000 maps left.
    That went fast

There wasn't 18,000 at the time of posting. That was copied from Neil's post from a year ago which means this has "hit the bargain sites" for over a year.

Not sure what the chances of getting it are. The site says 4000 remaining but terms and conditions say:

This Promotion begins on 3 January 2013 at 00.01 am and final entry is at 23.59 pm on 8 March 2013 or while stock lasts.

Oh well, not much to lose if you don't get it.

    • LOL that was over 1 year and 2 months ago - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93846

The counter seems to be going down really fast now however..!?!?!

  • How big are the maps?

      1:1

    • about this big

Got a map the last time they ran this promo. Wasn't very big, between A3 and A4 size from memory and the quality of the paper and printing were pretty average.

    • Thanks

    • Well, how large a fold-up map does a tourist like to carry & use?

      • +1

It wasn't 'tourist quality' though. You wouldn't be able to use it to direct yourself around a city.

not really a dupe if its free…

Most people would nowadays travel with a phone or tablet anyway, I assume the map is going to be left out of your backpack to make space for your other gadgets :)

    • Nothing beats a good quality printed map of the right scale when you want to see the bigger picture and make markings when planning your itinerary.

      • +2

        it's not good quality…

It's just CBD and surrounding areas. Easily found at airports, hotels etc.

It's a waste of paper and fuel if you are just getting it for the sake of getting it.

  • You can zoom in and out as you please and move the map to where you feel it would be useful before saving/printing it…

  • Thanks

Similar tip for windows phone users, go into "Phone Settings > Maps > Download maps" then select all the countries you're travelling to. It'll download the entire countries maps for you. Might want to be on wifi for the download, Australia is 390mb, Germany is 800mb and the USA is a whopping 3.5GB.

But it's a brilliant tool because no matter where you travel in the country you'll have maps available (and public transport maps too!).

(You can of course chose states and regions of the country if you dont want to download the whole thing).

Except Japan…..dont know why but microsoft/nokia dont have any japan maps….weird.

      • The Japanese geographical address system.

        it might blow your mind.

        • Huh, well isnt that something.

        • japanese geographic system is easier to find places than western systems.

geography is broken down by district number, block number, building number.

so easy once you learn how.

          it's numeric. basic.
