  • It's $8.95 shipping to Adelaide, which is freakin' awesome!!!

    • Postage is very reasonable compared to alot of 'deals' I've seen lately.

      • +6

        code: 701sdx_freeship

what was reasonable is now free, for ozb, from the team here

        • yeah i was looking at that too thinking 8 bux good price… congrats on your millionth shipping member too.. shame it wasn't me though!

          • @wisc: Thank you very much.

Edit: Can someone please change head post to include free ship coupon I posted in comment above?

            • @QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: EDIT: DONE, Scotty or mods feel free to change formatting of head post

            • @QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: I bought one just after 12 and paid shipping.

QQQ any chance of having my shipping charge refunded - pretty please.

              • @chichi: Can you send CS a message via the helpcenter? I'm posting this from a very boring meeting, can't organise, but they will do it for you.

Do me a favour and also say "P.S Nick makes terrible Coffee"

  • I just picked one up for my mom! Great price plus 12 months Warranty which i'm guessing means it's not the refurbished model?

  • Damn, catch of the day needs its own section on oz bargains… you guys should sponsor it for a bit too :D can't let shopping square have all the fun..

  • i want it, but dont need it. If I didnt buy a laptop last yr, I'd be picking this up for sure.

  • I don't know much about these things so could someone tell me if this would suit basic browsing (eBay, news sites, googling), email etc whilst traveling? Also for a Uni student as a secondary laptop for taking to Uni (main one stays home) would it be ok? How long does the battery charge last?

Does it come with everything you need installed on it?

Thank you for any help :)

    • +1

It has a 7" screen which is pretty tiny..
but that also allows the whole machine to be tiny..
yes, it's an ok internet and email machine and probably an OK word Processing machine.. The keyboard is tiny though..

It comes with everything installed, using Linux and free software.

      • +2

Thank you so much! I know the screen is tiny but it is soooo awkward holding a 15.4" laptop in the car I think I can manage with the smaller. My daughter doesn't feel safe taking her laptop on public transport but this size is much easier to "hide" in her bag. So will suit both of us :)

Thank you again, I'm nervous buying things like this as I am never sure if they do what I think they do!

  • Bought one, very nice price!

  • QQQ- How many are there in stock??

  • can anyone answer my question PLEASE :
CAN I HAVE WINDOWS XP on this machine ?

  • Just bought one.
Was thinking about it… then when QQQ threw in the free shipping, it sealed the deal. thanks!

  • Really good price. Does anyone know the CPU's speed? Is this netbook able to run applications like MS Office 2007?

    • 900Mhz, they they're under-clocked at something like 667Mhz ??? There is software available for both Windows and Linux to restore the clock speed at the expense of battery life. You can also get tweaked BIOS's that do the same thing in the bios as well as giving you access to "super bright" lcd settings etc.

      • Wow. They says Celeron 900Mhz is faster than Atom 1.6ghz. Amazing netbook for this price. http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/03/08/intel-atom-initial-…

        • Load of rubbish.

        • That's a fairly old article. Newer Atoms support HT, which will significantly increase speed on multithreaded apps.

Further, the battery life is generally a major reason people buy a netbook for - in that regards, the Atom totally blows the Celeron out of the water.

    • It would run Office 2007 but pretty slowly..
You'd want to turn off all the fancy appearance stuff.

  • hmm i do hope by end of this year i can see netbook with 100GB HD with price like this hehehe

  • Can this play avi's without lag? How is the support for codecs needed to play some movies?

    • I guess it can "It seems that any MPEG4 based video will play back on the Eee PC. DivX and xVid videos play without issue. And yes, if you want to watch You Tube within your Fire Fox browser on the Eee PC that's completely doable."

  • Anyone knows if the black one looks good?

  • any webcam?

  • bloody brilliant deal! well done QQQ!

    • -2

David Jones has betten them and the DJs one have webcam also and can be picked up and not have to wait who knows how long for COTD to actaully disptach the item.
      See http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14236.

My opinion of COTD still hasn't changed (based my purchase history with them). Some people seem to love COTD, for what, slow delivery and mostly overpriced "junk" which normally can be brought at local markets cheaper (yes not everything they sell is junk, but most things they do sell that isn't junk can be brought at a local retailer cheaper anyway).

  • EeePc's Almost Gone!

  • Great deal. My friend saw my EEE PC 701 which I bought from COTD a few weeks ago, and she just bought one of these. No webcam but not a deal breaker. :)

  • +2

Voting Negative. I told a someone I knew about them being $199 at David Jones (See http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14236) and they went and brought one, the store they got it from (not Hornsby (as Hornsby only had demo ones left)) was new and it also had the 0.3MP webcam so better value then $229 (so NOT a bargain, DJs is cheaper) and maybe waiting weeks for delivery from COTD.

  • +5

I don't think an extremely limited floor stock clearance is a valid comparison.

On hearing about this "Bargain", I was naturally concerned. But after checking catalogs, and seeing it wasn't advertised I called some stores, I realised it just wasn't relevant.

    Sydney

    Hornsby - 2 pieces, ex demo/display
Elizabeth St - No stock, only one other model on display

    Victoria

Chadstone - No stock, haven't had for ages
Bourke St - No stock, haven't had for ages
Doncaster - No stock, haven't had for ages

This tells me that DJ have discontinued this EEE sku, and may have one or two lying around a few stores and are clearing them.

It's almost like taking the no stock/fake listings on shopbot and staticice and using them as value comparisons.

Regarding your past experience with our website. Sorry to disappoint you first time round, but I suggest you try us again - you will be surprised how much can change in a short time at a fast growing business. Everyone of these EEE pc's are in stock and will be shipped out starting Monday morning.

    Have a nice weekend.

  • -2

I have tried you a few times (more then 10 times), and your ALWAYS slow dispatching goods (its not the delivery but the dispatch).

MONDAY MORNING!!!! People have already paid for them (the ones sold prior to COB yesterday) and you have them sitting around! Why wasn't a sticker with the address placed on the box and dispatched so they can wind there way through the delivery system?

Doesn't sound you changed much at all.

How have you changed recently? Remember you don't know WHO I am and when I last purchased something.

BTW its NOT just Hornsby that had them, so the truth is that a retailer has them and the person (who I know you brought one) had it YESTERDAY and is using it already.

So there being discontinued, why are you selling yours "cheap" (is it because of the same reason) (I am NOT saying demo, just discontinued)?

Your site states: "At today’s price, stock is limited", so you don't have enough (1450) for everyone in Australia and neither does DJs. So? Look you weren't the cheapest. Just because its NOT in a catalogue doesn't mean it doesn't count. DJs has limited stock and so do you. Difference is DJs hands it over immediately and does't horde them in inventory until someone decides to dispatch them to customers who have already paid.

I've seen other posts where people have said just because its not geographically available to every doesn't mean it not a bargain, it is for the people who can access the deal.

Well the DJs one even had a webcam, its not worse then your one, better if you ask me and cheaper and no waiting around for your company to actually dispatch what has been paid for.

Its relevant for the person WHO did buy one, and for others who still can buy one. I rang Hornsby and was told that they only had demo stock left, I rang another store and they have new ones same price in stock, I told the person and they went and brought it. Simple. Relevant, cheap, in stock, instant" delivery", proper company listed on the ASX to provide customer service.

Do you tell customers that you haven't dispatched paid for goods but have to wait 3 days for them to even leave your place?

  • I'm not going to get into a back and forth on logistics, pushing out 1450 netbooks within one business day is good service by most standards.

Please state the store name your friend purchased from, I would like to call them and see how many they have in stock now, and how many they had from the start.

    • -4

2 business days (part of) (not 1), so a minimum of 2 business day, maybe much more.
For someone that ordered 1 netbook they wouldn't care that can disptach the other 1449 within 2 business days, they would be more concerned that their one wasn't even dispatched prior to the weekend.
You're thinking from the companies point of view NOT the customers.

"Everyone of these EEE pc’s are in stock and will be shipped out starting Monday morning." Yep there we go, STARTING Monday morning, and will the last one be dispatched, 2 weeks later (with your company that is possible)?

I am NOT the only one here that has slow deliveries from your company.

You never stated how many you had when the sale started (until the last post).

      Parramatta.

      I never said FRIEND.

Just because you got a negative from a better priced deal your not happy?

If you offered better deals overall and didn't lie in your logo about one product even 24 hours (as you normally do) and had some customer focus then maybe things would be better (for the customers, or potential customers).

You HAVEN'T said how your company has changed.

Please explain what has changed in the last 35 days.

      • +1

All EEE Pc's will have left the building by Monday afternoon.

Called DJ's Parramatta. "Cheapest eee PC we have is $429, we haven't sold it for $199". I'm guessing the floor stock was sold to your friend yesterday, and the gentlemen currently working was not around. To answer your question, yes, after purchasing such a large volume of stock, to see a counter offer being posted is quite hair raising :) Luckily this wasn't the case and the Catch went very well.

Please understand I'm not trying to argue with you, just trying to demonstrate the comparison you made between this deal and the DJs is not apples to apples.

With regards to your personal experience with Catch, allow me to examine your case and see what's happened, it sounds recent, corrections need to be made. Please email me [email protected].

        • -4

Look your company has been very pathetic in their customer service to me more then ONCE. You haven't changed (for the better). Please explain to me what has changed in the last 35 days?

"Regarding your past experience with our website. Sorry to disappoint you first time round, but I suggest you try us again - you will be surprised how much can change in a short time at a fast growing business."
You still haven't replied to that.

I can assure you the person I know DID get it for $199 (they even had multiple ones in stock in more then 1 colour). They DID sell it for $199, like you said they maybe sold out now and the weekend staff are probably different to weekday staff (that's even presuming you spoke to the home office section).

You stated: "see a counter offer being posted is quite hair raising", I doubt if DJs had it as a "counter offer", they just probably wanted to get rid off stock, many retailers do it. In fact isn't that one of your main companie's methods (selling distress stock)?

          http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/about_us.php
"One product per day! That's it!"
Thats LIE (well its not the truth on most days).

          • @Zero Sydney: Nothing major has changed in the last 35 days.

I was assuming you were one of those who has experienced delays prior to December last year, when we were working from another warehouse site.

This is why I suggested you relate your experience to me, so I can see what's gone wrong.

I'm sure your friend did receive one for $199, it doesn't change that very few units were available, from very few stores. All stores I rang had no stock.

As mentioned above please email if you wish to resolve an issue where our service fell short of the mark.

            Going out for weekend, peace.

            • -3

@QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: "Nothing major has changed in the last 35 days.
I was assuming you were one of those who has experienced delays prior to December last year, when we were working from another warehouse site."

NO I have purchased in the last 35 days and COTD customer service is still awfull.
Sending emails out AFTER the item has arrived (that's truly PATHETIC), very slow dispatch. I had to cancel an order as your company was taking so long (not that you're company wanted to, you had my money and refused to dispatch it!). Sending the WRONG ITEM which was worth WAY less then the item I have paid for! Your company didn't want me to send it back but to keep the lower priced one (and pay for it again) and then you wanted to send me the correct item (as you rep stated they didn't want to pay for the postage back for an ITEM your COMPANY WRONGLY sent). The rep said I wasn't the only one who had that mistake happen with that item.

Look I have "chatted" with your reps before, they had no care for the customer.

So your company DOESN'T sell distress stock where there maybe limited quantities (where the amount isn't disclosed) (as you have sometimes referred to the small catch)?

For a while there your company wasn't even sending emails out when a rep responded (like it use to), so how was a customer to even know that there was a reply? It was eventually fixed but your rep wasn't even aware that there was problem (so blamed the customer). The list goes on.

"As mentioned above please email if you wish to resolve an issue where our service fell short of the mark."
I have emailed your company, its useless. Best to treat your company like a $2 store where you can never expect a refund (even if faulty) or good customer service as that is what provided (in my opionion). At least a $2 store don't take a customers money and not give the paid for item.

What have you changed about packaging? You as bad as ShoppingSquare, OO.com.au does a GOOD job, their dispatch is also quick.

              http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/about_us.php:
"They work tirelessly 24/7 to make sure that at midday our members are treated to the best deal in Australia." Thats is true for ONLY the buyers (company)/procurement staff is it? Its not true for the people dispatching as you have already stated that they wont be dispatched till Monday.

Your company I reckon works on marketing pluff (like the last qoute) instead of actually providing a good service. You hope customers don't care, that they forget the inconviences caused by your companie's low standards so hope they come back.

Honestly the stuff you sell at the end of the month (about then) is just stuff that is not selling.
As a seller of distressed stock, you are stuck with your own distress stock, offering to buyers to buy it for free but to pay postage is a good for your company as its taking warehouse space that could be used for goods that someone may actually want to pay more for with better margins.

I have stated in other posts that your company needs to lift its business standards and find better stock if you want to keep the 35 employees employed.

              http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/about_us.php:
              "through incredible word of mouth"
Yep I do speak to others about your company, but nothing complimentary recently.
You've advertised in the SMH, so its not all word of mouth.

        • "With regards to your personal experience with Catch, allow me to examine your case and see what’s happened, it sounds recent, corrections need to be made." Until you can compare and equal your "dashboard"/KPIs against those of Amazon UK or more locally OO.COM.AU then I wouldn't be saying how good you are (as your not). I have suggested in another post previously that COTD could learn what good customer service is (and crucially quick dispatch and good packaging standards) could happen by COTD buying something from OO.com.au. Until you can even come close to them don't bother claiming your any good at mail odrer. There is a suggestion for you COTD. If COTD have taken it up they haven't learnt much (or if they have, they haven't implemented it (or if they have they have stuffed the implementation up)).

    • -2

"I’m not going to get into a back and forth on logistics" isn't that one of the core features of a "mail order" business? If that can't be handled efficiently, quickly, achieved at a low cost (so customers aren't charged too much) and correctly, then why even attempt to me a mail order company, it means your company is in the wrong business (or maybe be in no business at all).

  • -2

    Less than one hour left……….

  • Good stuff pspman!!

  • +10

Man, Zero Sydney needs to let it go. Ok so you had a bad experience once or a couple of times but I think your attitude confirms the idea that some people will never be satisfied. QQQ offered to look into the matter but if you don't want to give him the chance to do that then how do you expect them to get better with postage, or anything else? Or perhaps it's easier to bitch and moan for months on end about how you once had a bad experience.

And as far as this particular item is concerned you are saying it's cheaper elsewhere but you are comparing an online retailer with over a thousand of this item, with a bricks and mortar retailer with limited (possibly only display) stock. Of course when you buy from bricks and mortar retailer you can get the item immediately, but when you buy from an online store then you don't expect to get it in 2 days. You aren't the only buyer. If it arrives in 2 days then it's a bonus. If you need it straight away then 'let your fingers do the walking' and/or drive around to some shops. Delivery time vs immediate purchase is the decision you have to make.

    • +1

I fully agree, you negative what is a good deal for what may be genuine reasons but you have a major bitch about it, and ignore the countless times QQQ tries to justify and help you out. If you dont like COTD, dont go on it, its as simple as that.

      • -3

QQQ never offered to help out at the time, the staff certaintly didn't, and what can they do now? It happened but that doesn't mean I have to be happy with the bad service.
People DO remember. Most things weren't for me but others (as I never found most things they sold that crash hot).

"When you buy from an online store then you don’t expect to get it in 2 days". With OO.com.au and Dealsdirect (not daily deals) I DO expect it within 2 business days as that is what they have been like for me. COTD haven't sent the stuff from people who have brought it yesterday (there was nothing on the site saying they will sit on the inventory until Monday). So thats good business is it?
I get items quicker from overseas then from COTD (Amazon UK less then a week sometimes, longest 9 days from placing the order (and that includes weekends)).
I have seen posts where people have ordered an item and had it the next day (not COTD obviously).
It wasn't just ONE experience that I've had with COTD.
So mail order places CAN be fast, COTD isn't (in all my experiences)

QQQ can't help me as it COME & GONE. Can he go back in time and dispatch the goods quicker? NO.
Can they go back and make sure that their staff were usefull? NO. And of cause there are other things.
Nothing can be FIXED as it has happened so I am not taking QQQ offer up as there is nothing he can do, besides to try to improve things in the future.

I am not like a person on Ebay leaving AAAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++ for pathetic service.

QQQ claims they are already better, like I said I haven't noticed it.

I am satfisied with some stores, like OO.com.au & Amazon UK, so its not ALL negative. COTD I am negative to due to what they have done in over 10 transactions. They haven't improved since December as QQQ claims (if they have I can't tell and QQQ can't state what has improved (besides a different warehouse (no that he said what was wrong with the old one))).

Other people have said they are slow also (some say there fast), so its just not me.

"You aren’t the only buyer" as customer I shouldn't need to know or care about what the other customers maybe doing. As a mail order business a core function is order fulfilment, if COTD can't do that then why be in the mail order business.

I still reckon the DJs purchase was cheaper then QQQ (as it was). QQQ said it not relevant, like I said it is relevant to the people who can and did buy the (better) item at DJs. QQQ said DJs had limited stock, well they limited stock in their small fish too.

COTD say they rely on word of mouth, well my mouth is spreading what they have been like to me.
If they don't like then they should have been better so they would have nice things said about them instead of negative.
IF QQQ or COTD don't like then good. COTD can't really expect me to say good things can they (maybe with their own view on their company may actually think that, if they think all customer's complaint are unfounded and that they never ever do anything wrong)?

Its not just a sporadic problem that has occurred with COTD, its seems to be systemic and the're not fixing it.

People say that a complaint that a customer has can be used to turn that customer into an advocate for the place, it wont happen with me if QQQ makes excuses and not see that there is problems that aren't being addressed (hey they can keep going on like the way they do but instead of being a growing business it may well be a declining business).

      • "ignore the countless times QQQ tries to justify and help you out"
He has only offered TODAY. Never has before neither has the staff their. What can QQQ do for me? Nothing.

Justifying things is making excuses. I am not impressed. He hasn't really actually justified anything to me. Not many solid respsonses from him.

I never seen him state that they have improved packaging (which is part of the P&H cost) for example.
I didn't find his responses great, just knocking a cheaper place.

COTD lie about their one product every 24 hours.

QQQ can't even say how they have improved in the last 35 days. All he has done is assume (and he was wrong) that it due to another warehouse from last year.

Making excuses is poor customer relations when the problems have occurred this year.

I am sure that COTD would like it if any customers that they have serviced badly would just forget it; doesn't mean its going to happen. Customers have a right to say about what's bad if its happened, potential customers are allowed various channels of information, just not the PR stuff that they post on their website saying how good they claim they are. If COTD doesn't like when a customer actually states what has happened and they don't like, well bad luck for COTD, they are operating a business and should expect good and bad customer feedback, but if the only response is excuses and no improvement then what can they expect of people?

        • +9

Firstly I'd also like to thank you for your comments, and speaking your mind.

I'm going to try and summarise issues you've raised in the list below:

1 - The EEE PC is cheaper with webcam elsewhere
2 - On multiple occasions delivery of orders you placed was slow, exceeding 2 weeks
3 - One one or multiple occasions, the dispatch email was sent after delivery
4 - A rep asked you to pay for postage on a packing error
5 - I have not given you solid list of improvements made to our dispatch operations to allow for faster delivery
6 - We do not sell only one product every 24 hours
7 - You feel my responses have been excuses, nothing solid

If I've missed something I apologise.

          My response:

1 - Again, its not an accurate comparison when there is not really stock available. I have made calls to a few stores, including the one you quoted and confirmed.

2 - I apologise. We are currently aiming to have everything delivered within 5 business days, and over time will bring this down to 3. Please note that occasionally damaged boxes, counting errors, and under delivery may cause a small fraction of parcels to experience a delay and be delivered outside this window. I'm sure that most on this website can attest to our faster delivery in 2009.

3 - Another apology. For several batches of parcels, one of the packing team leaders in training did not tick of all his boxes and sent the dispatch notice late. This is now automated and shouldn't happen in future.

4 - This is certainly not standard procedure, I would appreciate if you could email me the ticket number for this so I can make sure our policy has not been misunderstood by the service representative who handled this enquiry.

5 - Without going into details that our operation manager would prefer I not disclose on a public forum - with a change of warehouse also comes new systems, hardware like barcode scanners, packing staff has been tripled and much more. I would be happy to give you a personal tour, or explain over the phone. Email me to organise.

6 - The "About Us" section needs a good update generally, specially since our business model has evolved significantly since I first drafted it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

7 - I believe that I have been sufficiently open with you on all issues raised, and shown my willingness to personally ensure that any incident that occured in the time that you were our customer is never repeated. If it has not come across this way, I'm sorry. Also please understand - our current discussion is heavily off topic, this is why I prefer I address you directly via email or phone call.

Zero Sydney, I won't be making further replies on this thread and wait for your email to and hopefully we can clear the air, end this on a high note. [email protected].

Big up to the moderators for being patient with me.

@QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: While I sympathise with Zero Sydney's experience I have to say you (QQQ) seem to be handling it well (civilly and patiently) and it's a good idea that you're sorting it out elsewhere.

I harbour no interest or distrust to both sides (completely neutral) but your handling of this situation would not discourage me from making a purchase from your website in the future.

I hope both sides find an adequate solution.

Back on topic, although the deal expired at it's time if you didn't want the hassle of shopping around, I'd feel it was good value for money hence why it received a positive from me.

One advice Zero Sydney = LET IT GO.

A lot of us had our qualms with COTD in the past. The changes QQQ has mentioned have been very noticeable but if you want to continue to hold your grudge then in the end only you will suffer. I used to be very vocal about the negatives of CoTD just like you, but my past few experiences with them have lead me to believe they are getting their act together.

My netbook arrived just now! Excellent! I got the "your item has been shipped" email Monday and it has arrived Tues. Box had bubblewrap around it and inside a strong plastic bag for delivery. This is my normal experience with COTD for quite a few orders. I have only had one problem with a missing parcel which was Aust Post fault, for which COTD completely refunded me after a quick investigation, no problems.

Now, how do I work this thing, lol.

  • Just got mine also, hats off to COTD they really are a different animal these days, I've ordered a few items now and had delivery in 48 hours. Me thinks, Zero Sydney it's time to build a bridge!!

    • It nots not my obligation to build a bridge, as there the business its up to them to show that they deserve peoples custom.
I've seen some people say they got it quickly, and some people state they never got was was advertised (and COTD dismissing any obligation to fix what's missing).

      • Interesting to see how this thread changed tone.

        • Well its not hard for it turn once people actually experienced COTD for themselves.

  • Received mine today. Unfortunately the postbag was open - lucky it didn't fall out!

Can someone tell me please is there supposed to be a sleeve/bag in the box for the netbook? I thought they came with some sort of little bag or sleeve. And the specs on the COTD website said this:

    In the box:

    Battery
    AC Adaptor
    Manual
    Quick Start Guide
    Inner Bag

    • Anyone?

      • I get only the battery, manual and AC adaptor in the box. No Quick Start Guide and inner Bag.

        • I don't have a quick start guide. I have a Linux Recovery DVD - did you get one of those?

          • @chichi: yes, one Linux Recovery DVD. We should ask for the bag. A bag to protect the computer will be nice.

      • No sleeve/bag as well, it would be good not to have to buy one, especially when it was listed in the spec. Time to send an email to COTD to ask for one?

        • Agree.

Time for COTD to welch on their obligations:
          chichi quoting COTD:
"All the Asus products are shipped with factory seal and without any modification on our part. Therefore if there are any parts missing you would have to contact Asus directly."

  • The Eee PC deal is back on COTD Small Fish - today - for all who missed it last time round.

  • Mine arrived today. No sign of a bag but I gather the bags were pretty poor anyway. Dealextreme has some nice ones so I'll get one from there. As far comparing this deal with DJs. What bloody nonsense - this is OzBargain not Sydney bargain. There are no DJs within cooee.

    • -1

David Jones DID have some when QQQ called, as I told other people and they brought more at the Parramatta store even after he called some stores.
They are marked as $499 and scan as $199. 3 pink ones left as of Monday afternoon at Parramatta.

They DID come with bags and did have a webcam.

Just because you aren't near a DJs doesn't mean nobody else is, conversely the DJ product was available to some people not NO ONE. I said there wasn't one available to everybody in Australia at DJs, the same as COTD.
So just because Aldi isn't in every state or town one would vote negative because some people can't access the deal? The DJ post stated Hornsby so it was geograpgically tagged. Geographically bound deals ARE posted on COTD.

      "In the box:

      Battery
      AC Adaptor
      Manual
      Quick Start Guide
      Inner Bag"

      now it states:

      "In the box:

      Battery
      AC Adaptor
      Manual"

Good to know COTD modifies their offer after people complain that they didn't get what was offered!

As Chichi qoutes from COTD below:
"All the Asus products are shipped with factory seal and without any modification on our part. Therefore if there are any parts missing you would have to contact Asus directly."
Again this is pathetic service from COTD, they advertise something then make the customer take up what is the retailers obligiation to try to get what was offered.

  • Just received this reply from COTD:
    Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the missing items.

All the Asus products are shipped with factory seal and without any modification on our part. Therefore if there are any parts missing you would have to contact Asus directly.

The parts can't be purchased by themselves, as such we do not have any to supply.

Please contact the ASUS at http://www.asus.com.au/aboutasus.aspx?show=3 and let them know that you purchased it through Catch Of The Day and have been referred to them.

Please let me know how it goes.

  • Seems to me the bags were never meant to be in the box. These are very basic/budget eeepc units and it appears COTD may have copied the specs from somewhere else not realising it doesn't relate to the actual item they are selling. Note too that the photographs show an eeepc with a webcam.

    • So COTD can't post correct details of their items for sale (or show a repsentative picture (as it WASN'T as 701SDX (which doesn't have a webcam))), so the're happy to mislead potential (and actual) purchasers. Where is the care of COTD?
      Yep great improvement there.

      • You're dead right - they changed the specs on the small fish today!! I checked it earlier and it was exactly the same as I quoted above but now it has no inner bag and quick start guide.
        What a disgrace.

        • +1

Yes its a disgrace, and people here defend COTD and saying that they have changed (for the better).
How did you pay, maybe a credit chargeback or paypal dispute could be in order.

      Hello again,

So COTD KNEW it was different to what they advertised. Now that people have complained they don't really care. They knew what they were offereing in the advertisement was wrong ("which was why it was so much cheaper") but they didn't bother to advertise what people really would be getting. Shabby COTD practices.
As you commented earlier, its a disgrace.

  • The link given to me in the email from COTD would be useless I'd say. ASUS aren't going to do anything about a product that was never supposed to be supplied.
COTD have shown very bad form here.

    • Yep, they stated it would come with an inner bag, now that you have paid and receieved an item that was different to what they specified they say its not their repsonbility. Misreprentation. I'd say if someome had the oringinal "advertisment" (not the currently modified one which doesn't state it comes with a bag or quick start quide) and lodged a complaint to Consumer Affairs Victoria (as COTD is Victorian based (I don't know their legal domical though)) then COTD would maybe made to fix their mistake. They stated what would be provided, they never said we will deliver what the manufacturer has in the box, so if the box was empty they would be happy?

  • I got a different reply stating that COTD stuffed up with their specs -

This was still an insanely good bargain and hope this hasn't inconvenienced you too much. Once again, sorry for overlooking those details, see you online again real soon!

    • "We understood that the SPECS had been cut down since the last time we sold it which was why it was so much cheaper" so they knew it was cheaper as you got less, but they never advised that you get less!
COTD is still not a good business.

So will now COTD offer refunds and pay the postage back as they supplied something different to which they offered and took payment for? When they sent me the completly wrong item they didn't even want to take it back, COTD is pathetic. QQQ trying to get involved after I had already dealt with company is no good. They had many chances to rectify the problems but didn't.

"This was still an insanely good bargain and hope this hasn’t inconvenienced you too much."

      !!!! I'm speechless!

      • Well unlike what some people seem to be saying about COTD in this deal, COTD haven't really improved.

I hope you get for free what you have paid for (and expected).

Well if $229 was a insanley good bargain as COTD claims, then $199 with a wecbcam and inner bag/sleeve from David Jones is even better (and of cause there a real retailer where you can take it back easily etc). Yes not all DJs had them and not all the staff know that they have been marked down.

I personally know three people who have brought new 701SD (not 701SDX) at David Jones for $199.

COTD should take responsibility for their stuff up and procure quick start guides and inner bags and post them to every body (or offer refunds for those who may want it).

        • Haha I was going to advise you to build a bridge but to be honest, I am loving your rant.

I suspect that Asus advised them what was due in the 'sealed pack' but it turns out that the contents were different to that. Of course, maybe COTD did just pull specs from the air, but I haven't seen that in the past. And OF COURSE they will change the specs online now. They know what's actually in the pack now. I mean, if you are told by the supplier what is in the pack, then why would you find the need to open it?

It must be terribly exciting if you have just been hanging back ready to pounce on any further COTD dramas.

          • @AntMan76: COTD modified the specs from the offer last week, not just today's one.
            SHONKY!

          • @AntMan76: "AntMan76
Haha I was going to advise you to build a bridge but to be honest, I am loving your rant."
            Your too late:

And as I have already stated:
"It nots not my obligation to build a bridge, as there the business its up to them to show that they deserve peoples custom.

If COTD can prove by action that they are honest and provide bargains that are delivered in a timely manner then that would be good, they haven't so far to me.
