    no eu router.

Obligatory EU stock has power thresholds applied to the radios post

can we stop posting EU routers on OZbargain

    This has a 10Gbps WAN/LAN port and the other 4 ports (1 x WAN/LAN and 3 x LAN-only) are all 2.5Gbps. No cheaping out with 1Gbps ports.

Curiously, that info is buried half way down the product page. All of the focus is on the WiFi.

If you're upgrading your home network, then this might be worth considering. It also supports using two of these and connecting them with "wireless backhaul" or straight up connecting their 10GbE or 2.5GbE ports for wired backhaul between the units.

On paper this is considerably better than anything from GL.inet right now. The Flint 2 on sale for $182.34 (half the price of this Asus router) is their closest to this.

    I'm impressed with the specs.

    • My Samsung S25 and my wife's iPhone 16 refuse to connect using wifi 7 to the Flint 2, maybe fixed with a future firmware update

      • +2

The Flint 2 is a WiFi 6 router not a WiFi 7 router. That is why your phones are not connecting to Flint 2 with WiFi 7.

The Flint 3 is a WiFi 7 router.

        https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-be9300/#specs

        • It looks like the Flint 3 is not yet released except to beta testers if I’m understanding correctly.

      • Pashka is right. Also it's not something that can be fixed with new Flint 2 firmware.

    • I believe there are some issues with the firmware. Check SNBForums first. They were discussing half baked firmware.

I get that that the Wifi transmitting and receiving power is less being an EU specified router, but wow - amazing specs at decent price.
    Tempting.

    • Just flash merlin and change wifi radio region to Australia, this is doable since wifi5 routers
Even better I think with the Asus WRT 5.0 firmware (which comes with all new high end models) you can change the region without merlin. At least I can do it with my GT-AX6000 on stock firmware

      • +2

Merlin firmware and changing the region doesn't unlock the Tx power.

You need to use a github script. I don't know if the script works on the Asus Wi-Fi 7 routers.

That is what I understand as well.

  • Everyone always says you should avoid buying EU routers but even if you buy locally you get an EU router I got a TPLink one a few months back and it was the german model even though I picked it up from the GoodGuys locally lol

  • What affect are the lower power levels going to have? Is it just going to be slightly less WiFi coverage, or could it be significantly less? I am guessing if you live in a smaller space/house, it might not matter too much compared to a big property? I am seriously considering this deal.

What affect are the lower power levels going to have?

Less wifi coverage. A non issue for a smaller house or if you’re bridging/meshing

      • Thanks.

If buying from a different region, are any other regions worth considering?

New Zealand seems almost identical. Would US also be a good option for Tx power levels?

        • Yep

  • Did anyone manage to pricematch at any big box vendors?
