  • Cash only or they still accept cards?

    • I didnt ask but there was still a sign at the register saying they accept cards with minimum purchase (I think around $15).

  • My office is opposite this shop, and I believe this closing down sign has been there for a good couple of months. I wonder if they will really shut down.

    • I spoke to the owner and he said last day is definitely Tomorrow.

    • The discount increased from 25% off to 40% off this week.

    • LOL , I have seen a lot of Closing down sale that is not really a closing down sale … SOMETIMES its just a ploy for the people to buy their product or if they want to clear everything up

      • This time I think it is the real deal - shop fittings are also for sale, and I you don't see them doing a roaring trade normally…

        • Ive seen closing down sales that last for years, the reason being is they have no lease and could be kicked out any time, but in these hard times that will never happen…

      • Rugs-a-million have been closing down for over 10 years.

Some of their products were very expensive to begin with.
Pump adaptor set (for beds & balls) $5.60 is available elsewhere for $3.49

  • Go and experience the last of the old hardware stores. It's a step back in time. Long before Bunnings took over the world.

You might even find some products made in Australia or America .

Take your kids and a camera. It will be like seeing Halleys Comet or the moon landing. The kid will tell his kids.

    • Unfortunately most of the hardware there is still (IMHO) cheap quality stuff.

      • I did buy a set of jump leads there in an "emergency" once. Not bad quality but bloody expensive. I was borderline in getting a cab to Bunnings Artarmon.
The rent must be pretty expensive for the premium location. Hard to survive given the size of the shop and the competition from the big boys.
Remember when North Sydney had a couple of other hard wares. My wife brought my leatherman from one in in Walker Street (. I think) she still talks about that as one of the best shopping experiences ever. The old fella took her through the whole process and was as excited as her with the present. Still the best present I have ever got.

The local asian gift shop near me has a permanent closing down sale as its store sign. When quizzed on whether they were closing down by yours truly, they laughed and said no.

I guess this is how some people do business.
In other news, I had a local hardware store near me close down. I can't believe anyone ever went in there. I think it was a front for some narcotics operation 'cause they sure weren't pulling in customers in the years they were there, and all I got were shonky looks when I was there once to ask for tools.

    Creepy.
