How many MAH are the Varta batteries vs the Duracell ones ?

      • +3

Both are roughly zero mega-amps. (Case matters in SI units)
But they are all much the same in capacity. I've had trouble with some no-name or house brand leaking, so just use Varta now.
Duracell and Energizer are horribly overpriced by their Australian importers.

edit: Ikea is fine too, if you don't get lost for three hours in the Ikea maze. They are probably made by Varta.

    • Is there no AAA deal like this?

      • yes.. i just got 3x40 AA and 2x40 AAA.. same price

just ebay search it.. or go to their ebay store.

        • just ebay search it..

Why put it in the title if you can't be bothered posting the link ???

        • Thanks

Amazing, I didn't know about these Varta alkalines from Bunnings! I've been waiting for a cheap non-rechargable AA post for a year now and this is it!

Do you know if they leak from long-term installation?

  • +2

duracell have replaced my equipment when their batteries have leaked.. i will always buy duracell now..

    • Interesting. I think i need to call them, i just had Duracell destroy my Oral B timer.

      • it was with MAGLITE so im not sure.. but i think they test it to make sure you havent had any other batteries in them, and you need to leave the duracells in it that destroyed them.

        • MAGLITE have a life time warranty, they would have fixed it too.

  • Or IKEA has 10-pack Alkalines for $2.99. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/search/?query=+Battery+alkaline which ranks at the same level as the Varta Long Life in the battery shootout at http://www.laurinieminen.com/index.php?page=projects&id=batt… . Duracell Plus ranks a few positions above both but not worth the extra $4.75 per 40 pack for it.

  • Energiser are way better, but the good thing about the Duracells is that they recharge easily.

    • +1

      Energiser are way better

No, just marginally better in capacity. Unless you mean the Lithium ones.

  • Works for me, thanks

in terms of performance/price bunnings vartas can't beatable.

    • I bought some Varta ones from Bunnings for a reticulation timer at home. It worked for 4 days before it started flashing 'low battery'. Put Duracells in and it's been going for around 6 weeks now (the manufacturer says to change the batteries every 3-4 months), so I personally won't be buying Varta's anymore (and yes, they're the alkaline ones).

How about these Utilitech batteries at $19 for 100. Shipping at $8.95. (19c per battery pick up, 27c delivered)

Utilitech 1.5V AAA Premium Alkaline Batteries 100 Pack

Supremely high price per charge, bro.
You really need to look into rechargeables, I reckon.

    • The problem I used to have with rechargeables (NiMH) a few years ago was that if you charged them in advance, they didn't have much of a shelf life, so weren't in good condition when you needed them. So I went back to alkalines (not that I use a lot anyway). Are the rechargeables better these days?

      • Are the rechargeables better these days?

Absolutely. Look into the eneloop batteries.
I posted a deal a short time ago from some selling on Amazon.

        • Thanks. I'd noticed the Eneloops seemed pretty popular here. I might give them a go.

  • Just make sure you use them in a reasonable timeframe.

I had 20 packs of Duracells I'd left in the garage for about a year under normal temperatures, and when I came back to them the electrolyte fluid had leaked out of many of them and even crystallised into a sand-like powder.

      Don't snort the powder.

I bought a pack of the 40 duracells a few months ago from Bunnings ( the ones with the chinese writing on them ) thinking this is good value.. but after using them found out that the majority leaked and like the comment above.

I have found this to be true with other people who have used them too.

I normally use it my wireless keyboard, mouse

I don't know if they cause harm ( potentially )to your devices

Never will I buy them again.. the duracell name for me has gone down the dunny, shame as there was an era where they were considered one the best.

  • Thank You Cheewy, Good deal no postage cost I have bought a pack.

  • Thanks Chewwy, good on you mate! Bought a couple of packs. Had Varta which didn't last as expected of alkaline. They also damaged two of my LED torchlights.
