Canon imageCLASS MF9220cdn Colour Laser Printer $849 RRP $1,999 Free Delivery

280

Can't see any expiry date but it does say "While stocks last".

Had a look around and seems like the average normal price is around $1500.

This one is really for businesses or anyone who does a lot of printing.
Text test print speed is fast at 12.8 pages per minute (spec has normal run @ 21)
Apparently not so good on photograph print quality, described as "mediocre".
Not fully Mac-compatible, Canon supplies Mac drivers for the printer, but the installation process is clunky; additionally, the scanner is not supported on that platform.

The majority of features are described in a review as "highly capable and well designed".

  • Nice deal for a small office. I prefer Ricoh over Canon for their MFDs.

Probably because this is a high-output type of printer and for the price it is exceptional quality. Most would not need photographic quality printing (most laser printers don't) and MAC compatibility many not be an issue for everyone. I guess its up to the buyer to work out if the limitations are a problem but the price is pretty good.

    • This would be more of a photocopier machine with fax and computer printing features rather than just having a scanner like a cheap MFP does. Talking about what's normally a $1,999 machine.

    • and, how is 12.8 pages per minute for business use? must be a slow business as my little brother does 20ppm.

      • That 12.8 pages per minute is only the test print. Normal print is faster.

The specs say 21cpm black/colour A4 print. That's the copy function.

Your little brother does 20 ppm (penetrations per min)… Thanks for the info. Nothing to do with printing.

  • I hope your job is not sales related!

He is way too honest to be a salesperson.

      • +1

I would have bought this but as half of our computers are Macs it wouldn't be appropriate, honesty is actually very helpful.

  • Now that's a serious laser printer.

  • +13

I prefer to be honest about what something can and cannot do.

It's then up to the individual whether something suits them or not.

As soupratt said, not many businesses would need to print high quality photographs and this one may just suit their needs, "mediocre" may be good enough.

As for Mac compatibility, I wonder how many businesses do rely on Mac's.
In any case, most things do have solutions to problems.

  • Just as I thought, its an expensive printer but the toner is quite cheap :)

  • +1

This is the kind of printer I'd love to have at home just to impress the guests.
"Here, let me print that up for you…"

I can't help but notice some negative reviews though:

  • Input tray is quite small (250 pages) for a photocopier/printer of this league

  • Would this printer be good to print out good quality stickers, posters and other small business needs?

  • Our office just changed over from Cannon because they were up to dodgies with CSG (basically nobody would take responsibility of our contract/machine). Happened a few years back but I haven't heard great things about Cannon lately (mainly printing quality and low volumes.

Hola at me if anyone is interested because we had all the major players quoting us (Xerox, Sharp & Konica-minolta)… Ended up with Sharp

    • +1

I can also vouch for Sharp when it comes to service and quality. A previous business I worked for used them an they were very reliable. When there was an issue they were more than happy to fix it in a timely manner.

  • Set of 4 toner cartridges CART317BK/Y/M/C 4 x $241 = $964 from Canon. Does this unit come with full set of full toner cartridges?

    • According to the description of the printer on this page it says this under the package contents. Seems to come with the 4 cartridges. Shows you exactly what comes in the package box.

      Package Contents
      imageCLASS MF9220CDN Multifunction Printer
      1 x Black Toner Cartridge
      1 x Cyan Toner Cartridge
      1 x Yellow Toner Cartridge
      1 x Magenta Toner Cartridge
      Manual
      Setup Instruction
      Phone Cable
      Power Cord
      User Software CD-ROM
      Registration Card
      Warranty Card

Any way Canon's price for those cartridges are a ripoff. For example there's multiple stores listed on staticice that are selling the genuine CART317BK cartridge for under $200.

CPL has it for $167.40. Still at that price kind of expensive in my opinion for a 6,000 page toner cartridge.
