NAS Enclosure $50 from GameDude (PATA/SATA/BT Download)

31

Hi
Haven't posted here before. Please be gentle. :) GameDude have a generic branded NAS device (Super Power) for sale for $50 (They state it is half price). Has normal NAS features, supports both PATA and SATA drives, plus BT download function and can act as network print server. MSY have similar (Ritmo branded) boxes for 70 odd bucks. Only caveat is that it has a 3 month warranty and I am not sure what chipset it runs. Hope this is some use to someone. Thinking of getting one myself to replace a linksys NSLU2 ;-)

Cheers

Thinking of getting one myself to replace a linksys NSLU2

You know if you put Linux on your NSLU2 - which is not nearly as scary as it sounds - it'll do BT and print serving, right?

  • This is a real bargain, cheap way to share files my only gripe is the Cpu's in the cheaper units just don't do the Harddrive any Justice as far as speed of Read/Write, as is the case with my old dlink. It struggles with even playing back 720P+DTS video through the network, and a 1080P video file forget it.

  • Hmm, without coming across too negatively, Gamedude has a rep for selling 'gray-stock' that is, items returned to them. 3 months warranty is the minimum warranty companies can provide on 2nd-hand sold products.
Putting those 2 together, ur paying $50 for something refurb'd or problematic with 3months warranty, vs. $70 from MSY with 12months warranty. Depends on ur definition of bargain i suppose.

    • Where everyones gets this rediculous notion that we sell used goods just because it cheap I will never know….
These are BRAND NEW sealed…. we got themn in a bulk warehouse clearance deal… Its 3 months warranty because we are making nothing on them and its older stock from the abovementioned supplier warehouse…
You guys want bargains but when they are delivered you get suspicious??

  • Wouldn't touch Gamedude. They are a company living in the past. They were good to deal with back in 1999.

    Slow postage.
    Bad customer service.
    Rude staff.

    You have been warned.

    • Sounds like COTD (even though COTD doesn't think that about themselves).
