Wow, SE offer better deal. Battle begins…

    Too tempting, ordered one.

    • -1

PC Byte is microSD, no? This is SD.
      Edit: nvm, both are SD.

      • This is MicroSD

      • They're both identical product, SE is much cheaper + free express shipping.

        • -1

          Oops, my bad.
This is Pro, the other deal is not. Both microSD. Have I got that right this time?

        • pcbyte also have this deal on their page. $49.95 + shipping cost.

          http://www.pcbyte.com.au/samsung-64gb-pro-80mb-s-class-10-sd…

        • +1

This is $2 cheaper and free shipping.

        • No, they're both microSD Pro, although the model in this deal claims up to 70 MB/s read speed while the one in the PC Byte deal claims up to 80 MB/s. They appear to have different model nos. so perhaps the PC Byte deal is a newer model?

The PC Byte Deal that PW linked to is SD, NOT Micro SD like this one - The picture is of an SD card on it's side (it fooled me at first glance too ;-)

Link is SD, and the PC-Byte deal is SD (with 80MB/s), this deal is MicroSD (with 70MB/s), that is why they have different model numbers uvbunny ;-)

        • Can you link to the PC Byte MicroSD that claims 80MB/s?

The only one I could find was this: http://www.pcbyte.com.au/storage-networking/flash-memory/mic…

Which is exactly the same as the one SE is selling, and also claims 70MB/s, but is selling for $68.

        • +1

You're right, I've posted the wrong link. In fact, they're selling this for $79.95

          http://www.pcbyte.com.au/storage-networking/flash-memory/mic…

SE is 40% cheaper than them.

        • +2

Damn, you're right oz-dave. I saw the picture of the micro-SD on the PC Byte deal, but then followed the link to the SD Pro card and didn't notice it wasn't micro-SD. Sorry to anyone that went looking for a non-existing 80 MB/s micro-SD card!

      • Shopping Express > PC Byte !

  • all the shops come out to play

    • Where is Mr Dick, 20% off sitewide?

  • This should get interesting! Battle for supremacy!

  • Damn I bought the other deal that was posted earlier :(

EDIT: Though this is only for my phone and I'd never record anything over 720P so I'm good I guess.

    • If they haven't shipped your order then you can cancel it and order this one.

    • I'm a bit concerned as my phone can do 4K recording, D:
Bought the other deal already too.. D:

      • Yeah, I thought 4K needed ~40MB/s writes, meaning the new gen would cover it, but this gen falls short. Could be mistaken.

        • My Z2 records a 190MB file every 30 seconds, and 90MB for every 15 seconds, if we round up to 100MB per 15 seconds, 6.67MB/s, 10MB/s write should be sufficient I think.

I wanted one of the fastest 64Gb microSD I could get for under $100 for my Windows 8.1 pro tablet, and so ordered the new Samsung Pro (MB-SG64D/AM) 90Mbps/80Mbps R/W from Amazon which has just started shipping. It cost me about $80 with shipping. It's a pity that these are the previous slower model.

    • 80MB Write speed.. that is insane. Can the devices it's inserted into actually support these speeds though? Not even sure my card reader can.

    • +2

I've got a Surface Pro that could use a micro SD. This is quite tempting.

      @Stryke
I'm looking for some advice in your comment, but I don't know what your point is. Are you advising that others pay $30 more for a faster one? Are you sad that there's either A) the bargain slower one, or B) the expensive fast one, but not C) a bargain fast one?

Maybe you're just telling your story.

      Would you suggest buying this?

      • +1

Since most tablets have a small amount of memory, getting extra fast memory is important if you plan to use it for programs rather than just music and movies storage.

        • +1

For some reason this benchmark seems to put the Plus (the one from PCByte) higher than that of the Pro (http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/microsd-cards-2014/-4-Ran…)

I understand that this is random write (rather than sequential where the pro is significantly faster), in these two other benchmarks http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/microsd-cards-2014/-6-Ran… and http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/microsd-cards-2014/-5-Ran… the plus is faster.

In the [6] Random Write, 4 KB (QD=1) [MB/s] case significantly so.

I was just surprised that the Plus is faster than the Pro in many of the things I intend to use the card for.

edit: I realise this isn't useful for you really and I should've replied to the parent comment (or to Iceman82). Also personally I would pay extra for speed for memory that I use often. Saves time (and makes me happier) in the long run.

        • Thanks for the clarification and extra info guys. Getting closer to pulling the trigger …

        • buy it (or the Plus)! [unless you won't use it for a few months]

    • That card you bought isn't a microsd. It's a full sized SD that won't fit in mobile devices.
Doesn't ship until May 23? Maybe you can cancel.

      SD http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Memory-MB-SG64D-AM…

The microsd is 'DA-AM', the one you referenced, 'D-AM' is full size.

      Microsd http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Adapter-MB-MG32DA-…

I can only find it on Amazon though, is it real?

    • Where's your source, MB or Mb? MicroSD's write speeds are usually pretty low the pro is rated at Up to 70MB/20MB R/W while the Plus is rated at 48MB/10MB R/W.

MB-SG64D/AM is a full sized SD, not micro sd http://www.storagereview.com/samsung_64gb_sd_pro_memory_card…

      • The new microsd is supposedly SG64DA-AM. It has 80MBps write speed. Quite a lot faster than the one being sold here.
The 32GB one is on Amazon for US$37. See link above. Not sure if it's real though.

  • +2

Purchased this 1 and got my order cancelled from PCByte.

    • How'd you do that?

      • +1

PM them or email them to cancel your order.

  • would this be good for my s5?

    • Yes

  • Damn, just bought a no-name one on eBay for less with a SD adapter. I'm assuming others are also buying these for their new GoPros?

  • +2

Anyone that already owns one care to do a h2testw test to find out the actual R/W speeds if they are close to the specs?

    edit: NVM, found it.

Using our Consumer Testing Platform, we measured transfer speeds from the Samsung microSDXC Pro Series 64GB with IOMeter. Sequential read speeds measured 66.26MB/s, while write activity hit 19.63MB/s. Random large-block transfers measured 62.24MB/s read and 19.29MB/s write.

So for an additional $8 (over the Plus deal), you get an extra ~20MB Read + ~10MB write speed for the Pro ver.

  • How long is shipping normally to Sydney metro? What's their promise time frame?

    • +1

If they ship your order tomorrow morning then you should receive it by Monday. It's usually 1-2 days within Sydney.

      • Thanks, that's pretty quick. Ordered one.

  • @Rep,

    This include full size adapter?

  • Read 70MB/s
    Write 20MB/s. Is this slow?

  • +4

    Any micro sd 128gb?

  • Thanks rep! Got one and curious to know if this comes with full size adapter too.

  • HI Rep

just about to hit the PayPal button, does it come with an adapter? which I need

    • No, it doesn't come with it.

  • Hi Rep,
Any deals on the Samsung EVO Micro SDXC 64GB?

  • Great deal, thanks Rep!

  • Great deal, tempting to buy 1 more as I bought one in Mar for $20+ more.
Beware of some individual ebay sellers selling fake cards as that was what happened to me, (tested the speed is like < 10MB/s, no way that is a samsung pro.) I have to request for a full refund and buy from another trustworthy sellers which cost more.
Shopping express is really good seller and I just bought the nighthawk ac1900 router from them last week when they do the netgear special.

  • too tempting. I thought I should wait for the Sandisk one with 80Mb read speed …
Bought one. will wait next time.

    • -1

      You mean these ones?

      • Hmmm… Samsung US site says R/W:90/50MB/s while the Amazon link says 90/80MB/s??

        • damn! you made me regret buying …
I did not know that Samsung has put out the new gen cards…
I was talking about the Sandisk one which is currently sold around $90 - $110

        • No regrets. Tech will always improve. Always buy depending on if you need it now.

  • +1

It seems that Samsung's new generation of MicroSD and SD card have higher read and write speeds and different design.

Card Plus changed name to Card Evo?

@Rep: r u selling the old generation? As on your website it specifies 70MB/s Read and 20MB/s Write compared to the speed of Pro version on Samsung website which is 90MB/s Read and 80MB/s Write? Additionally, your model number is different from new one on Samsung website.

    Old Gen: http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage-accessorie…

    New Gen: http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage-accessorie…

    • Hi willxiao0790,

Yes, this is the previous Pro series with up to 70MB/s Read and 20Mb/s write.

      Cheers
      SE

  • Thanks. Just bought one :-)

  • So this'll be fine for my Samsung Galaxy S2? I probably don't need a 64GB one though….

    • +1

Should be, I don't think the S2 can take advantage of the class 10, but it'll work for future handsets.

    • +1

Assuming the S2 supports SDXC. If not it will still work, but you will need to format it to FAT32.

      • +1

4GB file size limit for FAT32. Probably won't be an issue. Just sayin' is all.

      • +1

What FS to use for a new phone with 64 GB micro SD card?

      • +1

I have a 32GB inserted recently in my SII with no problems. You have to ensure you format it once entered though. Settings/Storage/Format SD card. Don't forget to Settings/Storage/Unmount SD card (unmounts SD card to safely remove the old card).

I was having some issues with my old memory card (not full capacity though) which may have been caused by a battery (was starting to swell). So, rather than risk issues tossed battery, and replaced the memory card too.

Don't know what I have done but copied all the photos from the old and new micro SD cards with no problem but (for some unknown reason) cannot copy the videos. At a loss there!

  • Good to use on a S4 too?

  • where's the deal for different capacity microSD's? Is it only coming out in the newsletter?

    • Hi Captain Nothing,

Revised the post. the promotion will feature on our saturday newsletter - more sizes will be available for Flash memories and SSDs in that promotion.

      Cheers

      SE

  • Can anyone recommend an app to benchmark my current SDCard read/write speed for Android?

  • I was looking at buying one of these - it appears to be the next gen of this Samsung Pro - Read 90MB/s, Write 80MB/s - http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Adapter-MB-MG32DA-…

The main difference being MUCH FASTER Write speeds (80MB/s vs 20MB/s) But maybe the extra performance is wasted on a phone, making this SE deal much better value ?

    • 4K video recording and running apps off the sdcard will definitely see the benefit of 80MB/s writespeed.

If you just use it for storage of music, photos and movies - even 10MB/s will do.

  • Refer to my comment here. Why do people keep saying the new card's write speed is 80MB/s just because Amazon says so?

Another source confirming it's only 50MB/s write.

    • Yes apologies, you are right I was wrong. The new card is 50MB/s not 80MB/s write. I corrected my post elsewhere but forgot to correct this one.

      • You're technically right as well because the other source I linked to did a real world test and hit 75.6MB/s sequential write speeds (close to 80MB/s) but Samsung themselves are claiming 50MB/s so I guess 50 is the guaranteed speed whereas anything above that is just a bonus and not guaranteed.

I'll let users make up their own minds. For now I'm happy with this deal as it's only going in my GoPro Hero 3+ silver ed. :)

        • This is probably the thing holding up the GoPro Hero 4…. a new class of memory cards are probably required to sustain writing 4K at 30fps (or higher).

        • +1

I ended up buying one of these 64GB (from SE) too. I figure for 90% of my needs the 20MB/s won't be an issue and if it ever is, say for 4K, I'll just record to internal and copy across. But I don't anticipate bothering with 4K yet. 1080p is still good enough for me.

        • Exactly my thinking before I pulled the trigger on this deal - buy it for your current requirements, worry about the "what if… ?", "but newer ones have X features", "it can do THIS…" issues later!

  • I've never bought a microSD card for mobile phones before…

Will this be compatible on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and a Sony Xperia Z Ultra?

    Thanks.
