Personally I think it's too underspeced to be useful. I would at least spend a bit more to get a device with more RAM.
Don't know, could be used as a kid's toy I suppose.

  • not bad for the price for a cheap tablet. Something i can get for my young nephews birthday coming up.Absence of the play store is abit dissapointing so does anyone know if Is there anything similar like this with similar pricing that has the playstore included?

    • But you can add the Amazon store can't you?

      • you can add playstore same way as you would install amazon store….

        • +1

How, Amazon is just an apk you install. What google store apk is around?

  • +1

better get the quadcore and 1 gig ram. i know it's double the price but with playstore…… than a rubbish

  • i might get one if it goes down to 17.
for now its just a brick to me x]

    • Maybe $5? ;)

  • so how do you install Apps on it?

    What ver OS is it?

    hmmmmmm

    • +10

so how do you install Apps on it?

you draw them on with a Texta

    • Amazon store.

  • At this pricing level, it puts the 7 inch android from BigW for $88 to shame.

  • LOADING WEBPAGES WILL LAG!!

(if it can load them at all. if it can start a browser at all)

    • As jv suggested, faster to draw them on with a Texta.

    • I can vouch for this… I have one, and browsing the web is almost unusable.

I considered buying todays $79 'better' version at Coles, but I had such a bad experience with this one I can't do it! I'll just put the money towards something better…

      • Do you know if Spotify works on it? Want a player for the mancave and this would be perfect!

        • I have it installed and running without any issues on the $34 device so should be no reason why it wouldn't work with the faster model available at Coles.

    • Various builds available for the Allwinner a13, just depends on what devices have been used. You'll need to do some checking before jumping in.

Oh, and obviously putting CM on it gives you Play Store…

      • And some builds can free up ram.

  • Officeworks Hornsby just told me that they were out of stock and the entire state is NSW.

However they had the $69 one. Is she getting confused?

    • That would be the next model, with playstore, but still not very good.
Just go to coles and get the A31-based 8GB model for $89 and enjoy it.

  • Capacitive touchscreen?

    • yeah……

It's hard to complain about an even vaguely functional tab that costs just $34 dollars, but even if you do manage to get the Playstore up and running there are apparently quite alot of apps that just don't play nice with Allwinner processors. A number of developers reportedly just threw their arms up in despair and gave up on trying to make glitch-free updates.

Worst outcome if you buy this and hate it is re-purposing it as a mini glass chopping board for use in the kitchen…

  • Hmmm. This tablet, plus this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.bluegaspode… plus some cheap speakers should give me another music output for my apartment-wide Squeezebox synchronised music system.
(assuming I can get the apk of that app onto this, which I should be able to do with some mucking about with Titanium Backup)

  • This could be my next mp3 player, but will it play FLAC files? pendo.com.au isn't saying, and it also seems coy about battery capacity. The 7" pads it lists don't mention a 1.2GHz processor.

    • I can confirm that it plays FLAC files.

      • Thank you. For the price, this seems way superior to any FLAC player on eBay.

  • Don't waste your money. Cheap crap is still crap.

    • Can you tell us your experiences with this particular tablet?

      • +1

Nah, he just has a lot of experience with crap.

        • Yes, that is factual. As have you, I am sure.

      • My experience comes from having bought the dual core version of this tablet, also on sale in Officeworks.

The dual core version runs itunes remote ok. It runs Homeseer remote ok. But lags for just about everything else, including browsing.

I hate to think what the single core version will be like to use.

Sometimes one doesn't need to actually have the experience to have an idea of what the experience is probably going to be like.

  • I may give it a miss because I doubt it will fit in my top pocket. Much depends on whether the dimensions quoted by Officeworks are for the tablet or the box it comes in. Again, pendo.com.au seemingly omits the dimensions.

    • If the 'top pocket' you're referring to is an inside suit pocket, it can/may fit. Weight of any 7inch tab is still an issue in my experience, but it depends quite a bit on the tailoring. Weight of tab in my favourite (really comfortable) suit does pull it off the left shoulder a bit.

Dimensions of this tab quoted in header look about right. Measure whatever pockets you're keen on filling/stretching/putting holes in, with confidence…

      • Good advice. Thanks.

  • None at Keysborough and staff weren't sure they had any to offer.

  • no stock at Yarraville store. Only one with Google store ($69) left

  • None at Wentworthville store

  • might be worth buying just to smash on the ground for a laugh

    • But anyone doing that would be really stupid …….. wouldn't they?

  • When we buy Allwinners, we are all losers!

  • Good E-reader???

    • +1

I'd doubt it. E-readers are best with e-ink screens. Or if you must go with LCD, then you'll want something with much higher resolution than this. Otherwise you'll just get sore eyes very quickly. Grab a cheap kobo mini if you want a cheap e-reader. There have been bargains posted on ozb for them recently.
