Olympus OMD EM-1 12-50 Weatherproof Kit (RRP $1899) $899 (Cash Back and Other Terms) @ JB Hi-Fi

741

Olympus OM-D EM-1 $1899 is the ticketed price at Jb.

Negotiated a discount of $300 for a purchase price of $1599

Used a onetime voucher code from JB mailing list - sign up to get mailed your single use voucher (expires this Sunday) for $400 off purchase price for a new price of $1199 - this is the price you pay at the counter (check their website for mailing list). Current ozb members not taking up the offer can offer their voucher in the comments for other keen members to use. The voucher is single use.

olympus is running a $300 cash back (12 week wait) for a total investment of $899

I've attached the receipt if it will help anyone with the negotiation /price match showing both the original $300 discount plus the $400 discount. You then need to claim the next $300 as a cash back.

You'll end up with aus stock with 2 year manufacturer warranty for $899. If you'd prefer the 12-40 pro lens or another prime lens, this deal will give you the best body only price plus a free waterproof kit lens to get you going. (Jb don't seem to offer the prokit)

MODS: please edit as required or move to forums if it's better there.

That is an amazing deal…great work on putting it all together and sharing

  • +4

    Well executed plan OP

  • wow. this is a great deal. i will be happy to take the one time voucher if someone wont be using it

  • +2

    Isn't ticket price $1799?

  • +2

I wonder if anyone will try claiming the cashback with the OP's receipt…

    • You'll need to get the OP's serial number first.

  • +5

You were pretty lucky, as the voucher states that the "$400 off will be calculated from the current ticket price".

    • +1

Yeah I just got one yesterday and had to pay the ticket price to use the voucher. Still a good deal at $1099 I think.

  • Happy to forward someone my voucher if they want…send me a PM

    • Sent

  • great work OP, nice use of codes, cashback etc.
probably better suited to forums unless a multitude of codes are shared here though.

Also, if you are fortunate enough to be able to buy JB HiFi gift vouchers at 5% off via group buying schemes, then that's another $45 off :)

    • +2

If the voucher was applied properly OP would not have got it at this price.

    • +2

Or even better if you have some of these giftcards leftover (23% off) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/127701

      • I'm waiting on a good JB deal to use my remaining ones too…

  • Ok, missed out on the first voucher I PM'ed about so if anyone is feeling generous, please send a voucher my way!!!!! :)

  • fyi the correct model is "OM-D E-M1" :)

so the voucher is not available anymore? ie. if i dont have the voucher i can only request from others?

    • I have the email voucher if you want it. I'm not gonna use it (even though I wanna).

      • meeee - got myself already no more need hehe

      • So if someone don't use it, please give me

        • Pm me your email I'll send you my email one

    • Just sign up to their newsletter. I signed up and got the voucher in my inbox 5 minutes later.

  • +5

Yes well done OP, you did well and got a great price.

But negotiating down and then using a one-time voucher, is that really a deal? Am i missing something here? The cashback part is old news..

edit: deal edited and voucher is available to anyone who signs up… that's a bit better

Still, I think you personally got lucky with your deal. You should edit the price to be $1399 and 1099 after cashback. IMO

    • Take OP's receipt, they might match it up. All about luck and negotiation skills. :)

      • Yeah I know that they might.

But I think they're more likely to laugh in your face. I think the OP got very very lucky based on the person who served them at the register. Happy to be proven wrong, but I think the OP is the only one getting this "deal"

        • Duplicate post. See below.

        • +1

I've also got a pic of the sales rep generated ticket showing $1599 (foresight for my OzB friends) which is what the register used to apply the discount. If it helps, and you want it, I'll host it but you should be able to get $1599 as a price match from my uploaded receipt already?

        • Appreciate that, but I honestly don't see anyone else being able to match this. IMO you got very lucky in that the person serving you didn't look at the Ts and Cs on the voucher for $400 off.

          the voucher states:

          Ticket $1799.
          $400 off with voucher!
Plus get an additional $300 off cashback after redemption*.
          12-50mm Single Lens Kit, 458863

your negotiated deal of 1599 is clearly not the ticket price. So you got lucky. Really hppy to be wrong but suspect that this deal is just your good luck and skill.

        • Baby beans which jbhf did you go??

  • +1

where do i get the onetime voucher code for $400 off ?

    • The voucher with code is a targeted offer sent to specific people so technically not transferrable, but its not like they care to check. So share the code please if you got one in email and not planning to use it!

  • Who wanna my voucher? First-come, first-served. PM me

    Edit: already given away

  • i need voucher!~~~~ pleaseee

        • +1

          Cheers man!appreciated
I can deal ticket price to $1606 but refused to apply the code from email cos the manager allows discount price without conjunction others.
Op may got lucky, I might try others Jb then

  • Can someone send a voucher please? Thanks.

  • voucher up for grab. PM me

    • pm sent - cancelled i got one already

    • Can i have it plz?0411427219

      • sorry voucher taken

  • Please give me a voucher. I want to take a phot with my thre daugther…

  • So what are the conditions of the voucher? Can it only be used one the em1? Don't now if I want to sign up

    • Yes only for the em1 single lens kit. The voucher states that the camera is $400 off $1799. So $1,399

    • Only on the OM-D E-M1 12-50mm weatherproof kit and expires 25/5

  • I think it will be more balsy if you guys go and price match Digidirect, which has it for $1398 lol

  • Fair price for a camera, the original price is so inflated.

  • That is ridiculously cheap. I am so tempted to go and do this and then just sell my OMD EM-5. Argh hold back the temptation!!!

    • Given how much the em5 has depreciated, it won't be a good thing to do. Too little improvement going from the em5 to the em1.

I have the em5 also, you'd be lucky to be able to sell the em5 body for 400 I think

  • this is silly question but please someone confirm if this will give better picture quality compare with my old pentax k-x

    • Sensor wise:

      http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Olympus/OM-D-E-M1

      vs

      http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Pentax/Kx

They will give you about the same image quality.

The Olympus is smaller, has 5 axis stablisation, smaller lenses. The kx still has a bigger sensor giving you better depth of field control.

    • +1

That depends on what you mean by "better". Better sharpness, better low-light performance, better bokeh, the list goes on.

You can compare the statistics of both cameras here:
      http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?produc…

And remember, the lens can make a huge difference too. Maybe a better lens would get you more value-for-money?
I don't have any personal experience with either camera, so the above is all the assistance I can give.

      • You'll get better bokeh on the Pentax by way of the larger sensor. Provided you're using lenses of a similar speed

    • the photo quality will not be a big difference.
The focus speed, however, will be much much much faster.

  • Need a Voucher ????PM me

  • +1

Voucher is easy to get but the 300 discount… I don't think so…

    • How to get it done?
It appears error all the time I tried sub?
      Anyone has this situation?

  • So what was the final price excluding cashback?
Is this better than digi direct deal?

  • EDIT: nevermind :)

  • +2

Ok guys, I tried this at my local JB Hi Fi here in WA. The OP got lucky. You cannot negotiate the price and then use the voucher. You have to pay the full ticket price (currently $1799).

From I was told, apparently the 'bonus' price is a deal JB have with Olympus Australia (i.e. they are getting a discount/rebate on the stock sold).

    • +1

Seems logical - Thanks for reporting back. DrBuckyBalls below got the deal honoured at Geelong though, so it's still avail. Good luck.

    • Even though you're just passing on the message but that's bullshit, if a local retailer like digidirect can sell the same kit for $1398 everyday, JB are making shit up or their staff are tricked.

      • Just to be clear. The digidirect deal was for the body only. With the lens digidirect are at 1698 before cashback

  • Even at the ticked price of $1799, that's about $100 more than other retailers so in effect the $400 off voucher makes the camera $300 cheaper than others.

Plus, there's still the $300 cashback from Olympus so final cost will be $1099 yes?

  • Op, which jbhf did you go??

  • Waurn ponds VIC no go but market square geelong matched it. Fantastic service and super helpful manager and staff. Code I got from sign up didn't work but they sorted it anyway. Fantastic post. +1

PS. Lens not to be confused with 12-40 2.8 pro kit. But great deal from any angle.

    • It is still a good deal for $1099?

      • -1

        Before or after cash back?

        • after cash back.

Is the lens worth $200 as I could have got the DigitDirect deal last week.

        • Lens $350-450 worth.

    • Can you post your receipt? I might go back and ask again, this time I'll have two receipts that confirm the price.

    • +1

I also went to that store at 7.30pm. But sales refused to honor that price. He said they checked with head office, and 1199 was a wrong price. You are so lucky.

  • Anyone wants the digiDIRECT offer body only from me then pm me. I got that too.

  • +1

I tried before negative the post. The op just got lucky

  • Ok if I buy from ticket price 1779 then less 400 =1399,will I get gst back from this amount if I go overseas?
And then I will get $300 from Olympus?

    • You get GST back from the $1399 correct, but you obviously can't be bringing it back in the country as it's above $1000 you'll be slugged with GST again upon entry.

Anyways if you take this deal as:

$1799-$400 then it's not that much of a bargain as digidirect sell it for $1398 as their everyday price, the difference is only $1 but also buys you more time to wait to see if digidirect ends up with another sale again, furthermore you could go into digidirect and haggled a bit even.

      • How are you getting DigiDirect eveyday price of $1398? From the page I see, that's the price after cashback, not their ticketed everyday price. Note the asterisked price.

http://www.digidirect.com.au/slr_cameras/olympus/olympus_om-… Or is there some other offer they have?

      • You don't need any original packaging, just the item to get the gst back through TRS. Its not difficult at all to get back in claiming you took it with you initially. The only record you received the gst back is on the receipt and your bank statements.

      • +3

Brother is going to buy it hey? taps nose knowingly Is he also going to store it at your house and pay you some time in the future ;)

        • Hohoho. That was my play but my brother does need a good camera as he does a bit of landscaping and he takes crap photos with his point and shoot. $300 for a not too old D5100 isnt a bad deal for him and I get to keep this new toy! Its a win - win situation.
