Apple MacBook Air 13 (Latest Model) - 4GB/128GB $950, 4GB/256GB $1108 - Free Delivery - DSE

1130
WEEKEND12

It appears DSE have 10% of the latest MBAs this weekend, and the "WEEKEND12" 12% off coupon stacks on top.

Could be a mistake, but I have ordered one and hoping for the best.

Hope posting this doesn't put the kybosh on my order…

I suspect they will dick you around. Keep us up to date.

    • +1

      Didn't get dicked.

  • Sorry, deleted

I just tried it and got Coupon code "WEEKEND12" is not valid.

  • Oh.. the AIR does work, but the PRO and others don't. Isn't PRO the latest?

    • eh pro and air are two difference class of machine.

Do you even know about mac or just buying it to look good?

      • +43

        To look good…

        • +9

          Don't all Mac buyers?

  • I tried, it works, but I no want, want the Pro. Code works on 11.6" also.

  • Shame it doesn't work with Macbook Pro but great deal for Macbook Air. Fingers crossed you get it! :)

    • Yea I want the pro too. Pro has retina display. Air won't have it till the next model is out rumored to be end of this year..

  • +1

Excludes Apple iMac, Macbook Pro, iPods, iTunes, Apple branded accessories and selected Macbook Air products,

List of apple exclusion from website

    • Yeah the 12% off coupons have been working for the latest Airs, but not the older ones which were priced a bit cheaper.

  • Hey guys, if theres any problems with the Macbook Air, do we take it to Apple or Dicksmith?

    • +3

I don't know about you but I would rather take an apple!
BTW the latest model is the XB these here are XA

    • -2

Why do people need to ask this. If you have a problem with a product during its entire warranty period it is yup to the store to fix it. The only time you should be dealing with the manufacturer or distributor is I'd the store has shut down our they're dodgy. Talking about non grey imports.

Having said that Apple s warranty service is pretty good. You can take it to any Apple store and they will try and fix it there. By law the store has an obligation to be the interface between you andApple to fix any problem sthough

      • when the Manufacturer have a store/service center open to public, why not deal directly to the manufacturer? after all they are company who manufacture it & knew exactly what & how the product does! (and how to repair it)

but……the Asus service center in Port Melbourne is the worst I've seen!

        • If you take it to the store it will still be fixed by the manufacturer. If the repair centre is close by that's fine but if you have to send it away like with hard drives, the store should be doing what they are obligated to do by law.

Domayne West Gosford have the Macbook Air 11" 4GB/128GB for $898.00 advertised in local paper

  • -4

I suspect these are the mid-2013 models, not the latest model.

Macrumours report the new early-2014 models came out 25 days ago. The Apple AU store is selling the base 13" 256 GB for $1399. I doubt DSE would be selling this brand new model for $1107.92. Wikipedia reckons the only real difference between last year and this year is the CPU… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_Air#Specifications

So if you want last year's hero then buy this deal.

    • +1

Hate to be the guy blindly defending his deal, but…

If you look at the DSE site, they have two MBAs listed at each specification level - the older 2013 model which in the case of the 13/4/128 is $1099 and the newer (presumably 2014) model which was $1199, but 10% off this weekend and an additional 12% off with the code.

Pretty sure some people on whirlpool have confirmed getting the 2014 model from DSE (and hardly much of a difference if it is last year's model).

      • +1

        Then I stand corrected.

Even if it was the model from 2013, the showstopper for me is 4 GB of memory.

    • +1

Catalogue #XA1169 is the newer 2014 refresh for the 13" MBA 128GB (so by logic #XA1170 is the newer 256GB). I bought the 128GB a few 12% off deals back. :( Anyhows, DSE already discounted their old 2013 MBAs so WEEKEND12 doesn't work on them.

Good luck to the OzBargainers who are going to take a chance. :P My order was dispatched the next business day and shipped overnight via Star Track. If you don't see the same treatment it might be wise to contact customer service after a week or so to either complain or seek a refund.

$950 for the 13" base model is well worth it. The Windows/Ultrabook side has nothing that comes close to the MBA in terms of value for money. :(

      • Surface Pro 1 was very cheap…

        • Can't really compare something with no keyboard and >5 hours of battery life

Not knocking the surface but they aren't really comparable.

        • is ASUS Transformer any good?

  • +1

I bought my Macbook Air in late 2010 with 256GB SSD.
It's such a shame that the default configuration SSD capacity isn't 512GB or larger…

  • I hate to be a party pooper but if you run a search on the catalogue number XA1169 it can be found from 2013 well before the new MBA 2014. DSE could be updating products with the same catalogue number and pushing the old stock to a new catalogue number though but how likely is that?

    https://www.google.com.au/search?q=dicksmith+XA1169&newwindo…

    • +1

If you bothered to check the cached links, you'll see that they include the 13" MBA for $1079 (after 10% off) in the products page for some reason, and it's marked as "THAT'S 10% OFF Online Exclusive Offer Offer ends 26-May-14". Either Google or DSE is acting up, but it's not XA1169 from 2013. So for some reason the current sale/models are appearing in cached links.

I ordered #XA1169 ~two weeks ago. This was what came. http://imgur.com/OJJTMNV.png

      • -1

so you ordered a XA model and you got a XB…

        • Catalogue number =/= model number but I should've made that clearer.

DSE's catalogue numbers start with #XA as far as I have noticed…

  • Can anyone confirm whether this is the Latest model?

    • read the other posts, its covered.

  • +1

These are a great price and ideal for Uni or anyone that wants battery life at around 12 hours of light usage, plus some actual CPU power when needed.

The rumoured MacBook Air with Retina display isn't likely to appear this year without a drastic redesign, weight gain or reduced battery life.

    • The new Broadwell CPU's were delayed, I don't see Macbook's putting out the next form-factor without the new CPU and its benefits to suit.

Me thinks smaller than the 11 with the 12" screen and ~12mm thick.

For <$1k, I'm happy with my 2014 11 MBA I bought a few weeks back. Apple price match, so get the 10% off from Apple for better warranty if required.

  • got last year's model 13" 128GB for around $980 and still happy with it for the light weight, durability (dropped several times), especially the long long battery life :)

  • +4

+vote for the OP putting this up, knowing that it may backlash.
That's true commitment to the ozB way.

  • +1

Damn it. I just bought my Macbook Air 13.3 256GB for $1246 last Sunday from DSE. Is it possible to get some refund?

    • -2

      owneddd.

    • i'm not too sure, but whatever you do, dont use "change of mind" as a reason as they strictly say they wont take that

    • +2

I think you can within 2 weeks, just tell them the reason

    • +4

Tell them you joined ozbargain 6 months ago and have finally seen the light - never pay full retail.

      • Thank you. I'll try. Hopefully, I can make it.

        • Got a NBA 13 inch, 128 gb from Dick smith on the 12 % oft sale a while back. And then after a week , I thought the battery life was terrible and returned it. Though the store I bought was willing to exchange it happily , the store close to me ( the Perth City one , to be precise) acted dicky but still exchanged it .
After a week, the screen began flashing (My luck, the 2014 model was out that week) and when I went to the same store, the staff over there tried to highlight the 'dick' part of the store again. Then, I asked for a refund and the Manager happily gave me back the money. Then bought the same unit for $30 more at apple store.

As per your problem, tell them it has terrible battery life or something else and they should be happy to refund it. They have the 2 weeks money back policy.

        • +4

An NBA 13 inch? Sure hope he was gentle..

    • Just back from the store. The sales won't do it at all. Asking me to call online service to get store credit. Anyone did it before?

  • Can these be upgraded to 8GB?

    • nope

  • is it possible to ask Apple for pricematch for the 256gb specifically? halp.

    • Nopen they won't . I've tried. Better get from Dicky Smith.

  • What GPU do these have?

  • 11inch comes down to an amazing low of $870.32

    • Mm.. not sure if you'd want the 11. For a few dollars and grams the screen, pad and battery are a fair bit worse.

And no I don't think Apple would match these prices!

      • i thought they can do pricematches and stuff?

  • weekend12 doesn't work for me at checkout.

    • Worked for me just then.. paid with Paypal.

      Maybe it's case sensitive?

    • If I login it doesn't work for me. When I logout it's fine.

  • Don't forget to buy your 12% discounted gift cards first https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/145532

    • +1

this discount all up is crazy thats like 31.85% off..

    • A post on the DSE gift card deal says you can't use the giftcard online:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/145532#comment-2006544

Were you able to use it online?

    • Man just bought 2 airs

      • Is that hot and cold airs?

        • Yes sir

      • +1

Makes me so sad this is over before I saw it.

  • not working anymore

    • Seems so; says "Coupon code "WEEKEND12" is not valid" for me.

      • we're late.. sighhh..

  • Doesn't seem to work now.

    • won't work for me too

  • Decent price for a decent laptop.

  • so let me get this right, if everything still works like it was 2 hours ago. it would be 10% + 12% + 12% (giftcards) + 9% (trs assuming you travel).

thats a whooping 36.57% off! hahah

    • Vouchers can apparently only be used in store

    • +7

I fail to see why every time a deal comes up like this people mention the 9% TRS component. Is everyone flying out of Australia every couple of months?

      • -4

you can give you receipt to a friend who is. either give them your product for a week or fill in forms which dont require you to show the product.

        • +6

Sure I'd love to lug your electronics around internationally ;)

  • Deal is expired

  • did any one receive an email saying order cancelled?!?!

    • Nope.. I hope I don't
Was there a reason for the order cancellation ?

      • have no clue why… have to contact customer service to find out why and hopefully they still honour the deal

  • +1

What the heck… Still has the 12% off banner with it ending tomorrow night at 12 midnight. Good work Dick.
