Please test my amazing file sending website

Well I think it's ok :) I would really appreciate some feedback. The concept is pretty simple for now you either send a single file or a folder of files and that generates a unique webpage address to hand out - It can be password protected and have a description. It's basically more targeted at businesses as you can brand the web page with your own logo. I need some good or bad feedback!

Looks great, I'd put something in your TOS saying that you're not liable for any illegal content posted to your servers.

Thanks. Haha now I want a one!

      • now i want one

  • Tried to upload a self extracting installer (.exe)
and got You are not allowed to upload that file type

So what file types are you allowed? It may be best to include that into the dashboard.

    • +1

I've allowed what is to be the top 100 files commonly shared. I wanted exe's but my developer said it could open the site up to vulnerabilities. And then if you are like me in my work the next issue will be iso's and the 150MB limit.. Eventually I will add pro features though.

Good idea, I'll get an FAQ page linked.

Thanks for giving it a go.

      • Didn't like epub or mobi files either.

This is an amazing idea! So simple to use and the interface is really appearling

    • Thanks Peter! Are there any features you think would improve it?

  • Can I have free lifelong membership when you become successful :)

    • You could just use pre-existing services like Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive. Google Drive gives you 15GB, which is pretty generous given that it's free.

      • Yes for access to your own files Dropbox is awesome. I just want to do the sharing part the best.

        • +1

you can right click and generate a public link for any file in your dropbox.
Paid google app will also let you custom logo the site that opens up.

You've also got sites like hightail and dropsend which essentially do the same thing.

The main strength here is the clean 'only one job' interface. looks good. =)

    • Haha sure. 2GB will always be free, but I do need help testing what will probably be a pro account.

      • i pick me C:

        • I asked first :<

        • hehe I'll update this site when the new features are added. This community is great.

  • Why .ESTATE?

    • +6

I thought up the the site after frustration with real estate agents not being able to send me large files, I know there are other sites out there but I thought I could do something different. And Estate also means property/possessions so it became send.estate. There's probably some stigma on using new domain names but the internet is running out of .coms!

  • Great site. A few feedbacks from my end:

After uploading a file, clicking the back button re uploads same file.
The send file button, when viewed phone, is misaligned.
The copy link button after link generation, does not copy the link (tested on chrome for android)

    • Thanks for the android view. I noticed issues with ios too that I will follow up.

  • it's awesome! simple and easy to use.
hope you are successful with this

    • Thanks!

  • Well done & good luck.
Thought about promoting the idea on "Dragons Den" ? to their people.
Don't give up - a few tweaks to the original concept could make you the next multi-millionaire. Go for it !!

    • Thanks :)
Haven't thought about investers at the moment!

  • Hi Jaybot,

I haven't tested your site fully but the solution you providing my organisation is currently looking for something similar but what actually they want is a complete document management system.

Like we want to send documents from our existing CRM system or via Outlook to clients but in secure and encrypted documents or something like your site where we can upload the documents for the client and your site might have some plugins by which we able to generate random password and link for the client and provide them the link with the password via outlook so client be able to access documents secure way and upload them back or edit them according to their wish and we get notified.

There are little more requirements to it but i hope you get what i mean?
If such functionality you think you can provide in short time i mean 1 or 2 months time then please pm me so i will pass on your reference to decision makers and all i can hope is good luck.

    Thnaks

    • currently we are using Redmap but its not complete document management system its document archiver and not providing us full solution. We also considering Microsoft Sharepoint or any other alternative rather cheaper solution.

      • Hi Birdmaster,
I'm not sure if I could provide everything your organisation needs and within that time. Mainly I don't plan on adding client collaboration that you need at this point.

I am planning client software where you can select documents from windows explorer and generate a send - then e-mail via outlook or via the webserver. This requires some backend work that could make plugins easy.
Notification is already built in but that will be improved.

    • Hi Birdmaster,
I would recommend going for Alfresco. It is a way to manage content across the offices. Though it is open source there are many companies who are using that solution. I think this solution fits your requirements. Currently my company is working on a project for a client who is using Alfresco. All the documents are on 1 location and can be accessed across remote sites. You can print documents using local printers and also get notification which user has printed the document or which user has made changes on the documents. You can have set permissions as well. Alfresco is much more advanced and can be developed a lot. It is also cheaper than the MS Sharepoint.

      • Hi psyherin,

        our requirments slightly differ
1.As we need a system which can collaborate either with our existing CRM or Outlook, so we can send to our clients confidential information or documents as encrypted and secure way so some how customer can get the document without much trouble.

        or

        1. We can upload the documents on some secure portal, or cloud document management system where client with easy access to get these documents with some kind of log in for each and individual client and some how this cloud platform provide us some plugin so the moment we upload a document we get a unique indexed reference link with password which we deliver to client.

Currently we have Redmap but this system doesnt allow us to at the moment to provide unique and individual access.

        Redmap is only document archiver.

we have to get the document and attache to emails and send to client which are not very secure i guess.

        • Hi,
I reckon Alfresco can do that as per your requirements. You can upload the document on your portal and clients can get easy access to these documents which will keep a log for each user activity (access, edited the document, removed the document, notifications) and it does create unique indexed reference links. Also emails can be sent through alfresco which basically uses Outlook to send emails out.

You can have Alfresco server in your office or you can have Alfresco as SAAS model.

        • I dont know is something wrong with their website

          please look at this http://www.alfresco.com/

Site is just brooken every thing is all over the place. Their first impression is not good.

So far tried with Chrome and IE both looks bad.

        • Hi,
I have just check the site and it is working fine. I have used all the internet browsers and the site seems to be working for me. :P

  • The site looks great! I didn't try out many of the features, just had a quick look, but I think you should try and push the part about being able to set whatever logo you want. There are already a huge amount of file sharing websites like this, but I don't think many at all will let you change your icon.

You could perhaps also add official accounts or something for organisations, so if an organisation wants to brand it and have a "verified" page, employees and their customers and such would know that it's an official channel. Just a thought.

    • I like those ideas :)

  • Good looking site, nice clean code too, like it, well done.

EDIT: Also that is one of my favorite greens when working with charcoal, if I had done the colour scheme, I would have picked the same too colours, so its a win in my book.

Make your header image click able n mobile view

  • My $0.02

    Tried it on Firefox 29.0.1
Browse button on dashboard (upload files section) is not visible in its full height.

    Overall, your application looks clean.

  • Good work
Are you hosting your own servers ?

    • Thanks - Currently hosted on Australian vps.

nice one, but my question would be how does this differntiate between the many other existing sites that do the same….that would be key to your success…

    good luck

    • Came here to ask the same question.

      What's your differentiating point?

      • At the moment it is a similiar, even dumber than some sites except it is much cleaner. I plan on adding features I want that will differentiate, and adding requested features the market needs. It will evolve!

  • Good work. Did you do the layout yourself or get help from somebody?

    • Lots of help!

  • This looks a lot like Ruby on Rails and bootstrap, is that what you used? It looks nice.

    • +1

Looks like ASP.NET 4 running on IIS 7.5 to me

  • this looks a bit like Citrix sharefile which is very focussed on business file sharing

    Should be wary of similarities

  • Mmm… I'm really loving the theme, and it works well with the subtle turquoise/green.
Only recommendation I would have would be to change the colour of the 'upload' button, to the turquoise used in the rest of the site as the current green looks out of place. Any colour that is completely different would be fine.

Took 4 tries before a document was accepted. The POST came back with a 200 on each attempt.

    Here's a few things:
    * Set up SPF and DKIM records
    * Maybe come up with a proper API rather than that mess of .NET
    * Freaking chatty
    * Lots of 404s

So basically, all documents uploaded are public as long as you have the URL and you have no way to restrict bots registering. Yup, you'll be popular but not with business customers

    • Thanks, kind of feedback I have been hoping for :) I will look into all the points. Discussing the API with my dev, I want other platforms to access it so it will be a must.

I am definately making the file downloads secure in next revision.
What was the file and size?

      • Just a few PDFs, 500KB and 1.5MB.

  • I'm too lazy to test it because I can't be bothered signing up. Looks really good though.

    • Hehe, that's ok.

  • Divi word press theme nice :-)

  • Once you're logged in and move a way from your dashboard (eg: to the homepage), there's no way to go back to the dashboard, unless you login again.

  • seems good and was about to use it to give away tickets but then realised that to do so i prefer something more anonymous where the recipients can also delete the files themselves hence went with my usual https://www.upload.ee - perhaps next time :)

    • aw nice, that will be a cool feature to add! I really like it.

Gmail marked my upload.ee as spam though, just let people know it may be in the spam box.

  • Have you seen this free opensource PHP platform for doing the same thing?

    http://www.projectsend.org/

    • Haven't heard of it. Playing with the demo now. I think it's a bit complicated.
