21

A simple way to use high security encryption on your files. Creates a self contained .exe file. The standard version for FREE save about AU$50.

Site says:
Silver Key is encryption software designed for sending confidential data over the Internet.

If you need to send sensitive data over the Internet you should encrypt it first. But what about the other side? The recipient will probably not like the idea of buying and learning some software just to decrypt your file.

No problem here if you are using Silver Key. Right-click the file or folder you wish to send and select the “Create EXE Parcel” command. Silver Key compresses and encrypts your data and adds a small decryptor program. Your correspondent does not need to install any decrypting program because the parcel already contains all the needed software.

If your demands are higher, you can use the Silver Key Parcel Designer to create more advanced encrypted parcels. You can add encrypted and unencrypted comments, create shortcuts on the target computer, request opening a file after decryption, and even include an uninstaller.

Silver Key fully supports automated batch processing and is ideally suitable for corporate usage. If you want to protect your data according to the HIPAA privacy regulations, our software lets you easily incorporate FIPS 140-2 -compliant encryption. Silver Key is the silver bullet for secure file transfer. It is a single-click solution if you want it simple, and offers a rich set of features when you want more power

Ideal for Secure Data Transfer

Silver Key encrypts sensitive data and creates encrypted parcel that can be safely sent over the Internet. Silver Key parcels can be self-extracting so the correspondent does not need to install any software to decrypt the data.

Easy to Use

Right-click a file or a folder and select ‘Create Parcel’. Silver Key will produce an encrypted file, which you can upload to an Internet server, send over your local network, or just attach to an email.

HIPAA-compliant

If you need to protect your data according to HIPAA privacy regulations, Silver Key provides effortless incorporation of HIPAA-compliant encryption into your existing data infrastructure.

Strong Encryption

Silver Key uses highly reputable Advanced Encryption Standard to protect user data, with its 256-bit encryption key far exceeding the HIPAA requirements.

To strengthen security even further, Silver Key supports FIPS 140-2 compliant mode using FIPS-validated CryptoAPI encryption engine.

Mistyped encryption passwords have likely killed more data than computer viruses. Silver Key uses a state-of-art password window that simplifies the process of password entering, and makes typing errors less likely to happen.

Feature Rich

If you want more than just encrypt a file, the Silver Key Parcel Designer is your tool. Use it to access the full power of Silver Key and create advanced parcels. You can add encrypted and unencrypted comments, create shortcuts on the target computer, and even include an uninstaller.

Asking people to trust exe files which only contain "documents" is asking for trouble.

Its more for internal / trusted people use. I doubt you would send info so sensitive as to need to encrypt it strangers who don't trust you anyway. You might use it to encrypt sensitive data that is backed up to your cloud service. So many uses really. And it encrypts more than just 'documents'. The .exe means the recipient does not to buy / install software.

Free. Easy. Open source. Transparent. Trusted.

  • If the recipient does not have any software installed, and just receives an .exe attachment, how do you ensure only the right person can decrypt it? The probably have to enter in a password, which means this is only marginally better than encrypting a zip file, and arguably worse as they need to be running windows, and be willing to let an untrusted exe run.

As belzucue mentions, if you want to transfer files securely, gpg is the way to go. Yes you have to install some (free, open source) software, but you can have confidence it works as advertised, and it's been around for decades. Your recipient generates a key pair, uploads it to a keyserver, or gives you the public key some other way, and then you can send 'em whatever you like.

  • "FIPS 140-2 -compliant "
There is no such thing, either you are FIPS 140 Level X validated or not. You cannot wrap a validated program and call your software validated.

Next, FIPS includes backdoored[1] primitives like Dual_EC_DRBG, so having your software validated is just stupid.

Sending .exe via email is just asking for trouble:
    * Gmail blocks them
    * There is no way for the recipient to know it came from you
    * An executable can do all sorts of nasty things when run.

    And then this:

Mistyped encryption passwords have likely killed more data than computer viruses.

You have no idea, you just made it up and your excuse will be: "I said likely, it doesn't mean it's true".

    This software is crap.

  • wow.. really? free of NSA backdoors? :)
