Beats by Dr. Dre Executive Headphones $199+Shipping at CatchOfTheDay

80

I don't personally like the headphones and think they are generally overpriced but there's no denying that they are really popular.

Normally $409 at JB so I would consider half price to be a really good pickup.

Here's a comparison on amazon $272.40USD so this is a fair bit cheaper than Amazon even, although the black ones on Amazon are $299USD

good price. if you have apple you need beats.

    • hahah. you poor, ignorant, brainwashed soul.

What a bargain! Worth 3 billion these days I hear.

  • Are these really worth $200 sound wise?

    • It depends on the type of of music you listen to I suppose.

    • While I know they aren't worth $400 sound wise they could well be worth the $200 price tag, there are a lot of Beats nay sayers because of the brand that haven't had a good listen to the headphones or just see them as a fashion statement.

When it comes to if they are worth it, these are the headphones you should be comparing them to although audiophiles may disagree with that choice.

      • +3

It's not that I disagree - having not heard them, but I have heard some of these (and understand they are regarded pretty highly).

Some ideas (and I do mean "some")

        Audio Technica A900X
        Audio Technica AD900X
        Audio Technica AD900
        Audio Technica M50
        Beyer DT770
        AKG

JB just do not have a good enough range of the headphones that should be considered.

Nor do many places, of course.

      • I haven't listened to what Beats have to offer, but if you're after the active noise cancelling feature, I'd compare them to the Bose QC15 or QC3. I wouldn't normally recommend Bose products, but their noise cancelling headphones get everything right. Active noise cancelling isn't an easy game.

TL-DR; No. You can get much better headphones and IEMs for $200.

No. I'd have to say $100 at most. The Audio technica M50, while it may seem like its a cliched recommendation, really does sound much better than any Beats headphone and does it at an appropriate price tag of ~$100. If you really do want to spend $200, I'd recommend getting your hands on some Beyerdynamics. Their open and closed headphones all are fantastic and I say this with all honestly having heard many a headphone and currently having just a DT990 Pro myself.

just tried one of this in the store..the sound is not really good.

  • +7

They still sell these? I thought hipsters had moved onto something more expensive with poorer sound quality…

    • +1

hmm i'd say these are/were more of a fad with "wiggas" than hipsters

      • and uni students. found mostly around their necks instead of on their heads lol

    • I thought poors had moved on from calling everyone and everything 'hipster' and ruining what was once an amusing term.

  • +5

get some audio technica ATH-M50 phones, much better sound imo. and cheaper!

Have you actually heard m50s against these cans? This is really more of a rhetorical question for all of us who spout beats hate. I find a lot of people just give their (biased) opinion on what they own (with the added twist of the legendary counterculture against Beats).

I'm no different - I have a poor opinion of Beats.

But it's based on what I've heard from others, not what I've heard from listening to them (because I flat out have not).

I would assume that there is a point at which beats are discounted enough that they are competitive.

      • +1

'it's based on what I've heard from others, not what I've heard from listening to them (because I flat out have not).'

All that needs to be read, there are amazing headphones out there but you can't base your opinion on sound quality just from listening to others (who may have never listened to them either).

If you want to bad mouth them then you need to have a listen to some and I'm talking about these and the pro not the basic solos or studios, try to be unbaised when you do because although they may just be for the trend for some they may also be just as good as their competitors in the same range.

        • I agree with you, but I did not say I bad mouthed them, I said that I had a negative opinion of them, without experiencing it to be sure. That doesn't extend to spreading that to others, I simply don't buy them

I suspect there are a decent amount of people on here that haven't really given them a chance and do post negative comments.

It's not going to be a very popular opinion :-)

(See above where I didn't poo poo your Sennheiser suggestion and merely suggested other brands that could be compared with).

  • +2

Better buy it now, before Apple starts charging $500 for these.

  • Still a bargain though

    • -4

Sure, and if I was trying to sell a gold plated shit for $400 and dropped it to $200, it'd still be a bargain, right?

      • One man's shit is another man's gold. In other words, some may think they're crap but many people think they're great headphones.. especially at this price.

  • +6

    Rubbishy headphones. Rubbishy price.

  • +1

All Beats headphones are over priced. It's not even worth 1/4 of their mark prices!!

  • +1

Beats are like a teenagers wet dream, that's the extent of it. I was being cheap and got a pair over a set of bose qc15s for a 15hr flight and all I could hear was an ever so slight hum which annoyed the livin shiz outta me.

    Are they real Or Fake????

I have some DT770 PRO (and some 990 PRO) and they didn't cost this much and I bet they sound better too.

  • +4

Apple buying Beats is the perfect match - form over function marries form over function.

They're rubbish, spend your money in a smart way, not on marketing.

(FWIW, they've got $18 worth of parts in them, which tells you a bit about the drivers.)

    • The next Apple Iphone 6 comes with a Beats headphone end up paying over the roof with a price tag of $1200. I bet those Apple fanboys will pay what ever the COST.
