  • Ok, I think this is a good deal:
HP mini 8.9" listed at $529… buy 2 cheapest items on the 'must buy' list, 2x backpacks at $49, then you get the HP mini for $321:
    "W5573 Mini 2133 Notebook 1.6ghz 160gb 1gb Xp Home 8.9" Wsvga $321.00"

So, the HP mini with 2 backpacks comes to $420.90.

Cheapest on staticice is $499 (no backpacks)

Note conditions at HT: "Notebooks are sold with a No Returns Basis. Check the returns policy for details".

  • I tried the site out and got this message on some of the laptops:

"Stock of some products in the Shopping Cart are no longer available at our Distribution Centre. An additional delivery charge not shown may apply to this order. A Customer Service representative will contact you to confirm before proceeding."

I guess that means some items are shop floor stock only.

Probably still a good deal depending on what you get. The Sony Vaio listed at $4289 shows in the shopping cart at $2227 once you add two accessories.

    • I've updated the deal to say that some laptops aren't available from their Distribution Centre. At those prices, I don't expect this deal to stay up for long.

  • all the macs are out of stock~~

ooops not really, still some available…

ooops again, maybe not… apparently non in stock….

can add to cart, but probably wont' have stock

  • wow. graet find. the macs are cheap too.

  • this is a great great find. some really cheap prices there. The HP mini being 399 is so damn cheap

    • You do have to take into account the cost of the 2 accessories that you have to buy together with the notebook as well.

  • this is mainly ex demo some new , just ordering mine sweet

    W2085 Dell Inspiron 1318 T8100 2GB DDR2 160GB DVD±RW BT 13.3” VHP $561.00

plus targus bag and ms mouse woohoo bye bye s10 :)

this is the cull before windows 7

woohoo mines unopened from vic , get in while you can

doh just confirmed i missed it be quick peeps

    • confirmed that the Sony VAIO VGN-TT17GN/X I got is not a ex-demo. Its brand new.

      • I got the same laptops and its not ex-demo.

        • so you are the luck one!

I have mine today, but it's ex demo.

  • +1

The mini note has been reviewed as a rather slow netbook since it's got a VIA CPU instead of an Intel Atom like most other netbooks.

The 600 gram Sony might be a better option for the extra money (it's $712) and looks gorgeous.

    • the sony is twice as expensive as the HP.

    • sony is 8 inch = too small screen

  • Great find!
Just wish that my damn tax return would hurry up … grr :(

  • most has run out..

  • Don't bother much with the lower end stuff, it's all gone, spent quite a bit of time at the Osb Park store and most of it is gone…higher end stuff you can still find from that list…

  • Rang HT and all Macs and Dells are gone :(

I picked up the last HP 6730S!! w00T!

The sales guy said they still have heaps of Acer/Toshiba left (the cheap under 1k ones) so there's still hope!

    C2D goodness for $631.00!!! yay!

  • Picked up the T500 for $1300 delivered with the 2 back packs .
    excellent deal .

  • damn had three macs in my cart, then logged in. products removed from cart, not available online anymore.

good luck to those who got them…

    • Please read through these conditions before proceeding:

      • Strictly one notebook per customer when purchased under this promotion.

      Very greedy. :p

    • hahahaha Karma Karma Karma…

that's what happens when u try to get 3 lol!

  • haha, I bet HT are selling heaps of backpacks today.

  • $1600 for the toshiba r600 (inc. 2x backpacks + delivery) is a bargain…cheapest on shopbot almost $3000. But i think i'll have to pass….dont really need it…arghhhh

    • precisely what i was checking out… bloody ripper price for that model… that and the m700 too

      • its the perfect portable notebook and i've had my eye on it for a while….but even at half price i dont really need it lol…

  • [Double Post]

  • did someone say officeworks price match? NO? lol didnt think so but couldn't resist, sorry =)

    • LOL I don't think it'll work, since you have to buy 2 accessories from HT before you can get the special price. Maybe if OW has the exact same accessories + the exact same notebook + harris still has the stock for OW to pricematch…then you'd get an extra 5% off! Ultimate Bargainism?

  • Placed an order for the Sony VAIO VGN-TT17GN/X AND 2 x Microsoft 6000 Laser Mouse (cheapest accessories). Laptop went from $4289 to $2227 and the total was $2326.90. I got a call from the Fortatude Vally shop within 10mins to say that it was ready for pickup! w00tw00t! $2227 for a ultra portable laptop with Blu-ray burner & HDMI connection is an amazing price!

    • nice, wish i had that kind of money to throw around haha

    • Display Type 11.1" TFT

      Max Resolution 1366 x 768 ( WXGA )

kinda useless for blu ray since full hd is 1920x1080 res

and if ur planning to hdmi out, why pay 2.3k when u can get a blu ray player for lik 300-400 bucks?

      • Because its portable, plus its a burner… eh end of the day I have the money to burn plus its not often you see a Sony go for more the 50% off. :)

        • well if u got money to burn then i can't argue with that hahahaha!

but yeh the r600 is way better in terms of price and performance minus the blu ray writer

          • @neosin: The R600 was my first option, but it was soldout by the time i saw this bargain.

  • Fingers crossed I picked up a HP 17in lappy :)

  • I caved and got an Acer Extensa 5620
    CPU: Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.4 GhZ)
    Memory: 2GB (1x2GB)
    Hard Drive: 320GB*
    LCD: 15.4” Wide (1280x800) WXGA
    Optical: DVD±RW(±R DL)/DVD-RAM

Connectivity: Integrated Wireless a/g/n + Bluetooth
    Other: 2x USB 2.0 + Integrated Webcam
Operating System: Genuine Windows® Vista® Business

A little heavy for a portable but the price is really good.

    • have you found out how heavy?

  • -1

Good to know but all good stuff has gone before 9:00am this morning ??????? I felt miss out BIG TIME!!!! :)

  • Grrr.
    No laptop in stock.

I still don't know why they would process an order that their website is showing to be in stock at a business centre and cancel the order when they find out they have no stock.
The product was also taken off their website shortly after.

I would not have ordered a product that was not shown to be in stock.

Was ready to go down to business centre and pickup my laptop :-(

    • yup, their online stock system is seriously flawed!

a product could be gone and it will still show as in stock!

      that's HT for ya :P

  • I just called the Osborne Park WA location and they said there is NOTHING left. Hahahaha.. talk about you snooze, you lose. Damn and I got so excited. Grr.

    • yeh i mean if u needed a notebook, damn they were some good prices

  • so whats left?

  • While there are some great prices listed here we should all be aware of why they are so cheap. (and mostly unavailable!)

All of these models are out of date. The manufacturers has recently released significant upgrades for similar prices as the original rrp of the older models.

this is also the reason they are stating a no returns policy!

"Notebooks are sold with a No Returns Basis. Check the returns policy for details"

Of course 'no returns' is absolute rubbish - anyone selling anything in Australia is legally bound to offer a full refund on production of a receipt - big businesses like to scare off customers with talk of 'no returns' and '1 year warranty'.

Provided you have used the product to the manufacturers guidelines (eg, Dont drop your laptop in a swimming pool) you are entitled to a refund no matter how long ago you bought it. - Know your consumer rights!!!

    • While they might me discontinued lines, the bargains were definitely there to be had for those that got in early like the Macbook/Macbook Pro's, Dells etc.

I'm pretty happy with the 17in HP for $1250 delivered (including the the two accessories). I really don't see any T9300 laptops for that price let alone with the 3 year onsite warranty.

Also the no returns means just that. ie no return because you changed your mind, didn't like the colour or it does blend in with your decor etc etc. They will of course honour warranties or if the item is not as advertised etc.

Also a refund on production of receipt is rubbish. The retailer doesn't have to give you refund because you feel like it. Most larger retailers do this a gesture of goodwill, they're certainly not required to do this under law. If the product is not fit for purpose or faulty then the consumer should expect to get it repaired, replaced or refunded

If you actually read their return policy instead beating your chest you would have seen that it's quite clear and fair for clearance items:

      http://www.ht.com.au/itype/purchasing/article/returns_policy…

      • Hey Blinkybill,

I don't need to read ht's returns policy because it only states policies that are convienient to them.

You should read the ACCC's policy. This is the only one worth reading in Australia as its the LAW.

You'll be amazed after reading this document, to find out what your rights as a consumer are.

this is a quote directly from the ACCC's booklet 'Warranties and refunds—a guide for consumers and business '

"Because each sale is a contract between the buyer and the seller, consumers are entitled to insist that the seller provide them with a remedy, even if a problem is due to a manufacturer’s fault."

        http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/tag/warrantiesand…

I'm not picking a fight with you - I'm just saying that sellers are required by law to do a lot more for consumers than they would like us/you to know.

        ( I learned all this from an Ozbargain forum - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14498 )

        • I just read that document, and what you wrote is most definitely not what the ACCC document says. It says you're entitled to a remedy ONLY IF certain things occur, which, (albeit grossly simplified) basically is when there's something wrong with it. So you can get HT to give you a refund if your laptop doesn't turn on straight out of the box for example. But this is common sense. When a shop sells you broken stuff, they can't just say to you, "too bad, I'm keeping the money" .

  • Great deal, low stock but worth a +ve

  • oh man what a deal… I wish I checked ozbargain this morning when they had stock!!

    • wow jtu100, you've sure put in some work on this. Great job!

  • -6

I'm no maths genius, but if you have to buy some overpriced junk to get a nominal 60% off the main item, then it ain't no 60% off overall.
So maybe its a good deal, but the headline is a lie, and I'll vote negative on principal. (its +44 as I write, so I ain't got Buckley's of shifting it off the front page :-)
Even a bargain-hunting Scrooge can afford a little bit of principal. No offence to the poster intended, if he isn't affiliated to Woolworths.

Sony does a nice up-market netbook, but I don't think it will appeal to the average ozbargain subscriber :-)

    • +2

      Um, this doesn't make sense.

      Store A sells a $10,000 notebook for 20% off.
Store B sells the same $10,000 notebook for 60% off, the catch is you have to buy another item worth $100.

Are you going to go with Store A on principle?

Besides, 1) the headline says "up to" 60% off, 2) it may be overpriced originally, but not now

    • +1

Thats right. you are no maths genius! Its rare the you see laptops being discounted even if they are runout models.

I made a saving of $1962.10 (inc $99.90 on accessories) on HT's normal selling price and if i factored in the RRP, then I saved $2672.10. No other store (searching on staticice) came close to these savings.

So Maths genius, you are telling me I didn't save any money?

      • He didn't say you're not saving money, he said you're not saving 60%…

        • it does clearly say UP TO 60%….granted that none were 60% off…who really cares

  • +1

I'd gladly spend $100 (cheapest item being $49.95) to get up to $2000 off a laptop
If you don't want the items put them up for sale elsewhere.

  • +1

My HP got delivered this morning !!!! Hows that for fast turn around.

  • its between 30% - 60% off if you like HP or Acer theres some left under a grand

    http://www.ht.com.au/part/V8676-HP-Compaq-Business-Notebook-…

Both of these have no CPU and no RAM and are still asking $1200! (before any discount) Check carefully…

    • There's no such thing as a notebook without a CPU and no RAM. If you find one sold by a respectable brand, by all means, buy it! I'm sure they'd be worth something, seeing as they're so rare…They must've missed these descriptions in the products.

      • Yeah more than likely when the product was captured in the inventory system they didn't enter CPU and RAM specs. The Web Page then pulls out the details and doesn't "find" CPU or RAM so lists the specs as No CPU No RAM

        • Possibly. The No Ram No CPU part was actually in the header for the products (not the body text) other components such as graphics chip were all detailed. Having said that, if mistakes like that are being made who's to say if a PC has 2Gb or 1Gb, etc. As stated, may be worth double checking with a phone call before spending.

They have changed the info on the main page/header but see the overview tab for what RAM and CPU info I saw previously:
          http://www.ht.com.au/part/W5153-HP-Compaq-Business-Notebook-…

          • @daydream: That's easy enough to answer. If the machine you got from them is not EXACTLY as specified in their advertising, you have grounds to return it. Their "NO RETURNS CLAIM" does not apply to cases like this.

            • @soupiejr: So if you get this one with no ram or cpu don't complain cause that's what it says on their page…

I ordered over the phone, order confirmed, invoice received. They then canceled the order saying no stock, saying an internet order has secured the laptop before the phone call. Crap service from HT, the rep - John Lo - later told me quote "it's not my problem". Oh well, you win some, you lose some, but I don't have high regards for HT customer service - I get that he can't fix the problem, but the snotty attitude should be left at home.

    • Baz123,

Why would you even publish the sales rep's name on this forum? This is not ACCC. If I had 100 calls from angry customers like you all day, of course i would have reacted like him. Just deal with it, such an offer would have been gone in seconds. Not need to complain to HT. Grow up and move on buddy!!

      • "Not need to complain to HT" there is a need to complain if the site shows an item as being still available and its not available in reality.

        • The majority of orders through the HT website are processed by an actual person. They check the order details & payment info etc for
correctness and fraud, then process it over to the Dispatch team who allocate them to jobs. This can take 5 mins or so. So when you've got
300 tight arses trying to order the same one or two cheap items, the only fair way of doing it is first off the printer.

As to your comment about the salesman, you don't get that sort of reaction without being a bit of a dick first.

          • @Headless Turkey: Like I said, I was polite, but the salesperson made it clear they couldn't be bothered with the whole process. I'm also not being rude to other bargain hunters, or tight arses as you like to call them and presumably yourself.

I'm very pleased for those people who scored a cheap laptop, I think the deals were excellent, and I understand that not everybody was going to score a cheap deal. But I rang - rather than order online - as I thought that the customer rep would be able to tell me accurately whether something was in stock or not. When you then receive an invoice and have a charge made to your credit card, I think it's fair to say that most people would be annoyed that they then have the order canceled. However I get all of that, but I'd have thought HT would like to improve their sales processing to help avoid the situation again in the future, and also would want their staff to at least pretend to care. Anyway, congrats to those that scored a good deal

          • @Headless Turkey: BTW Turkey, you seem to be remarkably familiar with HT ordering processes :)

  • JJH, I didn't call angrily - I expressed disappointment that HT had an ordering system that didn't reflect accurate stock levels. I'm not surprised the laptops sold out quickly, but customer service reps should still try being empathetic to customers, even if they've had a bad day. I'm not rude to people when I deal with them and expect the same courtesy in return.

  • Great deal got one for my brother and one for myself.

  • Terrific deal - got my hands on the last Vaio T17 in Sydney for a little over 2300 including a laser mouse and a backpack. The Sony website is listing it for 4999!!! That said, their site is always overpriced but it's still a terrific deal nonetheless. Quite pleased with this as my old Acer just croaked last week and this was just too good of a deal to resist. The guy at HT said he hasn't seen a sale of this kind in the last 2 years and that it worked really well. I'm guessing that means they don't have much stock left.

  • I rang today as my paypal was still on on pending and was told I had missed out . I asked what else was available and he told me whatever was on the website . I just laughed as the T500 was still on the website that I had ordered the day before and he said he would see what he could do . He rang back 15 minutes later to let me know someone had pulled out and that he had secured it for me :) . It's not their fault that those in management are totally incompetent and at least the rep i dealt with went the extra mile to help me out despite being very very busy no doubt . On another note I picked up a T400 (brand new condition refurb) for $742 AUS delivered from America . Bought it Late friday night was recieved this morning , Thats 3.5 working days , super impressed . There are plenty of bargain lappies out there at the moment .

    • troyww, what website did you use to get that laptop from America? We'd sure like to know if it's a bargain lappy site too. Share! :)

    • Probably better to buy a brand new T400 than the ones in that link. He says he's replaced some components in those lappies, so sounds to me like they were faulty to start with.

You can pick up brand new T400's with Lenovo warranty from other sellers there for as low as ~$830 delivered with decent specs (e.g. http://cgi.ebay.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T400-P8400-2-26GHz-80GB-…). Seems much more worth paying $830 for a new in box thinkpad than a used one for $730 and which looks like it's had a bit of a rough start. Keep in mind the lenovo warranty is global can be used even though you're not in America.

  • http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IBM-LENOVO-THINKPAD-T400-P8400-2GBRAM-160GB-WXGA-6CELL_W0QQitemZ150360869230QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_comp_laptop?hash=item230234c96e&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1|66%3A2|39%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

he still has a couple left . It's very bottom of the range with no bluetooth , fingerprint reader or camera but it does have the higher res screen and 6 cell battery . Almost seemed to good to be true but I checked some of his prior feedback and it all added up . It says no O.S. (operating system) but mine came with the Vista Business sticker on the bottom and I installed Vista with that key no worries , Took 2 hours to update .

    Guys,

If anyone in Sydney wants a Lenovo T500, I'm going to let one go. I bought one HP and one Lenovo and 2GB of extra RAM for the Lenovo too. $1300 for the Lenovo with the extra 2GB DDR3 RAM (so 4GB total). These units have 3 years warranty. The only thing I ask is I get to keep the two laser mice :). I just specced this at Lenovo.com.au and the spec comes around $3000.

    • How to contact you?

      • I'm contactable via ozbargain.com.au. Please wait until Wednesday as I'm holding the item for a work mate(he got in first!). There have been a few other enquiries from here, so first in on Wednesday gets it. A Sydney person who can pickup and pay cash is prefered. Original receipt from ht.com.au will be provided.

PS: Posting on my HP 8710p from HT!!!

yeah HT customer service very bad..
    i ordered 2 days ago lenovo+2backpacks about 1 grand.
n then yesterday was ready to be picked up.
and then today, they called me again, they said no stock.
    they are crazy or what?

    • Yup, it sucks. Did they charge your credit card?

      • I hope not!!

I know it must be hard to handle 300 angry customers. But if they went on with the promotion, they must be ready to deal with the consequence that comes if the promotion-gone-bad. They can't lure us into buying something and then push us away in an unpleasant manner. I mean, who wants to come back to an unpleasant store?

  • They don't charge you until you go and pick up the laptop. When I went to pick mine up the guy told me he needed the card because it hadn't been charged yet. I asked if he'd been getting a lot of angry calls and his reaction said it all - all unappreciative people thinking the world revolves around them and having a bitch and a moan at him because they couldn't get what they wanted.Granted, the system may be flawed but it's not the sales assistant's fault if the inventory system screws up.

I received excellent service throughout my entire experience, my laptop was ready to be picked up the day after but the Sydney store had run out of backpacks. The backpacks were predicted to arrive on Monday and I was fine with waiting until it arrived to pick everything up at once but it arrived a short while after I made it clear I was happy to wait but they still contacted me to say I could pick it up right away. Most workers, especially if they'd been dealing with angry customers all day would have just left it at that and let me come on Monday.

  • I ordered the Alum 13.3" macbook over the phone, paid with direct debit.. and my unit was shipped today! Mind you i called early at about 8:30am to order! Won't get to Sydney till Monday, got a tracking number too!

  • It seems only the people who didn't get a notebook got angry or rude sales assistants?

  • it seems to be impossible to get Mac and Thinkpad T500 now…

    • A bit late, 2 and a half days later.

  • I don't follow laptops cpus but which machine is the gruntiest?

  • Unfortunately the sales assistant notified me that the mac book is no longer available.

  • These notebooks are still available, according to the page:

  • I'd love to buy that M700 Portege, but it says it's only available at North Ryde (NSW) Business Centre. I'm from VIC. Anyone know if I can still buy it? Do they allow delivery between business centres? Picking it up at the VIC Business centre would be no problems for me…

  • Yeah, you can get it sent to VIC. I think delivery costs will probably be around $20-$30ish…good value still…
