What a joke today turned out to be! The server crashed on every single item, seems a little suspicious to me considering during the last Baitathon it didn't crash for me even once. What also draws my attention is the lack of COTD staff on this forum and other similar ones eg WP. I suspect they were aware of the issues that we saw today and hence avoided us. Just a thought.

What really frustrates me is my CC has been provisionally charged for a Wii ($253.95) yet I have not received confirmation of the purchase given the server crashed. So if you were in the same boat I suggest you keep an eye on your credit card statement for COTD purchases that have not been confirmed. If they have taken money out of my account then I expect a Wii to be delivered to me as it constitutes a contract. I'm definitely disappointed with COTD, they have gone backward since last time essentially back to the Birthday debacle.

For those who did manage to get what you were after congratulations.

Well did anyone ACTUALLY think that COTD would provide commercial grade facilities for today so things actually worked? Its COTD as usual, pathetic.

  • Well I did enjoy that big shout out to COTD I was there last year when they had the Birthday bash and they have improved heaps I was able to get quite a few items today including the wii & wii fit. U can't expect them top have the best server in the world there turnover wouldn't be that quick and the items sold out slower then i thought.

I'm happy with my outcome today was quite exciting

P.S wheres the SOS deal better not be early in the morning cause i'm in WA and that will be to early

    • They sold out slower probably as people lost them at the checkout stage, so they were still for sale to someone else, that doesn't make it good.

U just wernt quick enough I got into a quick routine had my cc details copied ready if u get past bite me u just had to be super fast cause u gota remember there are thousands of people trying to do the same thing. I don't think the reserve thing would work with that low of quantity and so many people trying. This way is first in and fastest gets the goods

        • +2

No there were time outs PAST "the biteme" stage.

          • @Zero Sydney: Yeah if ur too slow which I was with the ipod thats the one I wanted the most and stuffed it up prob lost 10 seconds which cost me

            • @herbie_ford: Sometimes things were there for minutes, its just that COTDs end never handled things well.

Stop blaming yourself and BLAME COTD.

            • @herbie_ford: Stop blaming the individuals and BLAME COTD for having inadequate facilities.

          • +2

            @Zero Sydney: Yeah.
It was fun going through the main page 4 times to get a $9.90 JAG shirt because I wanted to make sure I only got 1 and 1 only and not a dozen charges on my CC.

I guess I will be upgrading to ADSL2+ and using a fast desktop rather than ADSL1 and a wireless connection via a laptop.
If I spend $2000 on equipment, I may be able to save $100 on a Wii Console or $50 on a Wii Fit.

            • @Crownie: You never had to improve your end, COTD had to improve their end.

  • I do wish they kept up with this:
    http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/past_product_archive.php

I didn't see the Wii there, so I thought it was still coming later…. all done now though.

  • +2

I got charged nine times for trying to buy one item!

    • I am sorry that COTD charged you 8 (maybe 9) times extra (and I don't even know if you got the product).

And there are people here defending COTD, saying its the person that just was not being fast enough, when in fact COTD are pathetic. For example: "U just wernt quick enough I got into a quick routine had my cc details copied ready if u get past bite me u just had to be super fast".

People lost purchases AFTER the bite me screen as COTD servers failed to work correctly, and people here STILL claimed it was the person not COTD when the problem was ALL at COTD end/control.

PEOPLE HERE NEED TO STOP DEFENDING COTD when COTD was wrong not the individual.

Makes those people's comments seem a bit ridiculous now. They blamed the person NOT COTD.

COTD IS PATHETIC AND STILL NEEDS TO IMPROVE, not matter what QQQ claims.

      • AND YOU NEED TO STOP COMPLAINING!!!!! ok, we all know that you don't like COTD. MOVE ON!

        • -2

Well if people stop making up things which aren't true (like blaming end users instead of COTD) then maybe I wouldn't complain (or have anything to complain about).

          • @Zero Sydney: yeah, right…you will find another reason to complain about…

            • -2

@dansor: Well don't tell me to stop complaining about something that didn't work at COTDs end and under their control; its not a end user problem.

      • @Zero Sydney — you certainly have an axe to grind with CoTD. I am pretty sure you have already made your point here, and any more comment is just unhelpful.

        • -3

Yes your the owner/creator of this site but that doesn't mean that COTD doesn't deserve critism when a page wont even load (not even the server "under stress" message).
So blaming potential customers by stating its their fault that the COTD couldn't process their order (that's even if they got that far) and saying how great COTD handled it is being even handed and fair? Its no use congrudataling COTD when they didn't handle it well at all and some people here think it went great and that COTD wasn't to blame. I find people here blaming end users is just wrong.

          • +1

@Zero Sydney: Let the individual people who had issues with COTD deal with COTD directly, and let them decide if they are satisfied with their resolution (or not). You don't speak for everyone here. While you're entitled to your opinion through your dealings with them, repeating them over and over again (especially replying the same argument to various user comments) is starting to become a hindrance.

Now if only we could filter out specific user comments, I would definitely filter yours to rid of the clutter you're creating on CoTD posts.

  • got my keyboard today XD

  • hey guys,

i got the wii fit but according to COTD it says it hasnt even been dispatched. Has anyone of you had the same problem?

    • It's good that you got it quickly.

The late (non existant dispatch notice should happen now as QQQ states that:
      From http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14232
      "QQQ - CatchOfTheDay on 04/07/2009 - 21:24 ¶
Firstly I’d also like to thank you for your comments, and speaking your mind.
I’m going to try and summarise issues you’ve raised in the list below:

3 - One one or multiple occasions, the dispatch email was sent after delivery

3 - Another apology. For several batches of parcels, one of the packing team leaders in training did not tick of all his boxes and sent the dispatch notice late. This is now automated and shouldn’t happen in future.
      …"

    • That was quick. Where are you located? Mine is still in the processing stage (not dispatched).

  • haha… maybe i should have clarified… I 'caught' the wii fit but it hasnt arrived yet.. my other stuff has arrived (the DLO iphone holder thingy) and it even says that the desktop wave pro I have ordered says that it is on its way. However the wii fit didnt say it was dispatched… all good now. Just got the email today. should be here soon… cant wait till i can see my toes again :D

    • Same here. Received the dispatch email for Wii Fit and IPod only today while have already received the JAG shirt.
