    hereeee we go againnnnnnn!

    lol!

  • -2

    FAIL

  • -3

Even with their stupid disclaimer I give this a -ve purely for the fact that they are knowingly going to have a system that can't handle the load. I sense another barrage of disgruntled buyers posting on here about this time next Wednesday.

    • -1

      Worked fine last time.

      • +3

If that's the case why do they need to put the "servers are likely to crash" disclaimer?

        • Hmm, good point…didn't see that! :)

        • Lots of humourless people here - think it might have been a JOKE!?

        • +1

Because they pissed half the internet nation off when they crashed the first time.

Fact remains, "They worked fine last time".

          • @[Deactivated]: "here we go again!"
yeah last time's load was good, but no matter, most popular items were sold out in 53 seconds of being advertised.

    • +1

-ve not warranted…they are advertising how many units are available plus they seem to have now fixed their system.

    • +3

They had that disclaimer last time as well. I still managed to pickup a hell cheap Tom Tom during that sale. Their servers are not perfect, but its certainly was an improvement over their first big sale.

  • +3

were you even around when they last had the Wii on special in limited qty? Among other big sales? Their system handles it a LOT better now.

  • +5

Least your being honest with unit numbers this time.
Still bitter over last time you scamming pricks.

    • +1

They're not scamming anyone, not the first time and not now. It wasn't handled properly initially but they've since taken the feedback on board and are being as honest as they can. If airline websites can crash which have undoubtedly far better resources than I don't understand why people get so angry at COTD.

If your local electronics store did the same thing and there were thousand of people lining up before hand would you be also be mad you missed out? Or would you simply say "well fair enough, there were thousands of people queued up, there was no chance".

      • buying online and buying offline are completely different.

dont offer a sale and build hype when you know that your servers cant handle it. That's just misleading and a waste of people's time, plus people might've passed up good bargains to wait for their first "sale"

  • +5

I had no issue picking up a wii last time they did them for $299 no reloads required, but it is a valid point.
But the same can be said for webjet, qantas, virgin, Ticketek ect…

  • +2

Even with all the problems we had with these events in the past, I must admit I do enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the chance at getting a good deal and checking in every hour waiting for the good items to be posted.

  • can u order as many of one item as you want?

    • Usually not.

      • so just one each?

        • +3

well if you are really lucky then maybe one, but you need a lot of luck

  • just for the record the Wii I got last time was the Wii sports pack

    • Every Wii has Wii Sports, if that's what you mean?

      • yeah, I was just expecting just the console at this price I didnt know it came with a game, reminds me when I found out my sega mastersystem had a hidden game inside..

        • +1

Alex Kidd in Miracle World… and I still play it, sadly. :(

  • +1

How ironic that they call it a BAITathon.

  • Not again? Surely not??

    • Step aside and allow those with recently reconstructed arteries to get the deals :D

  • seems like a good deal, just not sure i want to try it with all the past experiences
    hmm tempting

  • -1

Does Wii Fit include the game?

    • Yes. Wii Fit is the name of the game and the hardware is called the Wii Balance Board. They're only sold together.

  • At least they named it properly this time, the baitathon, where the customer gets baited and then there is no stock left and the site goes down.

  • So how does this work? Do you need to checkout each item every hour? what about the combined shipping?

    • Yep, buy the item every hour. I don't think you can combine shipping…if you try for combine shipping, you'll probably miss out on the item

  • +1

i dont mind that there are people still bitter… more chance for the rest of us.

  • I'll be there, waiting. I want the Wii obviously, but I wont get my hopes up :-(

  • does anyone know if they are new or refurbished?

    • if you're talking about the Wii, then 'new' if every other time they've sold a wii is a good guide.

  • Ahahhaaha

it has the Fe-3010 camera for $99.
Piece of CRAP, no one get it.

    • +1

Not even for $99, I was looking for a sub $100 camera for 'throw' away events. So if it ever got damaged or lost it wouldn't be that much of a loss.

      • Throw away is right.
        It takes TERRIBLE pictures.

  • -7

pfft it's all being sold at once, the servers are going to crash. i'm not even going to bother.

  • Are all items on sale at the same time or change every hour or something? I want to grab they keyboard/mouse.

    • +1

      One item each hour.

  • Want the HP wireless desktop tho

    • Me too.

  • +2

Good offer I believe COTD has learnt from last time they have mad changes and last sale the servers didn't crash. And quantity isnt to bad its no diffrent to aldi selling the $999 TV's only had a few sold out quick but got people in the store I'm sure that day each store had heap more sales thanx to it. Its cheap effective marketing and now with the feedback they got last time they will do it better as they seem to have done.

Hopefully QQQ will come and give us hints of whats coming up next during the day ;)

    • +3

if you want hints check their twitter feed… last baitathon they would let ppl know the item 5 mins before hand on twitter so you could decide if you wanted to play refresh wars with your web browser on the hour…

also check the relevant thread on whingepool when posted… some of the "speculators" there seem to be close to spot on with schedule ;)

      • Whingepool ahahahaha!
My time thanks you for the advice :)

  • +1

I don't think all the hate is warranted. There are a lot of assumptions being made. It is clearly stated how many pieces there are, and they warn the the site may go down. As said previously you can expect the same from huge sites like Ticketmaster as well.

I have had nothing but good experiences with COTD, I think people need to move on and give them a chance. Last baitathon my net was shaped and I still managed to get some great bargains.

    • dont build hype and promise bargains if you think your server isnt going to handle it…

free marketing with minimal loss in profits since no one will be able to buy anything. Excellent

      • +1

They could not be any more honest about the conditions buyers will be facing on the day, so I don't know what you want from them.

        • it'd be nice if they could do it so either

          1. the servers can handle it
          2. its not a blind, mad rush of people
          • +1

            @walugi:

            1. The servers handled it last time

            2. I don't see how a rush of people is there fault.

      • i think the problem is that people are cheap. if you had a shop and you advertised a wii for $250, to be sold at such a date and hour, and there are only 100 of them, there's no doubt that even if your shop is supermarket size there'd still be a mad squeeze by then. So even if you spent all the money you had buying more space, you;d still be unable to satisfy everyone.

  • Some people here are such sore losers. They can't handle that they missed out on the last baitathon that they come on here complaining.

    • +1

      er …

missed out and not having a chance to even click on the item is 2 different things!

people from the last scam couldn't even get on the site, i wouldn't call that missed out lol!

      MORE LIKE A SCAM!

      • They've had another event since the one you're taking about.

They proved that they have done everything in their power to be completely honest- and the server handled the load.

Take or leave it, but move along if you're not interested. More chance for me.

    • Agreed samfisher

  • hey, if they want to vote -ve go for it, the more that dont come to the sale the more chance we'll get a good bargain :)
I'd put $$ on some of the naysayers still showing up to COTD for this…

    • -3

Yep, I'll turn up just to watch the servers crash and then wait for all the complaints about it to start rolling in to Ozbagain. No doubt when they offer rubbish like the "deal or no deal" game things will be fine as who in their right mind would even want that crap…no wonder they have 3000 to dump. It will be a different story when the Wii or ipods come up as that's what all you "believers" are no doubt waiting for.

      • I guess server crashing is better than 1000 people running thru a door and hurting themselves in the process…
        remember the good old 90s?

      • you'll still be there trying to get something

        • As I said I will have a look to watch the servers crash but my time is worth far more to me than to watse hours for a particular product to come up and then battle constant time outs etc. As for the Wii there have been bundles lately that offer comparable value post on here.

          • @elguapo: except you'll be causing the timeouts by wasting bandwidth. if you're not going to be buy anything then free slots up for the others who will.

  • Will I be able to log in and buy the items from my iphone , I want to get the Wii and HP wireless.

    • It would work, but items like the Wii are going to sell out in mere minutes. The extra time it takes to load pages on the iPhone, plus inputting your details may mean people beat you to it.

  • Ok I won't use my iPhone, I have Telstra Cable Extreme at home, so my internet is the fastest in Australia compared to non Bigpond customers so I think I have a good chance of getting all the items on sale before other people. Cheers.

    • +2

haHA, not sure if you're serious or not. But the target server will be the limiting factor in any connection you'll be trying to make. So it doesn't matter if your download speed is the speed of light .. if the server is down you'll be as fast as someone on a 28k modem :)

    • +2

      LOL

do some research mate :) Even if you were getting the maximum speed offered by cable (30mbps), your webpages would load faster by less than a second.

Me on the other hand, i got dux at primary school for word processing. With my typing speed, I think i have a good chance of getting all the items on sale before other people. Cheers

    • +1

mate i have cable extreme too… with current zdnet au speedtest reading of 23245kbps… and even i missed out on shit in their last baitathon and before that their birthday sale… BP extreme will only help so much..

  • I laugh at the people that complain about not being able to access the site during these kind of popular deals. What do you expect when demand exceeds supply?! What there are around 50 replies just in this thread, so would you imagine that 1,000's of people would be trying to access/purchase an item with only 100 unit available.

    Math 101 …

Like when OS 3 came out for the iPhone their servers were toast for many hours. Now that's a multi-billion dollar company?!

  • -6

    always negative for cotd!!

    • you guys are just unbelievable. i will definetely think twice from now on before posting a bargain on here…

      • Well if its a posting of a "deal" for COTD, I'd think twice two, as the poster is sure to get some negatives due to their treatment of customers.

    • Sounds about right with their reputation.

      • lol here we go again…

        • Strange how your one and only post was for a COTD special and the majority of your comments are defending COTD. I'd say you are either a COTD employee or a COTD fanboi. Either way a little too biased to take any comment seriously.

  • Interested in the Wii Fit for sure.

  • Bought a iPod Nano for $140 off their last Baitathon. I had no problems with site crashes. Will be looking forward to this one to. Thanks.

  • +1

Really going to look forward to this wednesday. Going to try my best to get the Wii on CATCHOFTHEDAY!!

  • Bring it on. I super-up-graded my internet to SHDSL just for tommorrow. Hopefully that is not considered cheating. ;)

  • dead.

  • lol server fudged… anyone see what's up for sale?

  • +1

LOL can't get onto the site.

  • HP wireless keyboard and mouse - $9.95

  • damn… cant see anything… just saw the shampoo and then blurrrr

  • Our Servers are Currently Filled to Capacity
Please Try Again in a Few Minutes, or Subscribe Below

  • got one ;)

  • well, i managed to add one to my shopping cart, and then it overloaded trying to access paypal express checkout.

  • yeah i got one too - not needed, but i want to be able to say 'i bought something' for wasting a few minutes of every hour of my time today :P

    • I'm sure the people who atually wanted one but never got it will love that!

  • I still can't get on the site.

  • +1

haha the problem with these baitathons now than from last year is not the server overload, but the amount of people who now know about catchoftheday. since quantities are so low the chances of getting a smooth transaction with such high demand onboard is going to be very slim.

  • I refreshed at 12:00 and quickly added a HP wireless Keyboard and Mouse.
Checked out via credit card and managed to get one :-)

I think that the server meltdown is BS that comes from COTD's side.
When a deal gets sold out, they just lock the server down.

  • Got one :) Will make a good present for someone's bday. Not bad for $9.95!

  • Well if I can't catch a thing, then theres no room for positive.
