    Hmm, not in my account..

    • Also not in my account :-(

In mine, but does apple store allow you to pricematch? sometimes prices outside is more than $50 cheaper than them.

    • yes they do if its within reason.. its up to them to decide

    • iirc they will pricematch up to 10% off, which is usually the maximum most other retailers offer

      • That's good to hear Apple price matches. Wasn't sure they did

      • Any retailer is doing 10% off Macbook Air at the moment?

      • I've had bigger price matches (e.g. when big w had apple in-ear headphones for like $40 a while back, and when Myer was doing sales on Bose speakers over Boxing Day but was sold out in a lot of stores) but the other store needs to have stock and confirm on the phone.

    • +1

I believe the do but you will not get cheered and high fived when you walk out the store.

This is because our kind of people (they call us cheapskates ozbargainers) are the main reason all those geniuses are getting pay cut and earn less than Aldi checkout lady.

      http://goo.gl/RHH4OL

IMHO $50 is worth the 10 seconds of cheers and high five and help feed the lads and ladettes in blue…

      • +2

I wouldn't jump so fast to feel a bit guilty about pricematching.

"Australians have bought bought $27 billion worth of Apple products since 2002, but the company has paid only $193 million to the Australian Tax Office (ATO) - just 0.7 per cent of its turnover.

The newspaper estimates that around $9 billion in profit has been shifted offshore to minimise taxation."

        Source: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-03-06/tax-expert-explains-ho…

        So I say match ahead!

      • +1

Blaming price matching instead of the greedy company itself with a high profit margin (yes, Apple) is a bit steep. It would have at least made partially sense if their pay cut was limited to 10% as that's what their maximum price match limit is.

      • *sarcasm

  • Does Apple store sell any non Apple products? Thanks

    • only some accessories, like covers speakers etc

      • +1

I would say lots of accessories.

    • i think they do beats

      • +3

Apple has bought out beats (for $3 billion dollars or so).

A perfect match really, overpriced headphones to go with all their other overpriced stuff.

(Ooops, did I say that in an Apple Store post, might get negged away for that…. err…. nothing wrong with apple products, I actually have a few of them myself…)

I think Apple were more interested in the Beats music streaming service than their headphones though in making this acquisition. If they can become a serious contender against Spotify that is where they stand to make some serious money.

  • Funny, I dont see in in my card offers when i log in?

  • Got the offer, thanks OP.

  • Pity this is not for bank issues cards as I need to get a laptop for my mother-in-law. Also would have loved it if the deal lasted beyond October as there will be the new iWatch, iPhone and other hardware goodies.

  • I have Amex issue card but could not see it?

    • Not every card/cardholder gets it. 2 out of my 3 cards got this offer.

      • -3

i got it. may i ask how you know these stats

        • +2

2 out of my 3 cards got this offer.

    • not on mine, did you have cash back last year?

      • I had all the offers in the past. that is why I don't understand why nothing this time?

        • Gotta be random, none of my cards got the Optus offer last round and only one got the Telstra one while my missus' own card got the Optus one but not Telstra.

  • +2

Despite what the OP said, I think that online purchases should qualify, since the website is linked from the T&C's but I don't need to buy anything from Apple right this moment so can't really test that theory. Don't forget to stack with cashback! (e.g. ING paywave / Starthere, etc.)

    • Normally the other offers state you can purchase items online to qualify, but this doesn't in my t&cs Thats why I assume it will be Instore only

    • Can confirm - received and email about this offer and says "Spend $500 or more at the Apple Online Store or Apple Retail Store".

    • -1

Oops, just realised you can't use ING Paywave - must use Amex, LOL.

  • thanks op! going to buy a mbp this weekend so it's like you gave me $50!

    • +1

You can give me back the $50 :)

    • +4

split pay using two amex cards (if you have another) & get $100 back

    • Well that's the idea anyway + wait for Dick Smith/JB/whoever to have another 10% discount.

  • Is there any free AMEX card I can apply?

  • +9

confirmed to work with apple online store:

    Dear Cardmember,

Congratulations! You have completed all qualifying transactions on
    your
    registered Card ending in XXXXX.

    Yours sincerely,

  • Thanks OP, just what I need.

  • Thank you.

  • Damn, haven't got the offer :( I've had a similar offer before though ($10 for $50 spent) a while back from AMEX so maybe that's why I don't get it again.

  • Wonder if this includes apple refurbs.

    • why not? If it is from Apple store

  • Not available for me either. I did sign up and use a similar promo with Apple/Amex at the end of last year.

  • +3

Seems like Refurb 16Gb iPad Air @ $509 is best bang-for-buck when combined with Starthere cashback (1.8% at the founder level) and $50 amex statement credit.

    • Isnt target selling ipad air 16gb wifi for $557? Just price match at Apple store and pay by Amex to get it for $507?

      • $509 is the starting price for a refurb before cashback and statement credit. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

    • good pick. Always forget to check the refurb section.

  • FYI, I suspect that AmEx have no way to tell if your transaction was for a gift card or not as it just comes through as a 'transaction' from Apple.

I have bought gift cards from Vintage Cellars and got the $20 credit back and I would hope the same will go for Apple gift cards.

I don't have a AmEx issued card to test this though.

    • LOL good idea though. I'll try it next time if I get the offer.

  • Not sure if its previously been covered, although I just seen an advertisement on TV (Canberra) for Domayne that stipulates unto $400 in eftpos gift cards with the purchase of a Mac this weekend. This might be a better offer for those buying Macbook Pro opposed to a iPad.

  • I used my credit card to take advantage of the $50 credit to buy an iPad for a friend, who wants to claim TRS on it when he goes overseas, but the receipt has my name on it (from my credit card), can I go back to the store and ask them to take my name off it?

    • no need. because its under $1000

      • That information is not quite correct. In order to make a claim the person who purchased the item must be the person who makes the claim.

Here is the extract from the Customs Site "You should note that it is a legal requirement that the person who purchases the goods must be the person who makes the claim for a refund of GST."

        http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp

I tried to make a claim on behalf of someone else and it was denied as it was not my name on the receipt. If your name is not on the receipt you are fine though, however Apple put your name on the receipt.

I would go back to Apple and see if they can change the name on the receipt to your friends name. If that does not work, I would still give it a try as it depends on how diligent your Customs agent is.

        • If the goods are below $1000 then I thought it was fine:

          http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp
What you need to do when buying goods

If you wish to claim a refund, you must get an original tax invoice from the store where you buy the goods. All stores registered for GST will be able to give you a tax invoice. A refund cannot be given without it.

A tax invoice prominently states the words 'tax invoice' and the Australian Business Number (ABN) of the retailer, the purchase price including the GST paid, a description of the goods, the name of the retailer and the date the purchase was made.

Tax invoices for purchases of $1000 or more must contain additional information, such as the name and address of the purchaser.

More information on tax invoices is available by contacting the Australian Taxation Office.

        • What you have stated is correct and items which are above $1000 must have the additional information. Items less than $1000 do not requite the additional information.

The issue is the Apple receipt has your name on it (even though it is under $1000), and so Customs can see that you are not the original purchaser. If Apple did not place your name on the receipt, you would be fine.

As mentioned, this happened to me when just after the iPad Air came out. Someone else paid for it (and it had there name on the receipt), but I took it out of the country for them. The refund was denied as I was not the person who purchased the item.

        • So I went back to the Apple Store and they said they couldn't take the name off the receipt because that's the name on my credit card. Any know if that really is the case or was the Apple 'Genius' just trying to fob me off because she didn't want to deal with it? (it was close to closing time)

        • return the item.

buy it again, by telling them the apple ID of your friend who is going overseas.

          easy job.

        • You will lose amex $50 statement credit if you return the item?

  • So angry that i missed out on this one.. I was heading overseas tooo ..so would have had a sweet deal…. Damn..

  • FWIW Myer is having another one of its $100 off Mac sales (online now, in store next week):
    http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/promotions/count-down-to…

  • desperately need this one. but it does not shown up in my amex offer page. i am using amex qantas discovery :(

anyone have a link outside the offer tab ?

  • Got the AMEX offer for Apple but could not find anything on the online store to buy.
