MSI X320 Netbook $835 @ Fluidtek (NSW)

40

Heyas,

Noticed this at Fluidtek for the weekend. Next closest price on StaticIce is $989 at Austin Computers (WA), about 15% cheaper!

Personally, I reckon it's pretty steep for a netbook, but if you're in the market for this particular model then it's a significant saving.

Fluidtek generally don't ship interstate, so this deal is only good for NSW, unless you can scam a price match somewhere.

  • Oh MY EYES! MY EYES!!

Do not look at directly at website with remaining eye.

  • Hi RandomNinja

You posted a comment on OzBargain a few weeks back..

    "Heyas,

So I’m in the market to buy a netbook for when I travel to Europe next month and I’ve pretty much decided to get an Asus eeePC 1000HE or 1005HA-P.

I’d like to get the 1005HA-P from the US as it will only cost me ~$560 delivered (brand new), whereas the 1000HE is ~$650 locally (if anyone can get a cheaper price in Syd, let me know please! And I know I missed the CotD special =[)."

Can i know the details.. im intending to get the 1005HA-P. What is the difference with the letter P anyways? and where did u get the laptop from in US?

    Thanks so much!

    • Yeah no probs, I can give you a quick summary below =)

The 1005HA series is the upcoming replacement model for the 1000HE range. Spec wise it's pretty much the same, apparently the HA-P can get 10.5hrs of battery life as opposed to the 9.5 from the HE. Cosmetically it's a bit different, loses the chiclet keys and two finger scrolling, but gains the slimmer seashell design and a better sized shift key. A quick google search will get you more detailed info if you need.

The HA range comes in HA-B, HA-V and HA-P, the P being the highest model and not widely available, limited to select partners (which seem to be mostly online retailers).

I went online to purchase, from an ebay seller called 'expcestore'. Worked out to be AU$572 delivered via international express, might be even cheaper now with the fx rate being better! Seller also has a separate online site called Exacibur PC, but buying through there was more expensive than their eBay listing at the time =/

The HA-P has a global warranty so you don't have to worry about that, but you will need to get yourself an AU figure 8 cable or a converter for the power pack.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and it's been awesome! Battery does seem to go on and on and on for regular surfing/email, but playing movies dropped the battery life to ~5-6 hours. It's pretty responsive as well, apps opening and closing quickly. No probs with loading up Zonealarm and Avira during bootup. Only negative point so far is that it's a fingerprint magnet, but it does come with a cloth for you to wipe them away.

  • Sweet!! Thanks so much for the quick summary RandomNinja!

I have the 1000HA(used less than 3 months) but i feel like selling it and getting the 1005HA-P! haha. Do you have any advise on that? I LOVE the part where it has 10.5hrs of batt life! but other than that i think its pretty much the same right? Oh not to mention the latest N280 chipset and also the wireless N :)

So they deliver right to you for just AU$572? How long did you have to wait for? Did you use the express delivery or the normal one? Did you upgrade it to 2Gb? Or were you running with 1Gb while opening the apps and stuff? Also, they dont seem to have the white one available on ebay. Do you know where abouts their available?

    Thanks again :D

    • Hmm, unless you need the battery life, I would just stick to the 1000HA. The N280 cpu isn't significantly faster than the N270 and wireless N is prolly overkill in a netbook anyway. The 1000HA will still be a good unit for the next year or two and by then I'm sure there will be much better options available!

I took the express delivery option and it got to me within a week. The price will vary depending on the exchange rate so you may not get the exact same price I did. Either way, it'll be cheaper than what stores are asking for it locally (~$800)

I stuck to 1Gb and it seems fine, probably worthwhile to go to 2Gb if you plan on multitasking and watching movies. If you're tech savvy, you're better off heading over to MSY, buying a 2Gb SODIMM and installing it yourself, it'll work out much cheaper.

Not sure about the white one, I wanted a black one at the time, not realising the fingerprint issue.

  • Hey randomninja!

I managed to sell my 1000HA and got the 1005HA-P! I saw one in JB-HIFI and I couldnt stop thinking about it! haha. Got it from the exact same store as you did at ebay with the same price! hahhaa.. I am hoping it will come in a week's time?? got the express mail and everything. Do they give you a call when they deliver it to ur house? Or does it just land up in the post office and u gotta pick it up urself?

I tried to search for the white one but apparently the HA-P only comes in blue or black! DARN!! i wanted the best of its line so I guess i dont have a choice.. got a black one. Thank you soo much for your advice! Also, when installing the 2GB RAM, do you have to go into bios like the 1000HA just to reconfirm that its 2GB before it starts displaying it in the my computer -> properties?

also, is the screen of the HA-P matte or glossy?? please tell me its matte!!
