Hasn't changed on the Qantas website:
    http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/memberSpecials/bankwest-…

Still shows that the offer expires 31st May 2014.

Anyways, thanks for posting the deal OP

Do I still qualify if I have a Children Savings account?

  • +2

from the small print "The Qantas Points offer is subject to change. Offer ends 18 July 2014"

    but from Qantas link "A bonus 10,000 Qantas Points^ until 31 May 2014 "

  • +3

Disappointed that this isn't open to existing customers, even at a lower bonus of 5000 points or something.

    • +2

Once you are with us, we are no longer in business deal. That should be their strategy. I hardly found business that was keeping existing customers with great deals.

    • +2

Really? I was so going to sign up for it. Can I close all my accounts in Bankwest and open a new one then?

  • +2

saw this before and couldn't be bothered then to open a new account and do the 3 monthly minimum transfers in/out. But i did it in the end as i guess it's not too much hassle and 10,000 point is worth maybe $70 or so at a min.. time to close my anz account though now that i've collected my $100. wouldn't want to get caught out by monthly fees for not doing the min. transfer.

  • Can you take out the $2000 after depositing it?

    • +2

      yes

      • And is there a specific cutoff date for when they want to see the 2k deposited? Or is it just every month from the date of opening?

        • you'll need to check the terms and conditions, it might be by the last business day rather than last calendar day of the month. but choose a day in the middle of the month, say the 10th and you should be ok. i just set up an automatic transfer from my main bank account, then from your new bankwest account, set up an automatic transfer for the following day. you should be able to set it to recur monthly. then you can set and forget until you get your points.

  • +2

Can I transfer $2000 from my account with other bank and transfer back every month to avoid the monthly fee?

    • +1

      Of course.

Jumped on the this when it first came out…

First card worked OK (Account holder)

Second card wad a PITA. (Authorised person)

    1. Couldnt set PIN or Activate card on the online Banking. Every time SMS was sent, secret questions were reset over and over (of course they ask you to do it 100 times while they try to fix it). Not sure if fixed.

    2. Didn't activate card. Because of issue one, I visited branch and asked them to activate the card. Transactions were declining. When called, they advised me that branch had not activated card.

    3. Unknown Declining. After I had a PIN and the card was activated, the card still randomly declined (depending on POS system).

Number 1 probably isn't sorted (I'm not going to try)
    Number 2 fixed.
Number 3 fixed by sending EVERYONE with a Bankwest/Qantas card a brand new one.

I requested $200 compensation for my time. They gave me $20 :-(
    I suppose its 8 free Eneloops :p

Funny you should say this - we also had endless hassles setting up a supplementary card (on credit card though, not this one) to the point where just gave up on it in the end.

      • Was it the Qantas CC? Apparently that was affected also.

  • I'd love to hear if a current customer managed to squeeze bankwest for any bonus/freebie… I havent been able to get anything as an existing customer (6+ years).. not even an annual fee waived.

Thats my only complaint of Bankwest - no love for existing customers.

    • My post above… I got $20 lol

  • Anyone know if it needs to be a 2k deposit from an external bank account or is it ok within ING?

    • +2

      You mean within bank west?

      • My apologies. Yes, can you do a internal bankwest transfer?

        • but does it give you 10k point though? new customer Only. unless you are planning to "park" the money there just for 0.4 QFF point per a whole amount of 100$ every day.

  • The account is also free from any monthly maintenance fees if you deposit at least $2,000 each month (e.g. salary).

Remember to keep depositing/withdrawing even after the 3 months if you haven't received your points by then. Otherwise you'll be stung by maintenance fees.

  • Is there any reason to choose Platinum over normal Debit Mastercard?

    • you can read the difference on their website ..

plant card requires 4k deposit monthly. extra warranty on good purchased with card.
normal card requires 2k deposit monthly.

      both earns points.

  • Daily limit transfer out is $1500 so a bit of a pain.

    • you can change it really easily in online banking, they send you an SMS to confirm and done in 10 seconds.

BE VERY CARFUL WITH THIS DEAL! I opended an account last month, spend over $7000 & got only 500 points! You only get points on the number of transactions not the value of the transactions like most other card providers. If you want an everyday transaction account where you earn points, teh Qantas cash card is a much better deal!

    • The terms clearly state it is 5 points per transaction.

Only use this if your total is < $5.

  • +1

anyone receive their FF points yet?
Ive had account for 5 months now i think

    • WOW … should i even bother then for $70 worth of points

    • I opened the account in April, still no points yet…

    • No points as yet. But its not 5 months yet.. I setup auto transfers to and from the account each month so dont notice it while i wait..
I'll give it 6months total then call them.

      • Should only be 3 months, not 5.

  • I just checked my Qantas account and I got it! Account was opened on April. Did someone mention in the past that it costs $5 to close the account?

    • got mine too.

yes they did.. i think also mentioned if u go to branch its free?? or could be hallucinating

  • Ok I got my 10,000 points today! Now, like most of you, Id like to find out how to close this account for free!!

    • Free only in branch. I will deposit $2000 in the month that I close it just to be sure they dont charge me for that month's account keeping fee.

  • Received mine too! Time to close ^_^

  • I have mine also!
    Now to close the account!
Free QFF points give $2000 deposits for 1 day a month x3
    Good interest keeps customers.
    This has not the latter.

    • FYI closed account, over the phone, with zero balance and i'm not charged the $10 to close.
      Can't get blood from stone.

      • Yup. Confirmed that I closed my account over the phone for free too tonight. I had 0 balance and the lady did not mention any fee for closing the account over the phone and when I asked her about any closing fee, she said no, it was free. Not sure if it was free because my account had 0 balance like ozy though.

  • For the people who received their points, did you all keep the account in/out $2k for at least 3 months? or less?

I opened my account in late May, but went overseas for a while, got back recently so I've just started the in/out of $2k this month… think I need to wait a bit from the looks of it ;-/

    • I opened the account and put 2k in that day.
And took it out the next day.
Then every 30 days i put in another 2k, still withdrawing the next day, thus avoiding fees.
The day i had QFF points appear in my QFF account, is the same day i closed my account and posted above.

  • Account closed at a branch and no fees. Thanks for the 10k points BW !

  • still haven't received my points, first deposit was in June.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm that you will lose the 10,000 points if you close the account within 12 months?

  • Good bye and good riddance to BW. Got my 10k and went to close my account at a branch and got the 3rd degree. My reasons for closing the account were:-
    - I did not like their online banking
    - I had trouble paying bills online (it did not recognize some biller codes)
    - Statements were 3 monthly
    - Monthly fee of $5
    - Poor Branch network - closed branch close to me
Added to this was the subsequent poor customer service at the branch where I went to close the account. I waited 15 minutes to get served when there were 2 cashiers with 1 customer at each. They were the only customers in front of me. And there was a lazy ponce in the office doing nothing. He then came out and took over the cancellation from the cashier and gave me the 3rd degree. He kept saying "Yes but what is the REAL reason that you are closing the account?" He kept arguing against my reasons and saying "what is the REAL reason?"
I ended up by saying "Look I tried it and I didn't like it and I am closing the account. That's it!"
The truth is that if the account had been outstanding, I may have considered keeping it. BUT NOW - NO GUILT. Good riddance to BW.

  • anyone else received their points yet?

    • Yup. A whole bunch of people received it for this month. They seem to put it in on the 5th of the month. If your first deposit was June though you'll have to wait until next month. My first deposit was May and i got it this month

      • thanks for the info.

        long time to wait.

        • I just called BW and was following up on my 10k points. They told me that I'm not eligible if I did not receive an email about their promotion. Had a long argument with the girl on why it was not stated at that time in their terms that anyone who did not receive an email about that said promotion is not eligible to get the points. Waste of time doing the $2k transfers for the past 3 months. I'll now go to the branch and close my account.
