Owned this tablet for more than six months now. Highly recommend it at this price point.

    • Any comparison to Asus Transformer Infinity? This has twice the RAM at 2GB, however the screen may not be quite as bright or colourful as the Infinity's Super IPS display. Would it be an upgrade?

      • +3

The 2GB RAM makes a huge difference.

The CPU is only dual core with HT (4 threads), but because it's a 32nm processor, it's more powerful and more energy efficient than the 40nm Tegra 3 on the Infinity.

Main con is the slightly low 3d performance — Nexus 7 2013 is slightly better.

  • +1

    Is this the model?

    http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_memo_pad_fhd10-5495.php

    If so.. $198 is cheap!

    • This one does not have 3g/LTE feature.

      • The one I linked to does either so I assume that is it.

        • does doesn't

        • The titls in your link says "Available as ASUS MeMO Pad FHD 10 ME302KL with 3G/LTE support"

        • What does it say on the line below that?

  • +3

    Must… resist…

  • Had a play with it tonight at Myer very good for the price.

    • mehbe you can suggest a better deal then..or even an equivalent deal; Myer is a pain to buy from for me, so I'm all ears.

      • It has no Apple on it nor is it made by Apple, and its all about the Apple so….meh!

Apple a day keeps Androids away.

        Oh BTW I love apples!

    • Abuse me more I like it!

  • +4

This is a much better buy than the recently posted Surface RT deal.

This is cheaper with much better specs. A full HD tablet with an Atom CPU for less than $200 should be an impulse buy for a lot of people.

Prepare for this to be ozbargained fast.

    • +3

I bought a surface RT and I loved it. So much so that I sold it and got a surface 2 (also RT). Still very tempted to get one of these even though I don't think android makes such a great tablet operating system.

      • -6

This thing is Android?!? No wonder it's so cheap. Thanks for pointing that out, I completely missed that it's an Android device with the specs it had being typical for full Windows tablets.

It has an x86 processor so it should be able to run full Windows but it doesn't look like it's easy (or possible) to install Windows.

"This is a much better buy than the recently posted Surface RT deal."
That is your opinion. Let me give you some reasons for why is surface rt deal better than this one.(i m not saying this is bad deal but its not much better than surface rt one)
      1. we get free touch keyboard with Surface.
      2. Intel processor on android have many issues.
      3. Surface is much more durable and kick stand is very nice feature.
      4. For casual use surface Rt is better. Internet explorer have flash player.(i know you can install flash player in android but it is no more officially supported).windows file explorer or desktop mode is loved by majority. And using that for reading pdfs and watching movies is better experience. And windows OS is much more secure.
      5. USB 2.0 slot. No usb otg is not required.
      6. you can attach your tablet to tv and get 2 screens for 2 separate purposes. e.g. movie and checking emails.

I know there are pros in this tablet too. Most obvious one being full HD.

The reason you think This deal is better is because its android. I Think you have not used Windows 8 rt.

Don't forget - MS office pre-installed. Like it or not, MS office apps are still pretty much 'industry standard'. MS office may be overpriced, and there are alternatives, but to have it included is definitely a bonus. IMO, the surface with Win rt is great for students or anyone who needs a robust and secure portable device for work or study. It's been great for my daughter's BYOD at high school and my other daughter is probably going to get one for Uni.

        • +1

I use it for my uni. And indeed ms office is really great pro i missed. My friends with ipads and android tablets were surprised by the office in my tablet. Its almost impossible to work on the alternatives for Ms office. I know it cuz i have nexus 7 II. And my friends on ipad think its similar experience to android.

        • Not to dismiss Microsoft office.
But I do think microsoft office will eventually be phased out.
Im not sure if you have introduced yourself to google drive. But you can create word processor documents, excel spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations all for free with a free cloud drive too.
You may not get a few features that microsoft office suite has, however google drive is free on all platforms with online accessibility from any computer. I just dont see the value in microsoft office anymore.

        • +2

That may be true for home users or small business owners, but I've seen a heck of a lot of nifty things that can be done in excel that big business rely on..

Google Docs by comparison, seems like microsoft notepad..

      • +1 RT
        Microsoft office too!

      • I have to disagree about the Windows OS security part. Can you please provide evidence to back this up stating that Android 4.3 is not as "secure" as Windows RT 8/8.1?

  • can anyone tell me how this compares with the onda V975m i was about to buy this after reading reviews
    then saw this post

    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Onda-V975M-Amlogic-M802-2-0GH…

    • You can go for the v975i which has a QC Bay Trail Z3735 CPU. It's much better (at least on paper) than this one and Onda is also releasing a Windows 8.1 OS for the v975i.

  • +1

@sparkyglo: on which page did you find that offer please? Can't find it in my catalogue.

    • +1

Hi, I picked up the catalogue in store, I could not find a link to it on the Myer website, no idea why this is. It isn't part of the stocktake catalogue >> it's a 4 page "tax time savings" brochure with tablet, laptop and Samsung camera offers.

  • This compared to an iPad ( I own an ipad 2nd generation)I know it's apple and oranges, but what aRe peoples opinion? I'm assuming from the comments that this tablet can hold it's ground well compared to many other tablets. Would
    I be right?

    • +3

what are you comparing it to? like which ipad?
find an ipad in the $199 range first and then do a comparison..

overall - if comparing to ipad 2 - then this kills it.
if comparing to an ipad air - then ipad air will be the better tablet - though the price might be more than double i think

      • +1

Thanks! Yep I'm comparing it to my iPad 2nd generation.
Yeh no doubt the new iPads would do better but also considering the price I'm thinking this holds good value.

I'm thinking is it possible to play flash on this? What pisses me off about apple is the no flash possibility, so many websites I go to and can't view stuff because of flash.

        • +6

Flash is no more — not officially supported by Android anymore, and you have to sideload it. However because the CPU is x86 and not ARM based, reportedly people couldn't get flash to work.

Most modern websites should now have dropped flash in favour of HTML5 anyway. If there are still sites that run on Flash for navigation and not HTML/CSS/Javascript, contact the person who designed it and whack him over the head with your iPad.

        • i use puffin to get flash on my ipad. u can also jailbreak :)

        • I have uc browser (free on google play) - great browser, plus automatically offers you to download flash plugin.

      • +2

Price trible as this is 32gb model

  • Does anybody know whether Harvey Norman will price match this? I am asking this because I want to use the Amex cashback.

  • Seriously good deal.

  • +1

Bought the FHD 10" for $199 used the gift cards from Amex Vintage Cellars and Target offers and scoopon Myer e gift cards. The price tag still $349 but the sales person said straight $199 when I asked if it was on clearance. WA Garden City has a few left according to the guy served me.

  • +1

Can't get flash working on mine though, able to get it on my other 4.x devices but not this one… Think its due to the Intel chip it uses…different instruction set… Nice and fast though.

  • +1

how is this tablet vs asus transformer pad tf300t?
    better resolution (fhd) 1920 x 1200 vs 1280 x 800 pixels
dual core vs quad core but 1.6 GHz vs 1.2 GHz
    camera: 5 MP, 2592 х 1944 pixels, autofocus vs 8 MP, 3264 x 2448 pixels
    hm…

    • +1

TF300T is ancient man. It has retained its value however because it was a well designed tablet, that supported a keyboard dock. Was also one of the best tabs in 2012.
But spec-wise, the internals are pretty old and would be fairly ordinary compared to tablets produced last year.

  • +4

    GPS
    microHDMI port = very useful
    1920 x 1200 resolution FHD IPS Display
    25Wh, 6760mAh Li-polymer "10 hour battery life"
Z2560 1.6 GHz Dual Core and 2 GB of internal memory

This thing look awesome for the $

  • Anyone know how many hours the fully charge battery can last? Say I play games non stop?

    • A review I read said 7 hours playing video, but games would be much less. Depends on the game though.

  • live miles from myer, like hours really, anyone know when i can get online for the cheap price, or a coupon code maybe…?

    • Just gonna have to wait and see if Myer makes this deal available online tomorrow or before whenever this "Tax Time Deals" offer ends.

  • +3

I wonder if its in-store only? Which would explain why its still $349 online.

  • +2

Only potential gotcha might be screen brightness?!?
    Maybe? Yes/no?
Some reviews are sayings its great others are calling it a problem (too dim). I think some reviewers are confusing the models.
    EDIT:
Ah shoot even Leonards original posting of this deal in the 7" MemoPad thread calls out screen brightness (dimness) as a problem. Spewing, that's a dealbreaker if its correct.
    Need decent brightness for travel.

    • It's plenty bright. Most times I have mine on auto and it's down around 1/4 to 1/3 bright. I haven't had a need to use it anything beyond 2/3 brightness.

      • Can you comment re in a train/ daytime?

  • +12

Feels so weird seeing Myer have bargains.

  • +3

    bah who needs FHD.

im enjoying my Memopad HD7 right now. bought two for $163. $81.50 each

  • +1

How does this compare to the memo pad hd7? The memo pad 7 is quad core and it's a bit sluggish. This tab only have dual core ?

    • +3

Core count is not all there is in a processor. Since tablets are using SOC's (system on a chip) you have to evaluate the entire package. The SOC comprises of the processor, cache, memory and a graphics co-processor. Think of it as a motherboard on the computer you're using right now, along with your CPU, RAM and graphics card — all squeezed into a single chip.

And this is what it looks like (simplified diagram)

More advanced SOC's would have more memory, faster RAM (e.g dual channel), and better graphics.

The memo pad 7 is quad core and it's a bit sluggish

That's because it's using a cheap-ass Mediatek MT8125 chipset. This one here is an Intel Atom clover trail SOC, which is much better than a budget MTK series.

  • +2

If flash isn't supported do YouTube videos and streaming videos on porn sites still work (serious question)

    • YouTube app……maybe

      • +7

He is more concerned about redtube.

    • YouTube dont need flash to work. It works on HTML. Same goes for most other sites. But unfortunately you have to specify which porn site you want to watch on it. I don't think you would want to say that.

But you can install android emulator for pc and open internet at check that site. But i am not sure if emulators can use internet.

    • Most websites nowadays have moved to HTML and its versions. Most porn websites and youtube have now either have HTML or use the native video player for streaming purposes. So, you won't have any problems i reckon. (Techie advice: Puffin browser and Dolphin Browser still can emulate flash if you really need them , but seriously you won't need it )

    • +1

yes, they work on an ipad and that doesn't have flash.

  • +1

What OS is this unit using? Windows or android?

    • +1

      android 4.2 but 4.3 upgradeable.

  • +3

I just bought Samsung note 8 on last deal . IPad mini from the goodguy with Amex. 2 Asus memo hd 7 from Harvey Norman. Now this deal coming. :(
I can not stop visit ozbargain .

    • Tablet addiction is quite common these days.

  • this contains some more links to reviews if anyones interested in finding out more : http://www.techspot.com/products/tablets/asus-memo-pad-fhd-1…

  • I can't find this anywhere. looks like I'll have to call.

shame on Intel making worst cpu for mobile device: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-600-vs-Intel-Ato…
otherwise it a good price tablet.

    • It's not the CPU but poorly optimized operating system. Intel atom are used to run windows 8.1 pro too. And some ppl are plying games like dots 2 on their tablet.

  • Must resist

  • would this be better than…
    http://www.wireless1.com.au/asus-eee-pad-64gb-wifi-black-ref…

I know the link I've put is for a windows tablet and that it's a little more expensive and refurb'd. Just wondering if the android based tablet will run better cause the operating system is lighter??

The only downside for me for an android tab is that youtube auto adjusts wifi quality of live internet streaming to crap levels while windows allow me to adjust the setting…

  • Just passed by Myer Melbourne CBD which was already open to my surprise. Can confirm that in store they scan to $199. I forgot my gift cards at home and they couldn't put one aside for me as it is part of the sale. He said that they have plenty in stock and I asked him the exact numbers and he said about 8-10. I told him that's not plenty on OZB community. Hurry up if you guys want to pick one up from Melbourne CBD store. I could have paid with credit card and refunded it and purchased with gift cards again but wanted to resist and see if the temptation wears off as I really wanted to buy a WiFi + 4g tablet.

    • +1

usually, at myers, they don't stock many non ipad tablets i find. So stocks are limited. You better act quick.

    • Just picked one up from that store and the guy said it was the last one.

  • Just got one from Myer Sydney city. The staff said there were a few left. When I was purchasing some one was ringing about if Myer Sydney city had stock.

There was also a clearance sign with the 199 price up

  • Bought the last one at highpoint. Sales guy thought I wanted the 7 inch coz that's the price.. But couldn't believe that they were $199.. Thanks OP

    • you must be the guy on the queue in front of my wife !!

  • Yep, they're flying out the door.
The on-line price has been entered incorrectly and will be fixed… probably after they're out of stock!

    • Did someone in store say it'll be fixed or is that just an assumption? Don't have to time to head in until the weekend but at this rate all the nearby ones will probably be sold out of them by then.

      • Confirmed with service centre.

        • Yup service centre confirmed that the price will be changed online but no timescale. Ask the service centre nicely and they will call a store and get them to hold one for you.

  • Just bought one, Doncaster Myer say they have 5 left in stock.

    • I believe I bought the last one from Doncaster around 9:30am

      • I bought at 10:46am and that's when I was told there were 5 more. But I was also told there was only black in stock, and when I opened mine it was white, so I'm not sure we can believe what we're being told!

        • That's odd. I was told mine was the last one, and the display one wasn't working as the charge cable has gone missing. Anyway, should make a call to confirm before you go

  • -3

    Does this have wi fi

    • +10

No, it comes with a 50m ethernet cable and USB adapter.

  • Excuse the noob question but how does this compare to the recently posted Samsung Galaxy Tab 2? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/149232) (I know nothing about tablets!)

    • +1

FHD vs 1280*800, IPS vs LCD, 2GB vs 1GB ram, atom 1.6ghz vs snapdragon 1.5ghz

      • +2

FHD vs 1280*800, IPS vs LCD, 2GB vs 1GB ram, atom 1.6ghz vs snapdragon 1.5ghz

Only the CDMA models used a Snapdragon and they were never available in Australia.

All models released in Australia use Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 SoC which is a dual-core Cortex-A9 running at 1GHz with a single-core PowerVR SGX540 GPU at 365MHz.

      • Thanks for the reply. I think I know what most of that means but here's another dumbo question: I currently have a Nexus 7 (2012) tablet - would this be around about the same for performance? (obviously it has a bigger screen but will it be much better otherwise?)
        thank you for your help!

        • +1

As with anything on clearance on ozbargain, you have to know instantly what it is and how much of a bargain it is.. I'd say you've probably missed the boat as a lot of places will be cleaned out by now.. you should have called myer at 9am and reserved your tablet hehe

        • +1

I did :) I just want to make sure its worth it to me.

        • +1

It's more of a size issue, as long as you don't find 10inches too big or unwieldy compared with your nexus. There sholdn't be any performance differences in real world usage eg browsing websites, watching hd videos reading documents and playing app games etc.

EDIT: in depth look at this tablet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJpy5I3wu3E

        • -1

          That's what she said…..

        • Actually I was finding the Nexus to be a bit too small, and since I carry around a handbag anyway 10" is no problem :) Thank you for the link, it sold me on the unit and I got one this afternoon.

  • If you had to choose between this Asus memopad or the Samsung galaxy Tab 2 10 inch, which one would you get?

    • +1

$200 for a full HD screen is a no brainer.. the samsung is 1200x800.. no thanks

      • I had both in my hand and I went with the samsung Galaxy :-(
