The Story (speculation on my behalf)

One could assume that there is a story behind this as I have seen this on eBay in other countries recently and my assumption is that it’s an effort to drive top line sales and bring the stock price back up due to eBay's challenges in 2014:

Ebay’s stock price was recently at a 52 week low at US$48.06 and has been on a consistent decline since 2014. There are several factors that have influenced this (not in order of impact):

  1. The recent security issue/alerts;
  2. Departure of some key executives;
  3. The infighting with investor Carl Icahn;
  4. Alibaba IPO around the corner with Alibaba posing a real threat to Ebay;
  5. Amazon consistent strength and expansion (they’ll be here next year!);
    (perhaps 4&5 should have Australian retail worried too!)
  6. Google Search algorithm changes resulting in lower rankings for ebay listings;
  7. Shut down of eBay Now - same day service;
  8. Some other undisclosed events (speculation).

Either way, I’m happy to support them this weekend and I’ll be buying up on Sunday !!!

The Instructions

  1. Proceed to Ebay Checkout Page: Checkout: Review order
  2. Enter coupon code in redemption code box (bottom right) and press apply
  3. Press Continue and pay with paypal
  4. Verify in the paypal screen/system that the discount was applied before you complete your order.

Hint: If you are buying multiple items then make sure the currencies of the items are the same because you will only get one shot at this coupon.

Please let us know what you are going to buy and share your bargains below please.

Will the professionals crash the site?

If you do the math then this is a potential $6 000 000 spend from eBay!

      • No.. $4.95 for $200 = $178.265 for $200 Eftpos

      Actually you can only use one Gifte gift card per transactions as per "Gifte cards are valid for 12 months and are available in multiple designs and values. Only one Gifte Gift Card can be redeemed per transaction."

      Therefore you would have to buy the eftpos card in $100 lots and be charged $4.95 each time. So it would be $183.215 for $200 eftpos. Works out roughly the same as buying the eftpos card directly from them on eBay.

      • oh…

        • +1

          Explain?

          You can only buy $100 universal Gifte cards off their website, and you can only use ONE universal Gifte card per transaction. Therefore if you were to buy a $200 eftpos card you can only apply one $100 Gifte card and the rest would need to be paid without using a gift card.

          If you buy two $100 eftpos cards, it charges you a $4.95 for EACH ONE.

        • got it now

        • may i aknow where does it say only one Gifte Gift Card can be redeemed per transaction?

          http://www.gifte.com.au/faq

          What is a Gifte Gift Card?

          Gifte Cards are the perfect gift for when you don't know what to choose! Take the decision making out of your purchase and give them the ultimate choice with a card that can be used to redeem any listed gift card product on gifte.com.au.

          Gifte Cards can be purchased as physical plastic cards and sent via post or as digital egift cards, delivered straight to their inbox.

          Gifte cards are valid for 12 months and are available in multiple designs and values. Only one Gifte Gift Card can be redeemed per transaction.

    • I read it that you buy this, then you have to then buy from the Gifte website using your card, is it an EFTPOS card?

    • Is it better to buy universal gift card or Eftpos one?
      Any thought?

      • Universal are slightly better still extra 1-2$ per 100$ But you may have to wait a while after receiving and redeeming them

      The seller Amino-Z looks to be the best value for the sellers.

    Remember that Inspiron deal that expired last week on the Dell site? Turns out it's still active on the eBay one, so that's another $100 off - not bad! I think that makes it the cheapest IPS lappy in Australia

  • Hi guys
    Very pressing question here..

    Going over to Shanghai in July and was wondering if I can buy the $100 visa gift cards and use it to buy the load&go travel cards from Australia Post?

    It's too late to sign up for the citibank plus account and other options so this is the best I can come up with to save some buck…

    Can anyone advise me on whether it's a good/bad idea?

    Thanks!!!!

    • Guess this is a hard question to answer..Don't want to risk it but at the same time…

  • Late to the party, does it need to be used on one item or can multiple sales be used to make up the minimum spend? Has to be $50 after the discount presumably?

    • No, has to be $50 or more (including postage) before discount.

    • Multiple sales can be used to make it up, as long as you add the items to your cart and then checkout in one go. I believe it's a maximum of 10 items you can pay for at once.

  • Is the 15% off targeted to all sellers from ebay.com.au? Cause the sellers in ops like has nothing higher than $100 visa gift cards. Im looking for $1000 card.

  • Thanks OP.Bought 4 EFTPOS and 2 VISA,Saved $97+ plus 2% cashrewards rebate

    • i think cashrewards excludes gift cards/gift certificate categories?

      • How do they know you purchased gift cards?

        just like how amex say gift cards are excluded yet u still get the cashback

        • Difference here, eBay has a gift card category, so they consider every item in that category a gift card and they won't pay cashrewards, so cashrewards won't pay you. You could get around it if the seller listed a gift card in another category, some sellers will do this so they don't have to pay a listing fee, pretty common to find iTunes gift cards in other categories.

  • Do you need to have separate ebay AND paypal accounts to reuse the discount code or is a new ebay account good enough? I messed up and didn't get the right thing

    • One ebay account one PayPal for one coupon. You can sign up a new PayPal account without having the same email as your ebay's. I did it with my accounts.

      • oh (sorry just to clarify) so you're saying you only need to sign up for a new Paypal account and not a new ebay account and it will work again?

        • +1

          What I did was to use another ebay account I have with a newly registered PayPal account both don't share the same email. I think u can give it a shot by checking out using a new PayPal account for the original ebay account.

        • It is the combination of eBay linked to your PayPal account. To claim the coupon again you need to have 2 eBay accounts and 2 PayPal accounts. Then there won't be any problem.

      • +1

        But can you get the PayPal account to verify you in a short period?

        • +1

          No, you only need to be active not verified. I pay my order with the new PayPal account using another credit card. Don't use the same credit cards for two different PayPal accounts as it won't allow you.

        • You don't need to verify the paypal account for it to work. Just create an account and you should be good to go. Worked for me a couple hours ago when I wanted to order under my wife's ebay account, but she didn't have a separate paypal to me.

        • You need to verify the payment method.

    • I think both ebay and PayPal account can only use the code one time.
      So if you buy with "A" ebay account and pay with "A" PayPal account, you can use the code to buy with "B" ebay account and pay with "A" PayPal account.

  • Need an SSD- are any on eBay decent value?

  • So 27" Dell IPS monitor for $245 good value.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Monitor-P2714H-27-27-inch-69…

    • Avoid this if you care about your eyes, had these at my work before, and it was so poor quality, almost went blind, luckily they upgraded us to the better 27" that Dell had.

      • On really? I bought the 24" instead during the special.

        • Yeah, image quality was weird, it wasn't so much about colours or anything, but not sure if you've ever plugged a recent monitor using VGA and noticed how crap it is, it's kind of like that, but they were using DVI anyways, it's just really poor form this line of monitors from Dell.

    Again.. They jack up EFTPOS gift card to $108.95.

    What a greed company.

    • Who is greedier? Foxtel or gifte?

    • not worth it any more

    • Jack up VISA TO $110.95 now

      • Clearly they can do it as they seem to be the only company selling gift cards on eBay.

        • Right,still better than ING Paywave 5% save and can be used online.

      • Visa giftcard removed by seller

  • Maybe they will reduce them to.

  • You can always buy from another seller…
