Does 1366x768 mean it is HD already? CMIIW

I know it's not full HD (1080) but this is very good price for standard HDTV …

Neg vote is a bit harsh

    • +2

The Negative is harsh, 1366 x 768 resolution is fine for a 32 inch TV.

$600 bucks is pretty cheap for a name brand.

        • IMO this would be better than something like conia because they could dissappear overnight or give you the run around on warranty claims.

At least the warranty dept of a big brand like this should know better even though they dont make the tv's themselves.
Resale value should also be helped if you decide to sell the tv.

    • Australian HDTV is either 1080 lines/interlaced, 720 lines/non-interlaced ("progressive scan"), or 576 lines/non-interlaced.
I understand that the networks have essentially decided to use the 720p format, as it offers the best resolution/refresh-rate compromise.
According to CNET Australia, and The truth about 1080p: We've done side-by-side tests between a 50-inch 720p HD TV and a 50-inch 1080p HD TV using the same 1080i source material, and it was extremely difficult for us to see any difference."
It seems that you'll only see a benefit with a Blue-Ray or similar 1080p source, and a large screen.
Having said that, I'm sure there are plenty of viewers out there who will be happy to argue an opposing case.
Bring it on - the more informed debate, the better informed we all are…

Agree 100%…. I couldn't tell the difference between 1080p and 720p from a distance of a couple of metres when comparing 40" LCD's (using a blu-ray as the input). You'd have to have some seriously good eyesight… or at least better than mine anyway!

For what it's worth, I did end up buying a 1080p screen, but that's only because the price was too good to resist! But I wouldn't hesitate to buy a normal HD screen if it was cheap. :)

Speaking of which… did anyone actually buy this screen and can comment on the quality?

        • +2

on a 32" screen, i agree, you'd be hard pressed to see any difference, however, on a 50" screen, with a 1080p source, if the TV is good enough, the difference between 720p and 1080p will be obvious if you had them side by side…

          • @jv: OK, but from how far away?…
            …3m?, 1m?, 30cm??
How large does the screen have to be for you to note the difference?…
            …26", 32", 42", 50", 60" ??
The discussion needs to be put in context.
Yes, of course there is a difference between 576 / 768 / 1080 lines of resolution - by definition there has to be.
But, as what point do you discern a difference in a real world situation?
jv has told us that he/she'd be able to pick the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 50" display, but not a 32".
I'm interested to hear from viewers,, at what screen size can you first see the improvement of a 1080p source/display over 720p from a normal viewing position (2m-3m?)??
I think the answer would be a valuable piece of information for all, as it would help put the HD v Full HD discussion in perspective.

I opted to go for a 50" samsung plasma for my gaming room rather than a 1080p 37 or 42" for the same, or higher price.

It's almost impossible to tell the difference between it and the 1080p 50" Panasonic we have. If you are being picky, you can tell the difference when watching 1080p movies, but only if you compare them side by side. It's not like you will be watching it on the 720p TV and be thinking "wow this looks like crap".

Not to mention, most PS3/XBOX360 games are rendered in 720p and upscaled to 1080p anyway. Only a few games will render at the full res.

$599 for a 1366 x 768 lcd is still a great price. Nice TV for the bedroom.

  • Yeah saw this in the latest DSE catalogue for $699 on the front page. Decent value, but not Full HD. I saw an Acer 32" LCD (same res) for $700 about 18mths ago, so i don't know why prices aren't dropping.
I think it was from Big W.

I just visited Indooroopilly QLD DSE - this TV is on the front page of their Catalogue for $699. He said maybe the $599 was a promo for a new store…
