Note the 900/2100 3G band. i.e. OPTUS only.

    • just wandering how to find out which company uses which band? i read that 3g only works in china

      • Basically Optus 900/2100 and Telstra/Voda 850/2100.

        • Actually Voda use 850/900/2100. Bear in mind that these frequencies are for 3G (WCDMA).

        • Yes but more optimized for 850.

        • Voda is primarily 850 and 2100, and it would not be a good idea to rely on 2100 by itself. 900 is for rural area only.

          http://support.vodafone.com.au/articles/FAQ/Network-coverage…

        • Not just for rural areas. Regional roaming onto Optus also uses 900 MHz.

If you have a look at the coverage maps, you'll see an enormous amount of non-metropolitan coverage is 900mhz only. Especially on regional highways and regional towns.

        • Yes, but if you are on Voda do you really want a phone without 850? Its not like they got fantastic coverage and the 850 will make little difference.

        • Wait you said 900 for rural areas only, but how about telstra on regaional? Going to head out onto esperance/ravensthorpe area, regional only telstra works there supposedly. what frequency phone do i need to get 3g (assume those regional areas have no 4G?).. as 900 is optus?

Edit: What Bandwith does 4G run on for say telstra vs optus vs voda etc?

  • can someone recommend an alternative phone with similar specs in this price bracket pls ?

      Moto G

      • cannot really compete with 2gb RAM + 5.5" screen + 3100mah battery (if phone is indeed genuine)

        • The screen is of the same resolution, and Moto G is reported to have excellent battery life in actual use. Ram is halved but its a branded device with solid ROM support, official and unofficial.

Just because you have not heard of the brand does not mean it's not branded.

Xiaomi is one of the biggest smartphone brands in China and occupies a larger share of the global smartphone market than Blackberry.

          Bloomberg for your reference:

    • ALDI have one coming out net week, worth a look

    • How about this for a chinaphone?

Otherwise MotoG if you want to go name brand.

    • Yes, Zenfone 5 2gb Ram 16GB Rom version. Not in AU yet but it probably will.

  • Get the moto G don't both with this. So many fakes out there as well.
I got one for 200 from Kogan when they had free delivery.

I'd be careful with some Chinese manufactured android phones. Reported some may come loaded with spyware, best to either re-flash the roms, or install anti-virus and spyware software if possible.

      old news…

  • I should have said - i've had a cubot one for over a year now (rooted and custom ROM) - has been excellent - except my kids just cracked the screen .. still working tho .. was looking for something that i could get on ebay tommorow with the 15% off - like the look of the MotoG apart from its still only 1GB mem like my cubot which is pretty full ideally 2GB ?

    • It sounds like you have memory and storage confused. Memory is what is used to run applications and Storage is used to store things like the apps, photos, videos etc.

  • yes i meant memory

  • nice phone.
however the 8Gb storage space is a deal breaker.

  • Hmm like the look of the zenfone cheers

  • Banggood sells the same model as pandawill. Seeing as Banggood seems to have a better rep than Pandawill, I have sent an enquiry to see whether they will be able to beat the price.

  • Pandawill…. it's the Chinese version of goodwill.
