        In your post, you said

Got one of these for $59 a few weeks back

So this is a saving of $1

  • Is this the older version?

    • sorry, i don't know whether this is the old version of current version. what's the difference, do you know?

    • +2

      older.
the newer is called "mini" not mobile

Definitely the older version as erwinsie has pointed out. The main difference is that the minis can be paired so you can have the same audio playing from 2 minis (for either a stereo effect or just louder sound) whereas the mobile ones are standalone and cannot be paired.

      • actual stereo??? ie, can you send left channel to left speaker and right channel to right?? Or just the same audio coming out of each paired speaker?

        • You could call it " dual stereo, or quad sound ", sort of :-) Also the mini has NFC for instant pairing.

      • thanks for the info.

    • I was tossing up between this and the newer mini version ($59 at TGG) - the mini is apparently softer (http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/10/01/ultimate-ears-mini-b…) and I have no need for pairing so I guess I'll go with this one - thanks!

      • Where in that review that says the Mini Boom is softer?

        • I guess got_rice mean this part of the review

"[sic] For such a small package, the MINI BOOM can also put out some volume. Naturally, it's not as loud as its big brother, but that's to be expected. Don't sell it short, however, for its size, it really can push some sound."

Not sure if that is truly a con.
Will look into it more before purchasing!

I bought one in store at Officeworks today - so I guess I owe OP a thanks. However, if I had properly read the androidpolice review I would have bought the newer Mini Boom at TGG for $59 since that unit has dual play with 2 speakers, NFC, a phone app with presets, battery level etc and is better "in every audible way" according to the review. I've sort-of Ozbargained myself.

Note that the quotation posted by CuteChocobo above is actually comparing the Mini Boom to the UE Mobile Boom (which is a much bigger speaker) - not to this Mobile Boombox.

Anyway - it is for the wife and she seems pretty impressed with it. Hopefully I have finally found a way for her to easily listen to her music (our collection is available on her phone on Plex) on a speaker that she likes the sound and the look of.

      • AFAIK theres only been 2 versions of this… the older model with the backlit controls on top and this one

  • Unavailable online. Looks like stores in Sydney have limited (no?) stock.

    • Saw it at Officeworks at glebe yesterday, there were three left.

  • Purchased one of these (mobile boombox)at ow west Gosford for $93.88 last week noticed it did have different packaging. I thought like others that it would work with miniboom. Sadly it didn't. I was able to return it. West Gosford had about 3 and ow Pitt st sydney (near park st) had about 4.
