  • Thanks for this TA, I'll now be able to see how treacherous some of the CISSP domains are, but at least I'll know what I'll be up against next year.

Did the CISSP a few years back, it's straight forward but long winded..

    Course Information Q&A.

Q1: What is the aim of this short course?

Answer: The aim of the short course is to give you a ‘taster’ of what it is like to undertake postgraduate study via Distance Education with Charles Sturt University.

    Q2: Who presented the Webinars?

Answer: These webinars were presented by our senior industry based Cisco Lecturer: Matt Constable. Matt’s experience and qualifications include:

14 years as a Network Engineer, Cyber Security analyst and Communications Engineer
Managed a team of Engineers who provided L3 support on a Network with 110 remote sites and 7000 users.
Designed, developed and delivered the Cisco certification subjects in the Master of Networking and Systems Administration at Charles Sturt University
Has a total of 6 academic qualification including a Master of Computer Security, a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology
Extensive experience as a sports coach and martial arts Instructor
Q3: Will the course qualify me for university credit?

Completion of the course will not qualify for credit but completing your Cisco CCNA certification will qualify you for credit into the Master of Networking and Systems Administration or Master of Management (IT) degrees at Charles Sturt University. To find out how much credit you would qualify for, fill out the Eligibility form at http://www.itmasters.edu.au/am-i-eligible/

Q4: Will the sessions be recorded, posted and accessible later if I was unable to attend a lecture?

Answer: Yes – the sessions will be recorded and you will be able to access them if you miss the live event.

Q5: Is there a final exam?

Yes – there will be a CCNA certification practice exam at the end of the course. The exam will be a timed, open book exam that you will sit at your computer. Please note that this test itself will not provide you with CCNA certification, but will help test your preparedness for the real thing.

  • Just a word of warning for anyone new to Cisco.

To be able to practice any of the content from Unit 3 onwards you basically need access to Virtual switches.

Not sure these days, but when I did my CCNA as part of my course, it was pretty tricky to get access without being a university/tafe/education provider.

Maybe the internet can offer it for free now though…

Can use gns3.net to simulate Cisco devices. Switch support is still a bit flakey, but can setup some virtual routers and connect to 2nd hand real cisco switches from ebay :)

      • +1

Also packet tracer (which is free rather than gns3)

  • +2

you can easily make your topology and practice on GNS3 with is Virtual Platform
    http://www.gns3.net/download/

You need to google up for getting the CISCO I.O.S Image or if you know anyone who has cisco Association Login ID they are able to download from Cisco for free

  • i had a look at one of the courses, the only interactive side is 1 "practise test" so you don't get graded on anything real, you just get to see the learning resources.
I tried out the one test and the servers couldn't load so I had to give up after a while.

  • There are more here,

I suppose you can only attempt online test and get certificates for the ones which are open. e.g. "Hacking Counter Measures" is closing today and "Program Management Professional" will be closing in 4 weeks time.

Still great material available even if you don't get the certificates.

  • Thanks!

  • Can anyone provide the course logon link?
I lost it yesterday after deleting the new account email

I would use browser history but don't have access to that PC at the moment

Telios, Incorrect!! You only need packettracer to study for ALL of CCNA!!! You will need other equipment/software if you are going to study higher than that. If someone is going to do a CCNA, minimum 6 months for study around 1 day per week. I do not recommended anything else other than Packettracer when studying for CCNA as using GNS3 or IOU will just complicate things, PacketTracer has everything you need.

Also a CCNA certification will not give you any credits in a university course from what I understand.

The new packettracer was updated recently which include OSPF area's and the switches are also updated supporting high availability.

Also the versions of the routers and switches in packettracer show the version as 15+ not 12.4 like in the older version.

I might look into doing the CISSP, it says you do get a certificate at the end. These courses would be good if you can get that because employers still will value it even if you do not have the certification, you have studied it, what is the difference???

I did an advanced diploma awhile ago and I got a certificate from cisco academy for CCNP Route & Switch, and a Tafe certificate saying I did CCNP Tshoot so I can still apply for jobs that say must have CCNP certification, because I think it is good enough having certificates that atleast say you have done the course work.

"Q5: Do I get a certificate if I complete the course?

Yes - Those who pass the exam during the official sitting period (Wednesday August 21 – Wednesday August 28) will receive a Certificate of Completion."

    Yeah that is good.
