Was looking for a down jacket. Is kathmandu a recommend brand to go with?
Yeah I think they are, Northface and Mountain Design are also pretty good to compare

I bought my down jacket from Macpac, they often have specials. Their coat was about $99 I think and I've worn mine in seriously cold places like the US and the Canadian Rockies, Niseko japan etc. if you get a Down coat I would recommend some type of breathable water resistant outer. Wet down in your coat is heavy, smelly and no fun to pack or lug around.
Otherwise if you can hang on for one of their regular 40% off sales, Sierra Trading Post is awesome. You'll get a Patagonia or a North Face jacket from the US.
There are regularly awesome deals on down coats from www.6pm.com but they dont ship to Oz, you would have to use a shipping forwarder.
I would also have a look on Amazon.com make sure to tick the 'amazonGlobal eligible' box on the left hand side of the page.
Another option is to have a search on the 'outdoor stuff' search engine www.spadout.com they will have loads of deals from a massive range of US shops but you might spend hours finding the one you like and working out if they ship to Oz etc.
I have loads of high end ski clothes and outdoor gear and I would endorse the above comments, Kathmandu always looks like a rip off to me. Has anybody ever bought anything from them that wasn't on sale? And even then most of their sale stuff isnt that cheap anyway. If you add 60% to a price then advertise it as 40% off it is still a rip!

The Kathmandu store I drive past always seems to have the words 'up to 60% off' permanently etched into their front window. I suppose you can do that when you make up your own RRPs.
