Won't you rather have this AC router + Modem instead.I believe i have seen this router go down to as low as $199 before.Right now it's $347 but it has been way cheaper before.

Save space not needed a standalone modem and this has the next gen AC wireless and NBN ready.

If i remember correctly it was Dicksmith that offered it for $199 once.

plus all the dongles you need to buy for every device you want to connect it to
this is also a standalone modem+router and its very good for downloading stuff

The AC units still do N anyway. Those are better for new phones/tablets/laptops/htpcs that people may or may not get over the next 12 months or whatever. I just built an htpc that has AC built into the MB, but I have no AC router.

There are reasons to get AC if you dont mind paying a bit more, or a lot in some cases.

Fantastic router, esp if you use the Merlin firmware. 100mb NBN is no problems with this router…though few of us will ever see that now. Worth checking other vendors on StaticIce though, as they are as low as $123 without shipping.

Not sure the AC Netgear is a worthy comparison at $347 or even $199, particularly if it's out of your budget.

    • i dont think merlin works on the n55u. its only for the standalone routers

      • My bad, I was thinking of the N66U. Cheers

  • Anyone comment on its wifi range. I have aTP link that everyone raves about as value for money, but Ive dealt with 3, 1 n600 mine, another the same n600 for a mate, and a cheaper n300 for my inlaws, all have weak wifi. The old routers worked fine in the same locations, same PCs/gizmos, the TP links all have intermittent connection issues.

Also if anyone would like to comment on that Netgear AC1600 at JB linked to above Id appreciate that too.

  • check this one out from PLE (W.A) if you happen to live near by (call first though) , cheaper by $21.89 .

    • If you cant collect yourself, I note you said that, add $10 for delivery too. So saving is only $11 or so. Its Ex Demo.

  • This router is FANTASTIC. I've been using it for IPTV and intense gaming (League of Legends), simple QoS settings makes life easy! btw, you can get it from MSY just slightly lower $124. http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf

    Cheers
